Why Lord?

Today I had the opportunity to preach at the Leon Vally church of Christ. As always the Lord my God was with me and provided me with all I needed in the way He knows best. The brethren expressed encouraging words to me as they spoke of the greatness of our Lord and how He provides us with such wonderful words of life. He helps us to know what our weaknesses are and then He tells us how to deal with them. Praise God! Let us praise Him for he is truly glorious and worthy of all honor.

When I got home tonight I was so full of joy. I looked across the room at my God fearing beautiful wife. I looked at my sons as they played in the living room and as they sing songs about our God. I thought about the the anointed King who loved me at calvary. I thought about the Spirit of God that comforts me and marks me. I thought about my Father who takes thought of me. I thought about all of my brethren that have shown me love. Then I said to myself, "I don't believe it, I am the richest man on earth and when I die it will only get better!" Why has God made me thus? Why did my savior come to earth and to the humble go? Why did he choose a lowly birth? Why did he drink the bitter cup of sorrow pain and woe? Why on the cross be lifted up to give His precious life for me?

Its because he loves me so.

So my brethren until Jesus comes I will sing his praise, and then to glory go, and live with him through endless days.

Why?

Because He loves me so.

May glory and honor be to the Lord our God forever and ever. Amen.

Good thoughts! It is so humbling and comforting to know that our Savior loves us, care for us, and not matter what, will always be there for us if we submit our heart to Him!

Thank you for this thought-full journey. I miss those from you! (It wasn't just moving the boys and Aimee from us that made us weep!) Last night, Tim had a wonderful lesson on praising God in song. I have never heard Col 3:16 and Eph 5:19 evaluated so and made so applicable. Personally, it improved my intent in worshiping in song.

I would love to have been able to be there to hear you preach. I remember the last time you were here and preached for us. Yes we are all truly rich because He has redeemed us and given us the hope of eternal life in heaven with Him. He has also blessed us with our wonderful family and in my case with you my precious grandson!

Gentlemen School

Greetings to all!

Today we started a formal class to give our sons obedience training and proper manners when addressing their parents and other adults. Our sons have of course had training in these areas in an informal manner. Table manners and proper etiquette in other areas will also be covered. Although our sons carry themselves quite well by utilizing the informal approach, we believe that offering them more formal and structured instruction could only increase their abilities in these areas. They did a wonderful job tonight and I am a very pleased papa. We decided to call our class, "Gentlemen School". We teach them that the mission of this class is to make fine gentlemen our of them. They had a blast with it. I am looking forward to seeing the results as time passes. Please keep us in your prayers in our efforts to make Godly gentlemen out of our sons.

To all my brothers and sisters in Christ. My prayer is that all of you are having a wonderful day. I love you all!

That is a wonderful idea. If only every child had parents so determined to do their absolute best by their kids. How different do you think this world would be. Even better, if only every parents raised their kids by God's standards. I'm proud of you and Aimee and your boys. I pray that they always remember what you both have taught them and they cling to God. Hope to see you guys soon :)

Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.

Pure in Heart

Not only must one’s hands (outward and visible being) be right, but his heart (inward and invisible being) must be right also. The heart must be kept pure from vile affections and desires, fleshly lusts, unchaste thoughts, worldly lusts. What comes out of the heart is what defiles a man.

My thought is that the genuine pursuit of quantitative purity (although not achievable) equals qualitative purity which is achievable via Christ. I believe the verse speaks of those who are qualitatively pure in heart. Those who genuinely pursue a life set apart from this world for the purposes of God are achieving holiness.

Who can ascend to the top of the hill where the Lord dwells? Who shall ascend into the hill of the LORD? or who shall stand in his holy place? He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully. Psalm 24:3-4

When thou saidst, Seek ye my face; my heart said unto thee, Thy face, LORD, will I seek. Psalm 27:8

Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded. Jas 4:8

To the end he may stablish your hearts unblameable in holiness before God, even our Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ with all his saints. 1Th 3:13

Let not our cup be only clean on the outside which is visible for all to see, but let the inside of our cup be clean as well, which is hidden from men but clearly visible to God.

“God has no body, and therefore is invisible: but men of contemplation can discern him with the heart and understanding. But A Defiled Heart Cannot See God: but He Must Be Pure Who Wishes to Enjoy a Proper View of a Pure Being.”
Origen

He Will Pluck My Feet Out of the Net

You were walking along the straight path and you smelled something tasty. You stop following the path and you started following your own sense of smell. You look down and you notice that you are no longer on a straight path but on a crooked path. You here the voice of your father cry out, "Son come back. Don't go any further!" You move closer to the sweet smell. Your father cries out again, "Son come back. Listen for my voice!" Only this time it is fainter. Your certain that this savory smell must be a good thing to partake of. You move closer. The path below your feet is even more crooked. You hear a faint sound behind you. Maybe its your father, but you can't make out the words. You find the tasty treat you touch it and all of the sudden a net is cast upon you. You struggle to get out. You sense that your life could be very close to an end. You cry out for your father. You don't know if he hears you. It causes you to panic and get even more tangled up in the net. You have exausted yoursef to the the point of no strength. You want to give up when all of the sudden you fathers hands appear, reaching for your feet and taking them out of the net. He carries you back to the straight path. He looks at you and says, "Keep your eyes on me. Stay on the straight path. Do not wonder off being guided by your own sense. You could die." You say, "Yes Father. Thank you! I love you!"

"My eyes are ever toward the Lord for He will pluck my feet out of the net."
Psalm 25:15
