Facebook...

So I went on Facebook today and I have no friends anymore. They're all gone. Not sure how that happened... not too sure I'm interested in finding them all again. Maybe I'll just use Pleo from now on.

Lately

I have wanted to update my page for a while now. There is a lot that I would like to talk about, but I am not having the easiest time putting the thoughts together. So, for now, I’ll give you a few things to talk with me about...

1). Improv Everywhere - I heard about this while listening to NPR. My Favorites are this one and this one. It's great stuff.

2). National Public Radio - I am listening to it more and more. I got hooked by listening to "Wait Wait... Don't Tell Me!" For some reason I have forever thought of NPR as a horrible liberal radio station. I really enjoy it though. I was surprised to find that more of my friends listen to their programs than I had realized.

3). Dr. Laura - I have listened to Dr. Laura's radio show off and on for about 15 years. I think I was about 15 or 16 years old when I started listening. Truth be told, I have learned some great lessons over the years by listening to her insight. Although sometimes I think she is awesome, more and more I think she is a lunatic. I will tell you that many years ago I called her show with a problem and was shocked by how quickly she was able to get to the point of the issue. She was very nice to me and I enjoyed the call. That is, until she came to her solution to my problem. It was a shockingly vague and a somewhat immoral answer to my question. I think I stumped her... HA! Take that! The full story of the call won't be discussed on this website, but if we are close friends, feel free to ask me in person. Anyway... what are your thoughts on this entertainment personality? After listening to her for so many years, I would love to hear someone else's thoughts.

4). Facebook Reconnections - Ok, so here's the deal. For those of you who don't know me very well, I am a creature of habit that does not deal well with new people, old people I haven't seen in awhile, etc. I hate to say that because I value friendships more than just about anything else. So, I have recently made a ton of connections with former friends, schoolmates, girlfriends etc. on facebook. These connections have really made me look back on my life. Some of the conversations have reminded me of how much I fought to be a Christian in high school. I had forgotten how tough it was. Most of my family members were not Christians, and 99% of my peers were not either. I use Christian in the most watered down since of the word, meaning that they didn't have any moral backing in their lives. I suddenly, and without notice, moved four hours away from these people at the end of my junior year. Fast-forward to today, and almost all of my connections are with Christians. It's an extremely different life. I am happy to make these reconnections, but part of me has no clue how to interact with them anymore. Their language hasn't changed much, but their morals have. It's kind of strange. The strangest part is talking to them about old times and listening to them refer to me as "The Scaredy Cat" who wouldn't try this or that, and then listening to them talk about rehab and the struggles of trying to live a life without drugs and alcohol. I could have so easily been born in their circumstances. POINT IS... I don’t know the point. It's fun to reconnect, but it really gets me off track.

5). Mom - Mom's company did end up closing its doors. I was extremely worried for a while about how it would all pan out. She ended up starting school last week and I cannot tell you how proud I am of her. Sometimes the worst situations are the best springboards.

So that's it for now. I hope everyone has enjoyed their summer, if they had one. Everyone needs to hurry up and get their traveling over with because I am tired of not seeing you people.

I know what you mean about Facebook. It can be a blessing and a curse and sometimes the curses are bigger and louder. I think it can be used as a tool to get Christ's name out there, though, and maybe you can just think of it as that. If somebody gets profane, you have an opportunity to nicely and even somewhat lightly tell them who you are now and why. Just a thought.

    Enjoyed the reading here!

Why is pleonast telling me this is new? Oh, maybe it's subliminally telling me to remind you that it is indeed time for an update! :)

Weekend

This weekend was great.

Most of you have already read Josh's blog's about the weekend and my ability to make a fool of myself. He's a better storyteller, so I'll just leave all of that to him. I will say that Josh is a great friend and I'm glad he invited me. Andrea, Connor and Jessica came up to the cabin on Saturday and it was great to hang with them in a different setting than usual.

Everyone is always telling me that I should read more often. I think they are right. I like seeing people read. I think people who read are better off for doing so. So, Josh handed me a book this weekend and I got right to it. I don't know the name of the book, but it put me right to sleep. I think I will be reading before bed more often.

I led singing Sunday night for the first time in a long time. It felt great. However, I learned a few things yesterday about leading singing. 1st- Do not eat at Moe's before leading. A gassy stomach leaves little room for breath control. 2nd- Lead the versions of songs that people know.

