So happy Ann Walker was baptized last night!! It's so wonderful! Very proud of her and very happy for Chris that he was able to spread the Word to another soul! Gives me encouragement to try harder to get my mouth moving to speak about God to people more often!
And tonight is my first Partylite show by myself where I have to present the items.....really nervous!!...AGHHH!!!!!!
That's what everyone keeps telling me that it will all fly by, I won't remember anything but yet I need to try to remember everything! Ha....I hope the pictures the photographer takes will help me to remember.
I saw your post on AnnaKay's blog and I just had to say that I know exactly how you feel. We are National Geographic/Discovery junkies, but we also usually end up getting angry with their lack of recognition of our Creator. Honestly I don't understand how they can study for so long and not see that this all didn't happen just by chance.
I have a couple questions for some Bible verses. I just wanted your thoughts on these verses so I can try to understand God's Word better.
1. II John 1: 1-11 (specifically verse 10)-
v.10 - "If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed."
Is God telling us that we are not to allow non-Christians into our homes? I would think it would be okay for a non-Christian to come into your home if you have the intentions of studying with him/her. I'm just not sure if this is saying that we are not to let anyone who is not a Christian into our homes...period. I've been trying to figure this out and don't know where else to look in the Bible to find my answer. I know Jesus would talk to and eat with sinners. But from my understanding, it was always out in public and not at His (Jesus') home (if He even had an earthly home). I just don't know whether we are to not allow certain people (including family and friends) into our house....kinda scary. Or is this talking about someone who just flat out doesn't believe in Jesus or is trying to persuade a Christian to not believe? Or is this talking about someone like that who is trying to cause divisions in the church? I'm confused. Please tell me what ya'll think.
2. I Timothy 2: 11-12
"Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence."
I have struggled with this passage for many years....starting from the time I was a police officer. I have read it over and over again and still haven't come to a conclusion. I know that God doesn't want the woman to be head over men in the church. He wants them to be silent in church. But, this particular passage doesn't say "church." That's why I'm not sure if He is talking about in all aspects of life. Does this mean that a woman can't be a police officer?... because she most certainly will excercise authority over men every single work day. And, does this mean a woman can't have a management position with men under her supervision? For those who don't know, I'm a very literal, word-for-word person. That's why I struggle with some passages because I want to make sure I understand His Word the way He meant for it to be understood. What are your thoughts on this? People I have talked to before have told me that I have nothing to worry about...that this is talking about in the church. I also had people tell me that if it's something against my conscience, don't do it....which I totally agree with. But, I want to understand His Word better.
I hope that these questions don't offend anyone. I'm definitely not meaning to. I have just been confused about these passages for a long time and would like some input that might help me come to my own conclusion finally.
Thanks and lots of love,
Mrs. Young
For #1, is He talking about our individual homes or about the place we come together as Christians and worship? I think it's the latter, but that's my opinion. To my understanding, didn't Jesus not have an earthly home because of the verse talking about foxes having holes and birds having nests, but the Lord has no place to rest His head? I don't think that He is talking about not studying with non-Christians because how else would we be able to spread the Gospel to them? Maybe someone wiser than me can answer this...and for #2, uhh I think it is talking about in worship, but again, I think someone wiser than me could answer this better. These are just my thoughts!
Regarding II John 1:10 - The warning deals with supporting false teachers. The context shows that he is speaking of those who teach false views about Christ (that he did not come in the flesh) and who have transgressed (went beyond) the doctrine of Christ. It was common in that day for "traveling preachers" to stay in the homes of christians as they moved about. To take one of these teachers into your home was a means of supporting them. Compare this to III John 1:5-8. Gauis was commended for supporting those who "...went forth for His name’s sake". The warning here is that we are not to support those who teach false doctrine as we would then be guilty of helping to spread that which is false.
Concerning I Timothy 2:11-12 - The context would suggest he is referring to public worship where the men were to pray everywhere. Compare this passage to I Corinthians 14:34-35 where he is clearing speaking of the public assembly. Clearly the point is that women are not to take a leading role in the worship assembly.
The job is going well... I have decided to work 2 8 hour days and one half day instead of 4 hours everyday... that way Savannah and I can just stay at home a couple days and also so I won't get burned out working 6 days a week all the time, cause I'll be working some saturdays too...
I might add to Jamie's comment that II Tm. 2:11,12 applies to the context of a man, a woman and the word of God. In that context she was not to exercise authority over a man. This would not necessarily apply to a woman in a management position. Howver, when we view the over Bibical role of the woman in the Bible, it would be difficult for a woman to have authority over a man at work, but suddenly switch roles at home or in a spirtual context. Therefor, I think it not best for a Christian woman not to hold a managment position over men.
