New Post on Dabatown blog

So I wrote a new post and I'd really like some replies. This post isn't as silly or typical of my blog - it means more to me because I am seriously interested in the topic.

Don't know how to link stuff so here:

I'll reply. :) Those are really good questions and I think sometimes it is hard to determine the answers. We cannot see the attitude of heart and it can be disguised under one pretense or another. However, I do believe that being "trendy" or up on the new things or "in the know" starts at a very early age. There is a lot of pressure even in the low elementary grades to have the coolest things. I remember reading an article once about how children in Sweden have a lot less competition because of uniforms. They all have the same three outfits to wear each week. Now does that mean that they suppress your individuality? I don't think so. I think that means people will be your friend (or enemy) based on your personality and how you treat other people.

There are some people that just naturally draw other people in. They are what I like to call "naturally popular." I grew up with a guy like that and everyone wanted to be his best friend. My youngest brother-in-law is that way, too. From the time he could talk, he would grab the attention of kids his own age up to adults that thought he was just adorable. And he had no idea what pop culture was. :)

There ares some people that will always follow what's popular. But there is a group of people that just does what they like to do. I for one will probably never own a pair of skinny jeans. I just don't like them, I don't care how popular they are. And in another 5-10 years, I'll probably stick out like a sore thumb with my bootcut jeans and hoodie. :) But there are, after all, still women that wear high wasted, tapered leg jeans - just because they like them. :)

Not sure if that helps or not, but maybe it's worth 2 cents. :)

End of Dead Week

Oh the joys of dead week... not. So many frantic students. So many last minute questions. My attitude has always been: can't we just take the final already?

Next week shouldn't be so bad. It will mostly revolve around my students and grading. I have one take home test I hope to finish this weekend.

Next semester:

-"Teaching" (...proctoring...) babysitting Math 015 (5th grade math for BSU students) online and tutoring in the MLC.

-Taking Abstract Algebra 2 and Linear Algebra.

-Thesis editing and Defense.

GRADUATION?!?

Note: I have no problem teaching lower level math. I respect people who have good attitudes about learning math even if they have not taken math for awhile. I respect hard work and I can relate to the frustration that comes with learning math. The problem is that most Math 015 students do not come into the class with a good attitude.
Update:
I got the hours I requested for tutoring in the Math Learning Center. I love working quiet Saturdays... it helps me to get my work done :) Today I graded all the end of semester projects and I've gotten some of my take home final done.

You can watch the episodes for free online at tvduck.com (be careful which websites you choose) or they're all available thru netflix. I also found the first 4 seasons at Blockbuster.

I think season 6 is only available thru hulu.com. They're going to rerun all episodes in the next couple weeks. :)

That makes sense. We had a lot of older students at OSU that might have needed that.

Great Trip

David and I had a fanTASTic trip to Rhode Island. The worst part of the trip was the two long days of travel but since I'd prolly be sitting around at home reading anyway I didn't mind doing it on a plane or at a layover. David doesn't like to fly at all, and that is why it was the worst part. We made it through just fine and enjoyed all the wonderful friends and family who were there last week.

I REALLY appreciate all the hard work that Courtney and her mom did in preparation for (and during) the vacation. Our stay was so comfortable that we felt liked we'd always lived there.

Merry and Teddy were so cute and we miss them a lot. It is hard not to constantly talk about all the cute things they did and said while we were there. We will continue to talk about the memories until the next opportunity to make them. (*achoo* ... BLESS YOU!!!)

We have always discussed moving near the RI crew for a period of time, and even though we know we can't afford it right now, we talk about it even more than we used to. Lord willing we will live in close proximity to them sometime in the near future.

Love you all and hope you all had a good holiday!

We miss you guys too! Meredith just saw the picture and said "look at my Auntie Bailey and Uncle David" Getting together is so special and it makes you guys real to the kids. I want them to be close to you and comfortable with you even though you don't see them very often.
