The Break of Spring

I went back home to Richmond, VA and brought my former roommate, Kaitlin Sanders, with me. I think she's handled my family pretty well! We've gone shopping a few times for wedding things and I've been applying at a lot of different places for a job this summer. The one job I'm really hoping to get is at a Plantation being a tour guide. Dad took us to downtown Richmond one afternoon and we saw the capital building, the Edgar Allen Poe museum (which, sadly, turned out to be kind of disappointing) and Monument Ave. where there's a different monument every block and it's lined with beautiful colonial and victorian houses! Other than that, we've just been sleeping in, cooking and sleeping some more. It's been a very nice, relaxing spring break to be sure :)

Tomorrow our flight leaves at 7am which means we will be getting up with the sun.

I suppose I should apologize for not posting for two months! The month of February was nothing short of insanity. First there was lectures, which was very good. I actually was able to attend several of the day lectures after I volunteered in Dicus during the mornings. Next began musical practice although I actually did not get involved with until the last week. I was again chosen to be curtain lady which meant I was backstage during every performance. The week before spring break was mid-term week and I felt buried beneath three tests and several projects. But it all ended fair.
I also had to be finished with my yearbook spreads before spring break. I can't wait to see it when it comes out!

This next side of spring break I can see being a little less busy, at least for me (and Luke!).

For inquiring minds, the wedding planning to going well and I have discovered my love of flowers and butterflies. There are still several things to do, of course, but I'm enjoying planning and thinking of ideas with Luke. And I still want the groomsmen to have swords. O_o

Thankfulness:
- Rain
- Warm weather
- Flowers
- Is it okay to be thankful for thankfulness?? :)

love,
Sarah Jane

The trip was WONDERFUL! Yes, it was quite ironic that Lucky was the one to die. I'm glad you had a good break. It is definitely to be thankful for thankfulness. :)

I don't think you should let those "boys"(seems the appropiate term at the moment) get anywhere NEAR swords! ;)

    I'm thankful you're thankful...so there!

As for decorating, I give you FREE REIGN ... do anything you like. I did think I'd like to plant sunflowers by the new fence GF is building around the orchard...but they take too long to bloom in July. Maybe we could substitute a sunflower garland on top?

Spring

It is 11:37pm and 27 degrees in the sunshine state. But I digress...

I shall not complain for I have hot tea and plenty of blankets :) And next week it will be spring.

I am much looking forward to the insaneness which will most likely be encompassing this semester. I hope you are too.

Thankfulness:
- Russian tea
- flannel
- skating parties with 15 people
- bunk beds
- strong men like Luke Moyer and Emerson Brown.
- six months until I become Mrs. Luke Moyer

yours truly,
Sarah Jane

20-10. 2,010. Oh-10.

My time in Virginia was enjoyable. Dear Lucas drove the entire way. The car he drives is a stick shift, which I do not know how to drive. Yet. While in Virginia we visited D.C. and two of the Smithsonian museums. I thoroughly enjoy those museums, especially the American History one. We went out shopping a few times and went to see Avatar in Imax 3D with Libby. Luke also preached at Chester (where my father preaches regularly) both Sundays we were there. I'm glad he got to meet everyone there and that my family is getting to know him better. On Monday we drove back to Florida but on our way down we stopped at Emerson's house in Georgia. I'm so glad we did. Luke and I met his brother, father and highly talented mother :)

Today we had our engagement pictures taken. It is rather chilly here but today it was still very sunny - perfect for outdoor picture-taking. Kyle Brown was kind enough to take our pictures and we went to F.C., Lettuce Lake park and near a canal off of Harney. I can't wait to see how those turned out!

My break overall has been so very relaxing! The Moyers have been so kind to let me take over the guest bedroom and bathroom (again). School commences again next week. I think I'll be ready. At least I will be ready to see all my Sutton sisters again!

I've been reading through Acts for the past month or so and it is so very encouraging for evangelism. Wherever Paul goes, he is preaching and proclaiming Jesus and salvation through Him. What an amazing example for us! One of the most encouraging chapters is the disciples prayer for boldness after Peter and John were arrested and beaten and then continue to preach more fervently. Another example is when Paul is warned to not go to Jerusalem because of the persecution and dangers that awaited him , yet he went anyway and never lost his zeal for preaching Christ.

Favorite bumper sticker seen so far: America, bless God

Thankfulness list:
- winter
- knitting during the car trip (usually I can't do anything in the car)
- a new sewing machine and lots of kitchen utensils for Luke and I
- antique shops
- Christian hospitality
- books

love,
Sarah Jane

Yes, it is for credit, and it's on Monday's because they were working with the schedules of some who couldn't do it during the day. Darlene Walker is teaching it, said Lacy. I know you've played piano before and this is a beginner class, so were you asking out of interest? Or perhaps you know someone who would join?
I hope, because we just need one more person to keep the class!! :)

I am excited about getting back to Sutton and seeing my sisters too! It sounds like you had a lovely break.
I completely agree about Acts. It has several good examples. That kind of enthusiasm about spreading the word seems so scarce, but it is definitely something to strive for.

