Old friend

In the event that people still read updates to my blog I just wanted to update for what it's worth.

Recent thoughts:

Done with school and working full time... Busy like crazy and it is taking some getting used to.

Had a real rough spot there for awhile, my faith slipped back alot and I let it go idle for too long. Now, facing the fact that these things are important to me, I renewed my faith and focus one again. Praise God for Grace and his peace.

Yet I still am troubled by the diluted focus of brethren around me. I have observed and learned much in recent years which has set in me a discomfort and uneasy feeling about the effectiveness of the gospel in our hands. True, though the power of the gospel is great and all-sufficient in-of-itself, we are stewards and in many ways squander the power within it for the sake of a few issues.

I will not be specific since I feel this is at once a search which belongs to each of us individually. I do believe though that we should always be ready and eager to reexamine our attitudes and behavior in the service of Christ. Beware of the evils of the Pharisees, for we easily fall into the same traps as they did. Remember the warnings of Paul to Timothy, and let us hold fast to the truth. And finally, may we always hold in reverence the Holiness of the Father, his Son, and the Spirit. May our increasing knowledge of them never remove our humility and caution in how we speak of them.

May God bless and Keep you all, amen

*I don't have time to comment on anyone's blog today. However I saw your name highlighted and just had to read. Then upon reading, just had to reply. You are a child of the King, ergo important.

Well, well, well - it is nice to hear from you! Great that you are on track to what is important to not only you but to our Father as well.

We are responsible for ourselves and many times must 'put up with' what other's do. I believe you are right on target with the "evils of the Pharisees" comment.

Just do the best you can and learn from the past.

Hope your day is great! :-)

Brett, so glad to hear of your renewing of faith. I don't know if you remember me from FC - I used to be roommates with April...years ago.

Good post. I know i've said it but Its just SO wonderful that you're done with school! :) That must be a huge sign of relief.

Sorry about your rough spot but glad you worked through it!! We sure have to work hard to get our generation back on track...it scares me, too when I see the lack of stand for Truth and real Faith.

New Home, lots to do, and sickness.

We got the house, and are moved in!

Got it finally all moved in and are getting things organized and unpacked slowly. It feels good to know I probably won't have to do that for awhile. Moving is stressful. For everyone who doesn't know, we bought a duplex for a good price, and are living in one half and my in-laws are going to live in the other half and we're co-owning and paying the mortgage. This will make for some good bill-reduction and the plan is to pay off all revolving debt first followed by car and student loans.

The place is a nice one, not huge by any means but it is nice and has a garage, so organizing and storing things will be easier than before. We've already painted the bathrooms and replaced a few items to spruce up the place for the time being. I replaced most of the light fixtures which made a big difference. We're planning to paint the walls and maybe the ceilings (if we can get rid of the popcorn/cottage-cheese acoustic ceiling) and give it some charm. It was built in 1985 by a local contractor who built it right. I mentioned the mess the other side was in (roaches) and the inlaws have been busy more/less gutting it and plan to move in March when their current lease expires.

With school, work, and a move, it's not suprising that I got sick following the move, and stayed that way until this week. I am not sure what (all) i had, but it ranged from bad allergies, to bugs and such. It wasn't horrible, but i did (and still do) need rest.

Lots of stuff to finish in the next four weeks of school. Projects, projects, classes.... ah... can't wait till may when it will all be over.

Thanks for reading, leave a message.

sorry that you aren't feeling well but that is a great idea to live frugally and get rid of those bills! My sister in law is getting out of Pharmacy school as my brother is going into it..They are going to have major loans. My other brother so far has paid as he has gone. I was able to get a 4 year scholarship as long as I keep my grades up I am good to go!

I bet it is rewarding to fix up your own place and then step back and look at it.

What was, what is, what is yet to come.

For anyone who still reads my posts, so few and far between they have been, a little update on a night i couldn't get right to sleep.

My last semester of school got stretched out until spring because I'm needed at work quite a bit and the load at school was more than I could handle while working. I'm having to retake a couple core classes to improve GPA and such so, that is frustrating, but I really should have gotten better grades the first time through. This is how i pay for it.

We're trying to make our first mortgage purchase, yes a new house. Well, more like a duplex. We're going to live in one half and my inlaws will live in the other half and pay half of the mortgage. It's been a mess and a learning experience, but I've been told this one has been far easier than it typically is. We're still working out some final details before we can close. I can't wait.

My job has been fun, but stressful also, since there is pressure to get things going, and we have alot of problems to sort out to get into production. Doesn't make school any easier either.

Classes have been somewhat manageable, but I'm already behind and trying to catch up. It's not like I don't have a good excuse or several. Still, i'm ready to be done.

Married life is definitely good, sometimes more demanding of me than I realize, but it is worth it all.

My faith has been tested alot in it all. I really need more time in prayer.

If I really get through all of this school and these many problems, perhaps there is a glimmer of hope. Of course there will be more problems to face in the future.
As for today.
I'm going to bed.

Sounds like life to me. Just make sure to take you best swing while you are up to bat. That's all you can do.

Prayer is always good and always helps even if we don't understand God's answer. Believe it or not with your realistic and clear attitude, you have half the battle won already! Congratulations on your future mortgage! Keep on keepin' on.

That's why we have Heaven. If things were easy here, we would forget what we are really going through everything for. I've finally started acccepting that life is up and down and up and down..it never stays up or down for as long as we think.

Excited for you that the end of school is in sight!

appreciate the comments. still waiting on our house to close and maybe move in soon. pretty ridiculous that a few roaches classifies as 'unsanitary' to the fha inspector.
    by shamgar at 10/21/09 4:45PM
  • kailua
Yeah - roaches. Last May I took him and some friends out for his graduation dinner. While sitting in the restaurant a roach crawled right up the wall beside me. I took the cloth napkin and banged the wall. Said roach was still there, unharmed. I think he was even waving and making faces. So the next bang on the wall was extremely hard. I then threw the napkin to the floor. Only to find the roach squished on the wall! I called the manager over and said, "We have a situation here." I told him what happened and he thanked me for being the "Exterminator" He then took care of the bill and gave us all our meals for free! That was the cheapest bill I never did pay. :-)

Summer

Well, i'm nearly done with my summer class. It has been tough and alot of work. Hopefully after friday I will be done with Thermal Systems Analysis and Design for good. It is an interesting class, but is extremely challenging with this particular professor. The tests have been absurdly long for the time given to complete them. Nonetheless, one way or another i'll be done soon. With that class done, I'll have 12 hours to finish my degree this fall. I'll still be working at my current job through the semester. Please pray for me and my wife as we both have a stressful and busy fall semester ahead of us.

I just read the following form Associated Press on Comcast Homepage: An official autopsy report released Friday found that cocaine use contributed to the heart disease that suddenly killed TV pitchman Billy Mays in June, but his family called the finding "speculative" and was considering getting an independent look at the results.
    Sadness.
