I'm healing fairly well after my surgery. I still have alot of pain, I've already had my stitches out and it will be 4 weeks friday since i had it. I go back for a check up tomorrow and get a new cast, yippee skippy lol this heat is NOT good when you have a cast!

Info on my surgery, June 19th

Okay to cut down on having to answer the same questions over and over, here is all the info i have on my surgery..... I have a rare disease called Kienbock's Disease, and am having surgery on June 19th and will be staying overnight. You have two bones in your forearm, the Ulna (smaller bone) and the Radius (bigger bone). These bones are supposed to be level and mine are not. My Radius is longer then the Ulna, therefore it is putting pressure on a little wrist bone in the middle of the hand called the Lunate. This is causing it to loose blood flow and become weak and if left untreated, the lunate will die and collapse. There are 4 stages in this disease and I have Stage 2. The bone is basically half dead and mushy like a marshmallow.

So the plan is this.... I will go in on the 19th and they will give me some medicine to relax me so i wont remember anything and then they will put a catheter in my shoulder to numb my arm and keep it numb throughout the procedure and thru the night. Then they will open my arm up about 3-4 inches and take out 2-3mm of bone from my radius, to shorten it so it wont push on the lunate anymore and allow blood flow to return and it to heal. Then they will put a metal plate on the radius to hold it together while it heals. I'll be in a cast altogether about 7-8 weeks and then a brace for another 4-6 or something like that. He said it will take the Lunate bone about a year to heal and we wont really know how well it's fixed until then.

Kienbock's is rare and is only associated with the lunate bone. I hope this answers everyone's questions, if you have any others just ask....I

Wow, Samantha! I didn't know you had that going on. Let me know if you need anything. Don't forget, I'm close by. I'm sure all your recent education is helping you understand all those medical terms, huh? Where do you go for surgery?

I went to Fonderin Orthopedic in Houston for my surgery. The surgery went well. I'm doing good just hurting a lot still. Thanks for all the well wishes and thoughts and prayers!

So I'm having surgery....

Well, I found out what is wrong with my wrist. I have stage 2 Kienbock's Disease. It is very rare, so of course I have it lol My family always gets all the rare stuff.
My Lunate bone in my wrist has loss of blood flow, and is dying, becoming soft and if not corrected will collapse. It is do to an injury that happened about 5 years ago, where my hand was shut in a car door. One of the bones in my arm is about 2 mm too long and is pushing against the Lunate bone which is causing it to loose blood flow. So they are going to have to shorten that bone and repair the damaged blood vessels to the Lunate bone. There's no cure, but if they fix it and get blood flowing back to it then it can get better.
I go Thursday morning to set up the surgery and will get more information then....

Summer is Here!

Well I am now a 22 year old College Graduate! Graduation was so much fun and an amazing experience. I am so glad to be finished with my degree. I will start June 1st working at Dr. Shrum's office in Atascosita to work my internship. I worked for a little while today and had a blast, I'm really looking forward to it. I don't really like the thought of working for 10 weeks, 320 hours for free, but you gotta do what you gotta do.
Then this fall I'm going to take a course to become a certified Phlebotomist. Which is learning how to draw peoples blood, and do transfusions and whatnot. I'm really looking forward to that also. I will finish it in one semester.

My birthday was really good too. I went with my girl-friends and we got pedicures and then went to my Grandparents house for cake.

I went and saw Night at the Museum 2 last night and it was really cute! In case anyone is thinking of going to see it... well that's all I have for now...
