Memorization of the Proverbs Complete!..... Somewhat.

As of last night, I completed my system of memorization with the final chapter of Proverbs. However, without 15 hours of menial labor every week, I have not been going through previous chapters very well at all (Read: Only a couple of times did I get around to it in the past month.). Because of that, I probably can't quote more than half of the chapters without reference. So, I think I'm going to go back through, and try some new techniques I've heard about that should help with getting the order of topics more securely in my memory, and hopefully the refresher will help me keep the word-for-word side down. We'll see.

The new technique sounds like it could be interesting to do, and from what I've heard, can be extremely effective when done properly. It's the sort of thing that is used in the United States Memory Championship for doing things like memorizing shuffled decks of playing cards, or hundreds of random numbers, or hundreds of strangers' faces matching them with their names, or poems, as fast as possible. However, it will take a bunch of practice to get good at it.

The video that I learned about it from is quite interesting, if you want to watch it. Just be aware that some of his examples of using the technique are crude, and he later has slides showing examples of said crude images, so you should skip 14:08-14:56, and probably the first two and a quarter minutes as well, if you prefer not to hear him just verbally describing things. The main issue is those areas also give some of the best idea of what is going on with the technique. You might be able to get a good enough idea without them though. Other than that, it is very intriguing.

Here's a link: Joshua Foer: Feats of memory anyone can do

I'm probably going to try to do some more research on it before I seriously start using it, so I can get a better idea of how to work with it. Hope you'll join me. =)

That was a very interesting video. I think working on that would be kinda cool. I've often been told I have a talent for memorizing things rather quickly. Music is very helpful with developing memory; like if I turn what I want to memorize into a song, or even if I just find a rhythm in what I'm memorizing, it gets much easier.

^ I've always found that (music/rhythm) to be true as well.