It was good to have you here in VA for a short while. We enjoyed having Luc stay with us, even though we saw very little of him, but like I told Mr. Del, he did not come to see us! It was a pleasure having him in our home. Hope 2nd semester goes well and good luck with all the wedding plans. See you at spring break.
    by betsys at 01/09/10 8:53PM

I can breathe :)

Finals went very well. I escaped my third semester of college with three A's and three B's which makes me rather happy!

Next semesters schedule looks a little like this:

MWF:
10:15am - Chapel
11am - Personal Finance (Yoho)
1pm - Liberal Arts Math (A. Hastings)
2pm - Old Testament Poetry (Moyer)
3pm - Spanish II (Madrigal)

TR:
10:15 - Chapel
11am - 1 Corinthians (Caldwell)

For extra cirricular activities I will still be a designer on the yearbook staff, a proud member of Arete, teaching the young girls Bible class at Cork with Luke, helping out with the musical (The Scarlet Pimpernel) and I'm sure many other miscelaneous activites!

Andrew and I have the same birthday. This year Disney World decided to let anyone come to visit the parks on their birthday for free. The last day of finals was mine and Andrews birthday and as luck would have it, neither of us had a final on that day. I'm sure you can see where this is going.... however, we had no way to get to Disney unless someone drove us and then payed full price for themselves (or stayed in the car in the parking lot - but we would not let them be subject to such torture). We eventually decided we would have to ask Luke to take us and since he is so wonderful, he agreed! :) So for mine and Andrew's 20th birthday we expierienced the joy and magic of Disney World! I had a wonderful time! We went to Epcot. It was my very first time at Epcot and only my second time at a Disney park. I enjoy Disney very much! :) I have decided to vote this my favorite birthday so far!

Another reason why this birthday is my favorite so far comes in the form of a surprise that I was not very happy about while it comenced. Here is my tale: I was sitting at a table in the library minding my own business and getting really frustrated over studying for the math final. Luke was there also and he excused himself for a little while (which I thought nothing about). During his absence, Justin Mock proceeds to walk up behind me and attempt to blindfold me. I would have none of it. I quickly tore off the bandanna but he kept trying and I became increasingly more annoyed and he later recalls that I yelled at him for blindfolding me while I was trying to text my mother. After he gave up trying to remove my sight, I see Andrew Yeater and Mary McDanal come up and proceed to take my stuff! It was in that moment I finally realized what was going on. Well, I would have none of it. I quickly walked out of the library (barefoot; they took my stuff!) and enter into the bathroom to try and plan my escape. While I was in there, I was actually using the restroom when I heard someone enter. Not realizing who it might be, I came out and was attacked by Liz Malloy! Before I was finally successfully blindfolded I was able to see Mary and Melanie at the door ready to escort me out. I believe the first words out of my mouth once I realized my imprisonment were, "I hate you"*. Yet I would still not cooperate. I sat on the floor and they scooted me out of the bathroom. Then I was layed on the concrete sidewalk while they figured out how to properly carry me into Luke's car. They finally got me into his car. Then I was recklessly driven to Dairy Queen (Melanie was kind enough to buckle me in). When we arrived, I was laying down in the passenger seat with still no resolve to cooperate with this evil scheme. However, Luke opened the door and lifted me up and proceeded to put my shoes back on my feet. I don't know what it is, but ever since Cinderella, there is something sweet and romantic about getting shoes put on your feet by your handsome prince. Anyways, I decided to comply with getting escorted inside Dairy Queen (I'm still blindfolded). Once inside, I was turned to face away from the counter and the scales fell off my eyes and I saw about 20 of my friends gathered and they began to sing "Happy Birthday" to me :) It was then I realized how selfish I was being. I was so thankful to see the faces of my friends. It got even better when Luke bought me an oreo blizzard and I sat down with him, Aaron Clayton, Stephen Rouse and Nathan Lankford. As it turns out, it was a great hour and a half spent not studying :)

*Please do not take these words seriously. I do not hate anyone, least of all my friends.

Thankfulness list:
- The Moyers for letting me stay at their home for Christmas
- Lucas for taking Andrew and I to Disney for our birthday
- Andrew for having the same birthday as me
- getting "happy birhtdays" from the wonderful staff at Epcot
- baking/decorating cookies with Mrs. Moyer
- Lucas for making us our own Arete jerseys since we didn't buy them
- My family for singing "Happy Birthday" to me over the phone and then hearing John in the background yelling, "I love you the most!"

I am going to enjoy this break! I hope you all have a wonderful break!

love,
Sarah Jane

Finals Week: dun. Dun. DUN.

Monday: Epistles and College Algebra
Tuesday: Study
Wednesday: Spanish and Marriage and Family
Thursday: DISNEY with Luke and Andrew!!!!

I have an epic story to tell about being kidnapped from the Library and taken to Dairy Queen against my will. But it will have to wait.

I'm not sure how I feel about ugly sweater day being the same as my birthday. Although Adam's chapel announcement was the best this whole semester.

Acts is amazing!!!

Go eat Christmas cookies, listen to George Winston's Carol of the Bells and write someone a Christmas card! If I was a therapist, this is what I would prescribe every day.
