    Scouting trip when I was 12. We hiked 10 miles from the highway through the wilderness to a lake that was mostly frozen over. My friend had borrowed a $50 lure (as I call) from his dad. It became detached from his pole and fell in the hole in the ice where we were fishing. I saw it reflecting off the floor of the lake about 8 feet down so I jumped in without thinking. That's as close as I hope I ever am to hypothermia and I'm sure my scoutmasters were very fearful that I had frostbite on my feet. That was a long and painful walk back to the cars that night.
