Busy , busy

Life remains busy. Got home on Saturday morning and left the next Wednesday night for Florida with Nancy. Went to services in Montgomery, spent the night in Dothan, had breakfast with Kay and on to Tampa to FC. Got to see Paul's office and meet his co-workers and spend time with Paul and Amy. Went to IKEA which was really cool--had never been there before. Saturday Nancy dropped me off at my brother's house and I went to my nephew's wedding while she went to visit her uncle. Drove to Tifton and were exhausted, but no room in the inn, so on to Macon. Services Sunday a.m. at Powers Ferry in atl, home in time for the 3 p.m. singing and 4 p.m. for our meeting which started on Sunday with Bob Waldron. Services each night this week, two to go--he is doing a wonderful job as you would expect. Happy to be off tomorrow since the market is closed for Good Friday. Looking forward to the long weekend, except my to do list is as long as my arm--I need two more weeks off for that. Everyone have a wonderful weekend!

Whew! I am exhausted just reading this!!! Sounds like you had a great time making memories! We surprised Paul & Ginnie at worship Sunday morning! Ate with them before heading back home. It was fun! She was so happy, and so was he!!!

Yes, we were so close but yet...

Sounds like your whirlwind trip was as crazy or crazier than ours. Love road trips with girlfriends, though. 26 hours of talking nonstop! :-)

Sounds wonderful! Would love to see your Italy pictures. I'm not big on traveling, but I think I would enjoy Italy too, especially meeting with the brethren and see how they do things there!

Ciao!

I think I only post when I am on vacation. We left Cullman on March 7 and went to services at Rolling Hills outside Nashville and then on March 8 we flew to Italy!!!! We returned to Nashville on March 23 and then home to Cullman on Saturday the 24th. It was a wonderful trip and we are recovering nicely from jet lag. I have edited my pictures down to around 2800. We went to Trieste first and stayed there until Tuesday when we took the train to Venice to join the tour that Leon Mauldin was conducting. We went to Venice, Pisa, Florence, Sorrento/Amalfi Coast and Rome. Rode in a gondola, a horse and buggy, the train, the Metro, taxis, cars and buses--and walked a million miles. Worshipped with Italian brethern in Trieste, Monfalcone and Poggiomarino. The tour went to Poggiomarino for worship--we basically doubled their number for worship and it was a very emotional experience. David Thomley taught us the words to the Italian hymns that we would be singing and it was just amazing. Lunch or dinner at 4 unbelievable Italian restaurants. Many stories to tell.

I can't complain to much. This is the most snow we have had all winter. It's been a really mild year so far but could change in a heartbeat. I think of eastern Europe with their "Deep Freeze" that is killing people. I thank God for what we have (and I am NOT a winter person)

How could my week off be over?

I had a wonderful week off--Jim and Linda got here on Monday afternoon around 1:30 and Bill and Kay got here around 6:45 Monday night. We went to dinner at a local restaurant here we just love and then stayed up WAY to late for us old folks--but we had a ball. Bill and Kay left Tuesday after lunch and Jim and Linda left Wednesday a.m. We had such a great time--wish everyone was closer.

Wednesday a.m. I went to the dentist--another crown--that will make 3 this year. Glad to have dental insurance that covers some of it. After dentist went for massage and she really has helped my back issue. Went from Wednesday to Saturday before I had the next twinge.

The rest of my week was spent stripping wallpaper from the spare room--the last room in the house that we have not worked on. Thankfully whoever wallpapered had put sizing on the wall so it is coming off fairly easily--not quite done, but a few more hours will get it I think. I have decided to paint it gray--and I have found some bedding and curtains I just love--trying to talk myself out of them--they are a little pricey--but haven't seen anything else I like as well. We are going to do crown moulding (is that spelling right?) and tall baseboards.

I love my house--and how it's decorated but it takes me forever to decide and sometimes in the course of deciding some of those things I bought early on don't work when I finally make up my mind how I want it.

So--it was back to work yesterday--and it was a long day
  • neenee
It makes me feel better that you're still working on your house. I feel like I have made very little progress in my own, but maybe slow and steady is the way to go. :)

Glad the massage helped your back!!

"Jim and Linda", "Bill and Kay". The name combinations that still ring in my memory! How great to have spent time with them! (I have met and worshiped with two other "Jim and Linda's since!). Glad the massage helped you. I have wondered about that for my mother as we see options falling by the wayside. Have fun in your last room! Today, I will be finishing up Gene's/the guest bathroom by painting the walls and trim. This old house will never be perfect, but it has character. Have a great day!

Good to hear from you on here! Hope you are doing better. Perhaps a regularly scheduled massage would be of benefit...of course working on removing wall paper is probably not a good thing for your back, but we gotta do what we gotta do!!!!

Shawnee--part of the house is waiting for the budget to allow and part of it is making up my mind. Of course, we have painted it numerous times over the years--but finally worked on crown and baseboards (which still need to be done in some rooms) and actually bought bedspreads etc to pull it all together--so much fun. Aleta--your mom needs to get a massage--I find them very helpful as I always have neck and shoulder issues--this farther down my back is something new--age I guess--gotta remember I dont need to try to pick up and carry and move things that in the past wouldn't have bothered me. Jane--I get a massage on a semi regular basis--my sweet hubby usually gives me gift certs for birthday, anniversary etc. He says I am going to go anyway so he might as well get the credit for it. :-) Actually since he has had his back problems he has started going once a month--went more often than that--but now that he is not having so many issues he goes once a month. I would like to go once a day if I could--but alas the budget will definitely not handle that. Are John's neck/back issues better?

Katie & I almost came by last night to pretend we were coming in to see the house. ;) We decided against it, though. We thought it would be funny to come to the door and say, "But Mr. Steve said it was ok... he said as long as it only took 5 minutes, it should be alright." ;)

Glad your urgent care visit went well. I am improving slowly. My ears are still plugged and it is hard to hear. Your shot should help get you going faster. For whatever reason, the docs here do not want to give shots.... frustrating.
John is hanging in there. I think his patience is wearing thin. But there is light at the end of the tunnel!!!!!!! Surgery is Dec 23.
    Take care!

Alabama storms

Just a quick update because I must get to bed. Steven and I are fine and there was virtually no issues with the weather in our neighborhood. Cullman County, however, has several areas that were severely affected by the storms. The amount of destruction in the downtown area of Cullman is unbelievable--and as bad as the pictures look--seeing it is much worse. Thankfully we have only two reported deaths to date from the storm--many areas in Alabama have many, many more. Please pray for all those involved in the relief efforts and for all those who have lost family, friends and homes. We have power but at this point do not know anyone else who does unless they have a generator.
  • split_rock
Glad you're ok. Witnessing that much devastation must be sobering. So glad you could pitch in and help with the clean-up.

So glad you're ok. I think all of our folks in that area are ok, but my cousin's husband's barber shop was in Phil Campbell. She said it was a good thing he was closed when the storm came through because his shop was demolished. We heard somewhere that there were 25 killed there in that little town alone. I think the church building survived, though.

Thanks for asking, Judy. I think our folks are all ok. I haven't talked to any of them since last week. I am wondering about people from the congregation there in Phil Campbell. Don't know if any of them were hurt (or worse). I have seen some footage on Youtube and through other links. Unbelievable, isn't it?

Do you know if any of the dead in Phil Campbell were members of that congregation? They are so small in number now that it would be devastating. It's devastating anyway. So, so sad. I must call my cousin again.
