Requests

"...let your requests be made known unto God, and the peace of God, which passeth all understanding shall guard your hearts and thoughts in Jesus Christ our Lord." Philippians 4:6-7

I was just thinking about this, that the 'peace of God' comes upon us WHEN we make our requests - NOT when, or IF we're granted our request! It apparently doesn't matter what the request IS, or whether or not we'll actually get it - but that we're grateful for the blessings we do have, and that we ASK - BEG - PRAY for this THING..... or whatever is in our hearts that's been troubling us...."and the peace of God shall guard our heart" - maybe to begin the healing process of the pain of loss, separation, heartache, disappointment, regret, or sorrow....and to shield us from disappointment or heartbreak if the request is never granted! :)(Jeez...why would God EVer say no to us? we obviously know what we want, and what's good for us, right? :) AND for everyone around us, to boot!) ..."and our thoughts (or minds)"...perhaps to guard us from worry, from THINKING about it so much - from ANALYZING it to death, and trying to MAKE this thing happen WITH or WITHOUT His help.... He knows this about us, so he guards our minds by giving all this a REST...

I think we get peace from relinquishing control. By making our requests 'KNOWN to God' - as if He didn't already know - WE let go! Our minds can be at peace, because we know that if it is to be, it WILL be, because we've had our say - God KNOWS ... and God is GOOD - All the time... we know He listened, and we know HE CARES!

Absolutely-it truly is past all understanding since the world would have us believe that we must be in total control to have peace.

We've been married almost 34 years and I still really have to back my ears to play when Lonnie (or anyone else) is around.

I used to have a lot of trouble sleeping (sometimes still do) and people give all kinds of advice how to fall asleep. Nothing worked. Finally I just started lying down, closing my eyes and praying silently. Just talking to God about everything, letting my mind empty. I would wake up the next morning after a great night's sleep and realize I never made it to "amen". :)

2008

I know about three people out there. So, anyone else who may stumble upon this, I'm just smiling quietly to myself, moving on... into this new year... with gratitude, faith, love, and renewal. Those of you that I DO know, I pray for you, thank God for you, and find great happiness in knowing that you've been well, and that God is blessing you in your life.

I remember that book, and I know I read it and that it was funny, but I don't remember what conclusion she came to. I think that's what happens when you get old :)
