Mike's grandmother, Alma Phillips, passed away yesterday.

Today we had a surprise party for my grandfather's 90th birthday next week. I really can't believe we pulled it all off, but we did!
Here's how it went:
All the children and their spouses went to my aunt's for a birthday lunch (making him think it was the only celebration).
Meanwhile, some of the grandchildren set up the room at a hotel near their house.
Each of the children made their own excuses for having to leave soon after lunch.
My uncle had the job of driving Papa to the hotel where the grandchildren were waiting outside to sing Happy Birthday.
We had a great time doing this and he had no idea until he got out of the car that we were doing this!
It was great to see everyone who came, especially those who had to travel. We had family from Ohio, Alabama, South Carolina, and Texas all come in for the party. There was even a special visit from Donnie Rader who was on his way to a meeting in Indiana.
A wonderful time was had by all, but I'm not sure if anyone was more excited than my grandmother.

One of the interesting stories of the day....the card holder in the pictures is about 25 years old. It was given to him by a couple that he built a house for and he has kept it all these years. The couple was able to come to the party today and were so touched that he kept that all these years.
