there's nothing you have that i need
So about a month ago whilst hanging out with some friends, two of us in the group (Erin and I) decided to see if we could sing and guitar it all the way through a random song. After trying out a few Beatles and Ray Charles tunes we settled on the one below. So after two very brief attempts at the first verse just to figure out what key to play the song in, we made it all the way through Leonard Cohen's brilliant 1984 track, Hallelujah. You may know the song better via Jeff Buckley's massively overrated cover.
The best part is the line, "The fourth, the fifth, the minor fall and the major lift" which corresponds perfectly to the IV, V, vi, IV of the chord progression.
Anyway...

I really enjoyed it James. Thanks for posting. Erin did a great job and you did an okay job! :D -
how sweet! -

The funny thing is I'm editing pictures, listening to Pandora radio and the above SHREK version comes on... You did a better cover! -
leonard cohen is good stuff and your friend erin has a pretty voice. i also like the rufus wainwright version (shrek version) of that song. it's a good song for learning the circle of fifths. -
Great post! I first heard that song a year or so ago and read upon on Jeff Buckely and talk about an interesting but short musical career he had one. Yall did a great job with it. Nice to meet you as well. -
Very good. -
sorry. i'm jarod. i don't remember ever meeting you, but if you go to northwest then it's possible depending on how long you've gone there. i visited there several times in 2004. my sister and brother-in-law attended there about 6 months during that time. it was a great congregation. -
I still think you should have waited for a finished product... Or, at least, a more rehearsed one. -
I think Erin needs to make a blog entry. -
I think erinnnn needs more "n"'s in her name. -
I assumed "Erin" was already taken, so I just added a few n's for originality. And a blog entry is coming... As soon as I think of something to write that is worth reading. -
Thanks!! You're a great friend!
