So this weekend was Jesse's family reunion. It was loud, and hectic, and full of people that I do not know the names of. But for the most part, it was fun. I got to see most of the people I wanted to see, and actually managed to sleep when I needed to. They did a family baby shower for Lauren, which was great. I wish I could've recorded all the "ooh"ing and "ahh"ing whenever she opened anything particularly cute. (Which was most of it.) Despite my earlier protests, I actually did play in the family Scrabble tournament. Let me tell you, this family takes Scrabble VERY seriously. I usually get spanked so bad that it takes all the fun out of it. But this time, I won my first round. I even beat Mammaw, which is REALLY exciting, because she's a beast in Scrabble. I made it to the final game, but got trashed by Jesse's cousin Stephen. It was pretty fun, though.
We're having some issues with our old French landlord right now. Legally, he was supposed to return our saftey deposit to us within a month. We've been home for over a month now, and he hasn't returned it yet. We also found out today that he never got the electricity cut off, so the electric company charged us for another month's worth of electricity and that ended up overdrafting our French account. So we're going to have our friend Charlotte see what she can do. This landlord was always kind of a jerk. I think he feels like he can mess with us and cheat us because we're American, and no longer in the country. But he must not realize that Charlotte studied law and that if he tries to scam us, she will make him regret it. Lol.
I got hired with New York and Company! They called me on Wednesday night and told me that they wanted to make me an offer. I accepted, of course! I go in for training on Tuesday, but I'm not sure when they'll actually start scheduling me. Hopefully soon, and often. I need as many hours as they'll give me. They sort of schedule based on performance, so the better I do, the more hours I'll get. We're still praying that Jesse finds a job soon. He's had an interview with one place that we would love for him to get... full time, benefits, all that. But we know if this doesn't work out, that just means God has something else in mind. Still, we're hoping for something to happen soon, because we really just want to get on our feet financially.
Being back in America is so good. I've had a few grumpy moments, and I've had to remove some people on Facebook because I can't stand to watch their lives, but for the most part, it's been really nice. We love being back at Eastside and being around certain friends
. I'm trying not to let what goes on in other peoples lives bother me too much. Some people never change, and I have to just accept that. I'll get there eventually.
