She's Here!

Well, the wait is over. Cassidy Anne was born on Jan. 13 at 1:23 p.m. She weighed 6 lbs. 5 oz. and was 19 1/2 inches long. We are all doing well and enjoying getting to know her. Nathan seems to love her, but also has some "adjusting" to do. She looks just like Nathan did when he was born so it will be interesting to see how she changes as she grows. God has truly blessed us with a wonderful family.

Hi, Aleisha. This is Melody (Williams) Banken. It has been a long time! I was doing a search trying to find friends on Facebook, and your name came up in the Google search bar. So, I created a profile so I could say hi. How are you guys doing? I see that you have a little boy and a baby girl soon to be born. I have two children. Isaak is 8 and Mariyah is 6. My Facebook page has several pictures of them. The link is http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?ref=profile&id=852614087 , if you get a chance to check it out. A quick summation of our life: Byron and I were youth pastors in Lufkin for three years, then moved to Louisiana to take a full-time position as youth pastor there, then two years ago we moved to Richmond, Texas to start a new church plant. So, that's about it in a nutshell. My email is melodyvonbanken@yahoo.com. Write me when you can. I would love to meet sometime. I look forward to hearing from you.

Fall update

Time for a quick update. (well probably past time, but I guess that's OK.)

A lot has happened since my last post. Nathan turned one on Oct. 16 and the had the best time with all the birthday festivities. He also started taking his first solo steps on the 29th. He is still in the very cautious stage and mostly wants to hold onto one of our hands but he has gotten better at standing up on his own and seems to walk a little farther every day. I have been so ready for this and I love watching him get excited about it.

Other than that, nothing really new. Stanley's job is keeping him very busy and Nathan is starting to want to go with him in the mornings when he leaves for work. The other day, he watched Stanley put on his tie, then reached for the tie rack. Stanley put a tie around Nathan's neck. Then after Stanley put on his socks, Nathan of course held up his feet for socks as well. He was ready to go with his pajamas, tie, and socks on and was quite disapppointed when he had to stay with me. It was too cute!

Hope you all are well. I'm really ready for the temps to stay below 80 for good.

Take care!

Awww! We miss you, Stanley and Nathan. We've been watching videos and looking at pictures of our trip to your house. We were laughing at Chelsea being scared of Nathan's spider. That was so funny. How excited for Nathan to take his first steps! Go NATHAN!! We love you all!

that is sweet. Clara just started trying to slip my shoes on and walk around the house. My feet are HUGE so it is a funny sight to see. But, it does warm your heart to see your children copy you. (Also a little scary too..when you realize how impressionable they are).

That really helps me to remember that they are watching us and everything we do, and imitate us, even when they are older. I am glad he is taking steps, I'm sorry we missed that!

Tagged

I've never done one of these before, but I will just for you.

Rules: List 8 strange facts about yourself and then tag 8 people. (I think those are the rules. I wasn't looking at them and just wrote them from memory.)

1) I must set my alarm for an odd time like 6:27, 5:31 etc.

2) Before going to bed I have to recheck that I turned off all appliances in the kitchen, double check all doors to make sure they are locked, and check the closets. This must be done even if I did it earlier in the night.

3) I relate things in life to music. I may even randomly burst into song if I can think of one that relates to the situation, and I usually can. (I get this from my mom, who knows way more songs than I do.)

4) Since Nathan was born I cannot watch any kind of scary/suspenseful/psychological thriller type of show or movie. I was like this to some extent before having him, but it's way worse now.

5) I love to have conversations with children as if they were adults. I love to hear what they have to say and can converse with them for a quite a long time.

6) When I get my haircut, I hum along to whatever music is playing in the salon. Sometimes I don't even realize I'm doing it until the stylist says something about it. Actually, I think I do this more than I realize in many public places.

7) I dislike silences in conversation. I am one of those people who feels like there should be no dead air when in the presence of others. This in turn leads to me talking waaaay too much.

8) I sweep the floor multiple times a day. I can't stand when things get on my feet if I'm walking bare foot. I even think I'm becoming a little OCD about this one.
  • sjean
I love #5. Kids get underestimated way too much. We pretty much just talked to ours like we talked to each other.
As for #4, I haven't been able to watch scary movies for a looong time.
    by sjean at 09/23/08 12:02PM
  • lilyofthevalley
I do #2 also. And it drives me crazy to have doors and closets open if I'm going to bed.

I like people that don't like lulls in the conversation, they are the ones that keep things interesting :)

  • bargain_shopper_mom
Why do you check your closets? I check the doors and my appliances are rarely turned on so that's not an issue :) Wait until your older you won't even realize there's been a lull in the conversation. I personally think it comes from having kids and tuning them out. Also if you want to talk to a kid like an adult talk to Kelli. If you have been reading my posts she's hillarious.

#7 is interesting. Sometimes I've tried to see how long the other person can stand it with no one talking. But, only when I don't know the other person. (does that sound mean?)

Aleshia, I have been meaning to tell you about these cd's & dvd's. I used them with my girls, they are great for teaching kids about the classical composers and their music. You guys may already know about them, but I thought they would give a good balance to "Uncle Brians" musical influence on Nathan!

Back to normal...

Well, almost. We got power Monday night at about 11:30. We were so blessed to only have some tree and fence damage, but none to the house. The cooler weather has also been a tremendous bleesing. Still can't find much frozen/cold stuff at the stores, but that's getting a little better every day too. Hope all of you are well if you were in the storm's path or not. Remember to pray for those who lost everything or close to it. We had 2 in our congregation who had 4 feet of water in their houses.

Good thing this world is not our home.
