Random cute.

The first video is of a 2 month old axolotl who came home with Brian because I married a man who brings animals home in his pockets.

The second video Brian shared with me and it made me laugh. :)

I can't figure out how to post them here so I'm putting them in the comments. Enjoy!!

This made me go read about axolotls on Wikipedia. What kind of research did you say they are doing with them at Harvard?

Axolotls regenerate body parts if they get...removed. They can regenerate entire limbs, their tail, parts of their spinal cord, and significant parts of their brains (don't quote me on it, but I believe up to 30%). So the research focuses on what genetic mechanisms allow for such dramatic regeneration abilities, even in adult animals. The eventual, pie-in-the-sky goal would be to be able to use this information to allow humans to regenerate body parts in a similar manner. The research being done here is very pre-clinical, but the results have been promising so far!

So someday, the humble Axolotl might be responsible for helping amputees regrow body parts, very cool!
