Guess who I just saw!

My sweet little niece. :)
I love her to pieces. She calls me Snezhana and says she's Crystal. Tonight she pointed to my kids and said "these our my kids " lol

So Tuesday night, my husband was on his way to PA and I knew it close to time for him to stop. I called, no answer. I called again, no answer. I called and left a message, really starting to get worried. Here.
I sent a text "call me ". No call. I called 8 times and l'eft 3 messages and 4 text messages in an hour. No answer. Finally, the phone rings with him at the other end. He accidentally had his phone on plane mode. :( do you know how scary that is?
  • aleta
Oh, yeah, very scary! So glad he finally called!

How clever Jessica - Crystal - Snezhana is!

That's great - well, the part about seeing your niece - NOT the part about Brad's phone not being on. Is that what plane mode means? I have that on my phone but no idea what it means!

I went to a meeting tonight, and someone's phone went off. But thankfully the ring wasn't an obnoxious one!

Not making memories with Brad :(

Oh, plane mode...yes, we have done that before when I'm trying to get a hold of my youngest and it's absolutely heart-stopping. O.o Glad everything turned out okay.

You stories about your new niece really warm my heart. :)

I can relate to the no answer. B has been places where we could not have contact, or sometimes he's in meetings, etc. and can't talk. Sometimes he has to turn his phone off. Anyway, all is well that ends well, right?!
    I love my nieces too!!!

Great that you are bonding so quickly with your newest family member. Glad Brad was okay. Sorry that you had such a scare.

It's probably called Derby because it's right across the river from Louisville Ky & Churchill Downs. You can go have dinner (a buffet) & see a show; the shows rotate. Sometimes you can go just to see the show only; no food. We've seen Steel Magnolias, It's A Wonderful Life, Grease and The Sound Of Music to name a few. My hubby & dad saw George Jones. Prices vary depending on the show.

The arrival of Snezhana into her new family makes me very happy.

And I'm glad everything turned out fine with Brad. I've experienced similar scares. My imagination runs away with me.

My done list

Went to parents, had no problems really. Dad was in a very good mood :)
Went to see Annie the musical at the high school ...wow so good. Girl who played miss hannigan did fantastic!
Went to worship this morning, taught class where a guy with.a camera came in and made everyone nervous. (Idk they are making something to pass out to the neighborhood)
Our services were canceled so me and my mil and children were headed to a meeting where Brad's uncle was preaching when my bil called to say they were cancelled too.
Sang with kids
Got phone call at 8:43 that there was a 2hour delay tomorrow
Got the call at 9 that it was closed
O did I mention I talked to my sister for 2 hours!! And heard Snezhana aka Jessica sweet little voice too.

Then my kids wanted to watch a movie, you guessed it Annie! Brad had to work tonight and admitted to singing Annie songs all the way to the yard to pick up his dad and a trailer.
Have a great day! If it's spring where you are enjoy it!

  • cyber_space_cadet
No spring here, that's for sure! Several inches of snow out there.
I love that Brad was singing Annie songs on his way to work. :D

So cute that Brad was singing Annie songs - they are contagious!

You guys must be having some pretty nasty weather. A couple from church here are at some kind of trade (I guess) show in Indianapolis this week. I just stuck my head out the front door to see if any of the outdoor cats were on the porch. I would have given them some food. I feel so sorry for them out there and especially tonight - it is COLD - VERY COLD!!! We had some hail today and hard rains this afternoon and wind. Crazy weather. But I'm glad we're not having ice and snow.

I got a text from my sweet niece yesterday before they left Kiev that made me cry. :) she is one loved little girl.
We are having a shower for them on April 20th, if anyone wants details message me and I will give them to you. She is coming home with very little. Please pray for them to have a safe trip the rest of the way and thank God for this little girl and her parents! GOD brought them together.

So donut contest, my house in one week! I'm the judge! Everyone ok with that? Just kidding. I love that almost everyone is as much of a donut snob as I am.
I now, need some advice. A relative of mine has spent a few nights with us over spring break last year. I had told her that she may get to come this year. However, lately her language on fb has not been very Christian like and uses words and initials that I don't want my kids around at home. I'm sure we could be good for her since her parents are horrible in my opinion, but I don't want to spend the week having more discussion with her than time with my kids. What do I do?
  • kamille
How long ago did you tell her & does she remember it? Maybe she forgot, doesn't want to come or has plans.
How far does she have to travel to get there? Could she only stay 1 or 2 nights versus several?
    by kamille at 03/22/13 7:34PM
  • truckerswife
^she remembers and has already text me. It's about an hour and half but it's the same town as my mom and dad live in.
    by truckerswife at 03/22/13 7:49PM
  • misssonja
This would be a good opportunity to confront her about the FB language. Maybe make her a deal... If she cleans it up between now and then, she can come AND you'll do something special while she's here. Not sure how old she is, so you'd have to modify the way you put it depending on whether she's a teenager or older than that. And it's a good opportunity to share the gospel -- after all, it's not primarily you that she's offending, so she needs to understand that God is listening to her, that she's sinning against Him, that everyone sins, that there is one way to be reconciled to Him, and that with His help she can avoid sin/its consequences and live with the blessing of clean conscience in righteousness.
    by misssonja at 03/22/13 8:48PM
  • ceoltoir
In my opinion there is no reason to feel squeamish about making your rules clear to her before she's allowed to come. You can use kind words and still make it clear that this is non-negotiable. An hour and a half is close enough to take her home if she doesn't follow the rules. You can let her know that up front. Regardless of how she's been brought up, she'll catch on quickly if there are consequences for actions in your house.

