WAYNE'S WEEKEND NEWS 12 April 2012
We had two power failures this week. Five hours on Tuesday and just in case that wasn't enough the power went off for eight hours on Thursday. I had to run my emergency generator each time to keep the refrigerators cold. Because the power company does a poor job clearing the right-of-way lines around here the trees fall across the lines and we are left in the dark. I am sure the tree huggers are as happy as can be though. They can't stand to have a tree cut down.
I sprayed my fruit trees this week and it took four hours to do the job. The most frustrating thing is it seems to do more damage to the trees than good. The trees looked beautiful before I sprayed and the next day a bunch of limbs looked like they had been sprayed with acid as they turned brown. I even diluted the spray more than the recommended amount but still the leaves burned. I guess I will have to spray them after midnight so they don't get any sunlight on them as I expect that is what the problem was. I waited until two thirty in the afternoon to start spraying and finished at about six thirty. The warning on the bottle says to not spray in direct sun light. How are you supposed to do that?
I spent most of yesterday stacking firewood from my wood lot into the two wood sheds beside the Barn. I really don't mind this job as every piece of wood I move just reminds me of no fuel bills come winter. That leaves me with a good feeling. It is nice to be able to cut yourself off from expensive heating bills and know you are going to be nice and warm when the snow flies in just a few months. How many of you out there can say the same? Anyone else heat with wood? That seems to be a thing of the past. And yes, I think the environmental whackos would love to stop me from polluting "their" little world with my smoke.
I tilled up the garden this afternoon and planted 48 white sweet potato vines that Paul Casebolt bought for me, 24 tomato plants (4 varieties), 6 sweet peppers, 6 hills of cucumber plants (2 varieties) and three hills of yellow summer squash.
A farmer has to have faith or he would never plant anything. You have to depend on the Lord to send the rain and sunshine that is needed to make things grow. You have to believe you can beat all the bugs and critters that also want to eat your plants and vegetables as much or more than you do. You have to believe the Lord will give you the strength to take care of the weeding and hoeing and other back breaking work that has to be done in order to raise a crop. The sweet corn has already sprouted and is about three inches high. I have never planted corn this early but I was trusting in the weather forecast that no frost was expected. It did get down to 40 and 42 degrees this week but no frost, thankfully.
I plan on using Alan's lesson, JESUS PRAYS FOR HIS DISCIPLES, tomorrow at Clendenin. This is a very encouraging lesson to those of us who are also disciples of the Lord today. Jesus spent a long time in prayer the night before he was crucified praying for the welfare and success of his disciples whom He would be leaving in a short time. We can learn a great deal from a study such as this. Jesus accomplished all the work that God gave Him to do while He lived on this earth. His words are life to those who will be led by them. God's word is truth and it is all men need in order to come to the Father. We cannot be saved without knowing the word of God. Do you know God's word?
Tomorrow is the holiday called Mother's Day. Honor your mother on this day and every day. Let her know you appreciate her.
Until next week, be a blessing to others,
Wayne

Thank you for your kind word, Miss Peni. I am recovering, slowly :-) I can not be sad for the reason of the moving, but that doesn't make me miss them any less! -
Love the pictures. Would that I could hear that little stream. Slept 10 hours last night. Back a bit stiff this morning and pain has shifted slightly to the left but is better. Perhaps the exercise helped. Think I will google back exercises to see what I might do to help.