I've re-written this last paragraph about 10 times. For now I'm just going to leave it at: I really appreciate my friends, I hope they know that, and I hope they don't mind me saying so.

Josh and AJ are awesome! I LOVE to read. Some weeks I go through 4-6 books. I love ebooks and audiobooks. You should try audiobooks. I've heard mixed reviews from nonreaders. Some love them and others think their "just as bad as books".

Audio books are great - especially as much as you drive. And yes, all three of your friends know you love us. Just as we love you. And the book was a louis lamour called Lando. It is a good book.

Louis Lamour, huh? Interesting choice to start out with, Steve. I would have thought of you more as a Dean Koontz kind of guy - mystery and suspense and all that. Or maybe...People magazine. :)

The netbook is technically Josh's for a trial basis so that he can decide if that is what he wants, or if he wants a new laptop instead. If he does want a new laptop, then this netbook becomes mine and he gets something else. If he likes this one, then I will use his old laptop until I decide if I want a new netbook also. Right now, it is only his in theory since he haa yet to use it!

Goblet of Fire (4th) was the worst! He had to ask me clarifying questions every 5 minutes! It's my least favorite of the movies out. So don't feel bad about pausing Prisoner of Azkaban (3rd) a lot b/c the next ones worst!

Hmmmm...

It’s weird how sometimes your closest friends can tell you something 100 times before you think they may just be right.

I'm hooked on Guitar Hero, specifically the drums. Josh, Andrea and I have formed a band. We rock, in a purely digital sort of way.

The fleas decided to wage war on my home. I won. 3,000 to 1.

Work has been INSANE. I love my job though.

I don't handle hot weather very well. I would never move back to southern California... but I miss believing 80 degrees was unbearable.

Michael Jackson's death and all of the "Remember Michael" shows has reminded me of watching MTV as a little kid. It was on 24/7 in our house. I loved watching Weird Al's versions of Michael’s videos.

I lost my wallet this week and completely freaked out. Spent about 4 hours searching, giving up, calling and cancelling cards, scheduling an appointment to get a new drivers license and finding all the necessary paperwork and ID's. The next morning I found my wallet on the floorboard of my car.
  • kimberlyharbaugh
I know the feeling with Guitar Hero, so addictive. I never thought I would like it since I can play a real one, but it's so cool! Stinks about cancelling all your cards..........that's life!

Why don't we listen to people?

Congrats on winning the war. That is definately a hard battle to win!

HATE hot weather. So ready for it to be cold!

When I loose stuff I get Jay to look for it. He always find my lost stuff. :o) You need a female version of Jay. lol Bummer you went to so much trouble canceling everything but at least you found it.

I just got Guitar hero world tour for 90.00 even, including tax, was that a good deal?

The whole thing, Devin found it on Amazon, and he even gets free shipping. Devin is the king of finding good deals on-line. Even though I am saving for The Beatles Rock Band, I thought I would go ahead and get it and not have to buy the whole bundle for Beatles rock band.

I am NOT eating anything from the river house. they would have to do surgery on me yet again if I ate that food.

Yep, Amazon. I am thinking this will be a pain.

Not yet, its been real busy with a crashed car, the holiday and yellow jackets. If I can get Devin to help me I hope to work on it today or tomorrow. Jim and I are having fun for now just doing guitar and bass together.

Great Weekend

This weekend was great. I started moving into my place in Temple Terrace. I have a few more boxes to move, but for the most part I am moved in now. It feels great to be back. I got a little tired of the long drive back and forth to Lutz.

Connor said my name yesterday. I didn't get to hear it, but everyone else did.

Josh has surgery tomorrow. I'm sure it will go well and I am glad he is almost done with all of this cancer junk. I’m really proud to have been able to see him endure this. He is a great example. Strange how someone can lift you up during their darkest moments.

I got to see Micah again yesterday, but I was not able to steal him from his grandparents. I will get to hold him one of these days.

Hope everyone else had a great weekend. I'm not looking forward to the hot weather ahead, but I am looking forward to an easier drive to work now that school is almost out.

  • kimberlyharbaugh
Hey, how long will Josh's surgery be? Glad you got to move closer! Hey, send me an email with all your new info so I can put it in the directory and if you want I can send it to Darlene for the next fam. report so everyone can update their little books.
