Well, Thursday just ended with lots to tell you! It has been quite an experience. Yesterday started out by getting up late.(which was very exciting for me) Everyone went and ate breakfast in this cute little coffee shop. Very Delightful as Londoners would say. We thought we could get some money from the bank across the street but there was a fare to get the money changed so we asked the ladies at the coffee shop if we could bring money back that afternoon, when we could exchange some money. They believed us so we headed out to the tube to ride to our destination, the British Museum. First we found a place that exchanged money for free at Marks & Spencer's (like our target) and then headed on to the British Museum. That was so fascinating! Lots of history and neat things to look at. WE took lots of pictures as you can guess. We spent a few hours looking around the ginormous (i think i made up that word) place and then decided it was time to go back to the coffee shop and eat lunch there. I'll have to say they looked very relieved when we showed up. Lunch was delicious once again.
We went back to our hotel and took a very long 2 hour nap and rested up which felt quite nice. Everyone is in such a hurry here and they walk everywhere so you get tired pretty quick. My legs are pretty sore today. At about 5:30 we headed out once again and hopped on the tube to get on a boat tour. We saw some cathedrals and the Tower of London. We went under the London Bridge. It was a nice tour. The tower was actually closed already so we couldn't go inside. We went to the Trifalgar Square. It is just part of history that you can say you've been to. It was nice. It had a fountain and statues. We moved on to Picadilly Circus. That was the night life. Everyone was there. An Empire Casino was having there grand opening so all the wealthy people were walking down a carpet with people watching all around. It was interesting. Don't see that everyday. We went into a few shops and just looked around. It's so pretty here and different but hard to put in words. You wouldn't think it was that different until you actually can experience it yourself. But anyways we ate dinner at Bella Italiano. It was extremely good. Lauren and I shared a pizza. Everyone stays up really late and eats really late. I guess we fit right in because we didn't finish eating until about 10 or 10:30. We finally got into our beds at around midnight.
we started Thursday pretty early. We spent the day on a bus tour. It started at 8:30 which meant we had to get up to eat breakfast, catch the tube, and actually find the place where the tour started. it was a 8 hour tour. We visited Salisbury Cathedral, a Pub for lunch, Stonehenge, and The Roman Baths. Salisbury was beautiful. It was built in 1220 if i recall. Very old it has actually been under construction for the past 10 years and they are still working on it to refurbish, clean, and help it stay standing. The Pub was interesting. When you hear PUb you think of a bar but it's actually a family restaraunt. it was very cozy and cute. We had chicken salad and beef stew. Lovely as they say. :) Stonehenge is still a mystery to everyone. It was beautiful. london's countryside is amazing. We took so many pictures. The houses are so different from ours, too. Very neat. Now the Roman Baths were just so cool. They were built in the 1200's as well i believe. And they are still working. No one uses them obviously but they have built a museum around it to tell you how it was built and what it was used for. They were used to cleanse yourself but in a holy way. It was so interesting. It was a 2 1/2 hour ride back to London so we napped and listened to ipods, visited, and looked out and the beatiful scenery.
They dropped us off at Herrod's. A 5 story department store. it was Huge!! But no one i know could afford it. It was fun just to look around and see how people here dress. The dress is very different here. You could wear practically anything and be in style. Pretty crazy things you see. But then we decided to go shopping elsewhere to look at things we could afford. We got back on the tube and rode to Oxford Circus. i went into a gift shop and bought a 10 dollar london shirt i am pretty proud of its cute but it was cheap compared to everything else. We ate at a dainty little cafe. Dad had a cheeseburger and lauren had a organic salad and pat and i had pasta. Lovely :) Then we headed "home"
Well this is pretty lengthy but i guess appropriate. Tomorrow will be a short day but i'll save that for another time. London is coming to an end and now its time to start our work in Ethiopia. Which will be another experience in itself. I'm greatful i've gotten to come here and thank all those who have made it possible. I also thank God that i'm getting this opportunity to teach the gospel. I have that opportunity all the time at school but not on the other side of the world. But anyways i better head to bed its midnight and listening to myh dad snooring behind me is making me sleepy. Goodnight and love!