She may not want to come once you tell her the rules. I have a relative who didn't want to stay with us because we "have too many rules."
    by ceoltoir at 03/22/13 10:10PM
  • ceoltoir
Ohhh. I see. I'd probably only let her come for a day, two at the most. And I'd tell her why. Then if she behaved and wanted to stay longer, I might let her.
    by ceoltoir at 03/22/13 11:18PM
  • lovescats
If a guest in someone else's home, it's just proper and polite to follow their rules. When in someone else's home, one should be prepared to do things differently. You are well within your right to tell her she's welcome to come "if" and then give her the limitations. And bless you for raising your children to be pleasing to the Lord.

Hope this works out for you!

Stuff

Saturday my bil and sister and my niece are coming home!!! Yay, so excited!
Every week that I have been to my parent's house since my sister left, they have been wondering about a certain treat that they want me to bring them, however I usually go too late and this place is closed so no treat for them. Saturday, I am going early in the morning so I guess I will stop and pick them up a doughnut. I personally am a doughnut snob. Big named shops such as Crispy Cream=yuk and Dunkin donuts=puke in my mouth, understand? So, if you are ever in Boone County, IN stop into Titus's Shop. They make a doughnut, it starts with a P, pershing? I don't know. It is so fresh, you can watch them make the donuts and the icing, and taste the butter in the icing! Seriously good. I always say they are too big and I try to only eat half and save the other half for later. However, it turns into the old Reese's commercial, “it's later” ha! If you do stop and get one, bring me one too. Thanks.
Now that I have gained 5 pounds thinking about that, that brings me to last Friday. I get to mom and dad's and brought in the groceries, put them away and cleaned the house. From the time I got there and right before I left, my mom was just so sure I lost weight. Maybe ;-) I am one of those that I was just a little late to be diagnosed with ADD, but would have been- We have had this conversation before, ha ha! Well anyway, my parents just don't get it. I go all day on lists, no lists, no accomplishment. Or if I know what needs to be done in my head, same thing every time, I stick with that. But dad yelling “C you need to do this” mom yelling “wash dad's bed sheets” dad saying “you can do this when we get back, take me to the bank” I do not function well and feel the need to scream. I didn't this time, only because dad was in a good mood for a change. I did feel like it though! Sigh, now I get to go back this weekend. Well they will be eating doughnuts, maybe not as bad. =)
Ala is really liking golf. I am very glad since she wanted really bad to do a sport but with her rolling ankle, it just wasn't a smart idea. This way she gets to play and not much damage to her ankle.
Well time to go help Wyatt finish his homework, pick up Alana, make sure Maggie wears clean clothes to bible study tonight and feed everyone! Have a great rest of the week all!
Happy Spring!

In Bloomington there's a shop called Square Donuts. That's my very favorite. What is it about Indiana and donuts?! But I have to admit I wouldn't turn down a warm Krispy Kreme either. If you go to the KK shop at the right time you can get them piping hot. Mmmmmm! It works for me since Square Donuts is two states away.

There is guy around here renowned for his donut shop. It's open until he runs out, which isn't long, so it's hard to catch him.

My favorite doughnuts are at Long's Bakery off of 16th Street in Indy. Of the times that someone was in the Methodist Hospital, I would stop by there and get them. Either to take to the hospital as a treat or to take home. One night when my Mom was in the hospital I stopped and got 3 dozen. One dozen to eat there (she had 8 visitors that night), one dozen for home and one dozen to take to work. At one time they were open 24 hrs. but now they close at 11 at night, but still they make the donuts all day long. There were times when I would drive by and there would be line out the door. I think the longest I had to wait was 15 or 20 minutes. All this talk I think I need a doughnut! Ha Ha!!!

I'm sure you are right! When I lived up there in KY and IN, KK's were starting to close down. They're VERY sparse down here, so I haven't checked them out in a while.

We had KK's in Georgia where I lived. They're okay - I prefer local places. There's one here that I really like. But I am not a regular eater of donuts - not a healthy thing for me. Delicious - but not healthy - especially after the heart surgery.

I never got the Square Donuts - they are big in Terre Haute. I used to go to Vogel's in Marion, best carmel rolls in the world, but they closed a few years ago. I heard someone is serving their recipe there, but not sure who. If the snow stops in Kiev, we hope to come home, if we can get there due to the snow coming to Indiana.