-We slept a lot yesterday from being worn out from the caving.
-One cave eats flashlights whole!
-We got stuck several times!
-We have scrapes, bruises, and war wounds!
-We met a jumping mouse and his two bat friends face to face!
-We're going tomorrow for some more caving adventures!-this time it actually will be in the cave we don't think anyone has been in before....and in the one that has a creek running through it 92 feet below the surface.
-Yes, we are insane....but we don't really look at it that way. :-)
Here are some more pics and videos...there are a lot but we really want everyone to get an idea of what caving is like...because we know a lot of people don't have an interest in doing it but are interested in what it's like. We want people to realize how much fun this really is (don't pay attention to our bruises, scrapes, and soreness....put all that aside..lol). But to get to experience another world below the surface....getting to see things that most of the rest of the world hasn't seen...and getting to be an explorer....that's what we call fun!
Sorry for so many pics and videos....well I'm not really sorry..haha. But we love sharing our fun! Can't wait til tomorrow when we go in further!!
Love,
Mrs. Young
John psyched about caving!:
The entrance into the cave has to be locked so kids and animals can't fall into it:
Getting ready:
See ya at the bottom!!:
Angela descending:
John descending (you can hear me at the bottom just running my mouth away because I didn't know he was video taping):
The darkness that lays below:
We spent about 3 hours in this cave. We were moving large, dangerous rocks out of the way so we can go back on Friday further into the cave. This is only the beginning of the cave. I think the property owner said it's at least 2 miles long with a creek through it:
The hole we have to descend into on Friday. This is the hole we don't want to get plugged up with those rocks. It's the only known way out:
After a lot of hard work of moving rocks, we're going to ascend back up:
John ascending back up out of the cave (I love this video of him):
Yay!! Light and fresh air!!:
The next cave we went into...and the one we plan on not going back into (due to extremely tight spaces, getting stuck, jumping/flying mouse, and meeting his two bat friends face to face). The entrance is small, but it gets even smaller inside!:
"OH, will he be okay?" :-)
The tight spaces we wiggled through and had to get un-stuck from:
John took this video because he wanted everyone to see how dark it is inside the caves. The only light in the video is from his helmet light:
A video of me descending into the tightest spot in the cave. And the comment I make in the video about being a woman....I was referring to the fact that women generally have wider hips that men and that makes it harder to get through:-)
Finally got to the bottom of the cave....about 100-150 feet down we think. This is the spot where we were when we were sitting down and I looked up to see either a flying mouse or a bat about 10 inches away from my face and then flying right by John's face. I guess I need to get over my disgust of bats if I wanna get into better caves, huh? :-)
Ascending back up:
Next time, I will TRY not to post so many pics and videos...
yikes, I don't think you could pay me enough money to do that... you are brave... I would freak out the first time I got even remotely stuck and would never go back... but I think my husband would love it, ha!
that was so interesting! the whole time i was looking at the pics i was thinking what ever you go down you must go up! and that is the reason i couldnt go caving...it looks like so much fun, thanks for sharing it :) oh and good luck and have fun tomorrow!!!
How do you guys find these caves? And who lets you guys in them if they are locked? Do you guys ever just go to the movies and do normal, boring stuff?! :)
Two things I find hard to understand: Jumping out of a perfectly good airplane and going underground before you are dead! But I loved looking at your pictures and videos! I'm glad George told me about them! Another question I have: Don't snakes live in holes in the ground?
I just wanted to say thank you very much to all of you who have been checking up on John and seeing how he's feeling. We really appreciate your thoughts, concerns, and prayers. It seems that he is 100% better as of late last week! We think he was starting to get bronchitis. And then he injured his back at work right after that. But after lots of rest, meds, prayers, and a chiropractor visit, he's all better! I'm so excited...he's back to his old self!!!! :-) We even went rappelling and ascending last night! And, we're going caving tomorrow as soon as he gets home from work!
Please keep us in your prayers tomorrow while we are in the caves...I know I'll be praying! .it's not the safest hobby in the world. ;-) I feel the need to pray harder for tomorrow. and, one cave we're planning on going into we don't think anyone else has ever been into....but we certainly know there are bats!
At least this will help me get away for a day from the stress of all the things I need to get done around the house!!
God willing, we'll see ya'll Wednesday.
Yikes, have fun and be safe! Yea, David prefers Kashi cereal and Thai food. I love that he's differet, too.
