But Zion said, "The LORD has forsaken me; my Lord has forgotten me."
[And the Lord replied] "Can a woman forget her nursing child, that she should have no compassion on the son of her womb? Even these may forget, yet I will not forget you.
Behold, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands;
your walls are continually before me."
Isaiah 49:14-16
I have 2 confessions and several statments to make:
Confession One:
The skirt I am wearing at work today I have had for nearly 2 years. I have washed it 0 times. (Its very nice suedeish matieral - Dry Clean ONLY)
In My Defense:
I never wear it anywhere but church, so its rarely worn for more than an hour or 2. Besides, I'm clean.
Confessions Two:
I hate killing things but once I start killing something I finish it off quickly. Namely, bugs/spiders/anything creepy crawly.
In My Defense:
I only kill them where they are in my space. Besides, they're icky.
Today I:
-Discovered, Hunted/Chased, and Killed a very large hornet that was in my space, namely, on top of my head.
-Had several boys wave 'bye-bye' to me. (I'm sooo popular with the 4 and under crowd!)
-Smiled nicely and helped a few 'members' (we dont call them customers here!)
-Watched a rather huge woman who was wet (was she sweating? had she just been at the pool?) and sporting a very G.I. Jane-esque hairdo try to use our coin counter with limited success. What did she keep her coins in, you ask? Pill Bottles. Lots of them. Very odd.
-Have been told very enthusiastically "GOSH! YOU'RE BEAUTIFUL" by a very sweaty, obnoxious 'member.' BTW: this man mentions 'Lucy in the sky with diamonds' nearly every time he shows up here... and makes sure everyone knows it is about LSD.
Just to name a few.
This is my life... or rather... my job.
Does anyone else feel revolted when its OBVIOUS that a rather older member of the opposing sex 'checks you out' or looks you up and down in that way?
I do.
A creepy 50ish male 'member' did that to me as I walked by the other day. Then he told me that I had nice legs and proceeded to point out that "thas a compliment!" Gross.
I have been with the 'nast since very near the beginning. It has been interesting to see it go from the almost 100 people that joined previous to me to the whopping 4,207 users that there are today (at last count).
There was something special about the group when I joined. A closeness. I had visited virtually every blog and knew most everyone by name, if not by sight. Now there is still the small group feel... if you dont step far outside your circle of friends.
Funny.
In that vein (contemplative about change) and in my usual style of things on this blog, here are some quotes:
They always say time changes things, but you actually have to change them yourself.
Andy Warhol
Change is the constant, the signal for rebirth, the egg of the phoenix.
Christina Baldwin
Things do not change; we change.
Henry David Thoreau
Nothing endures but change.
Heraclitus
There is nothing like returning to a place that remains unchanged to find the ways in which you yourself have altered.
Nelson Mandela
Any transition serious enough to alter your definition of self will require not just small adjustments in your way of living and thinking but a full-on metamorphosis.
Martha Beck
The more things change, the more they remain...insane.
Michael Fry & T. Lewis
I have decided to give someone the name Jack.
Maybe a child (of mine) one of these days... we'll see.
Jackson nicknamed Jack, hmmm?
I do love that name.
Also:
In case you have forgotten how apt the name of this website is let me kindly remind you...
Pleonast:
One who is addicted to pleonasm
Pleonasm:
The use of more words than are required to express an idea; redundancy.
A superfluous word or phrase.
This website:
An addiction to expressing ideas (that have previously been expressed.)
The newest book on my Must-Read List:
Sunshineby Robin McKinley
I normally recommend any book by Robin (on good authority seeing as i have read everything of her's that I have come in contact with) but Sunshine now holds a special place on my list of must-reads.
Its by far and away my favorite vampire book.
Maybe because of my fascination with all Other-type characters.
Maybe because of the way Robin McKinley spins her tale.
Maybe because I completely relate to Sunshine (which was also my personal favorite of the nicknames i picked up in high school).
Maybe because i fell in love...
I love her dedication (which you have to read the book to understand):
To Peter
my Mel and my Con wrapped up in one (slightly untidy) package. Hey, am I lucky or what?
