Official 1st Post :D (or declaration of my pensieve)
For awhile I have been inspired to start a kind of log book where I can right down my thoughts on certain biblical, philosophical, and theological issues. I started something similar back in 2003 when I was carrying on a discussion with a Jehovah Witness but family issues disrupted those enough that he stopped coming.
I figure not very many people will actually be looking at this blog since the only guy that I really know on here is Dr Corndog. But if anyone else reads it, I invite them to comment and join in the discussion.
I guess in case anyone does read this, I should do give out a little background information on me. I became a Christian in my bedroom one night in the spring of 2000. Simply started talking to Jesus and how wonderful it was. Besides the Bible, I guess my first real theological book that I read was C.S. Lewis' The Great Divorce. Then my senior year in high school, a guy at my church introduced me to the writings of Francis Schaeffer with the book How Shall We Then Live? which is a wonderful book. Anywho, I've read several of Schaeffer's books and some of C.S. Lewis' other books along with some Norman Geisler. I've taken almost all the Religion and Philosophy classes at my college.
While not too in-depth, it does show a little of where I am coming from with my thoughts. Of course, now thinking about it, I left out the two major influences on my thinking. First, God through the Holy Spirit who provides divine inspiration, and second, my Church family at both the Wayne County Bible Center and Johnson's Chapel are the two major influences.
I am going to end with a verse and a thought for the next post.
Judges 13:18 NIV
[The angel of the Lord] replied, "Why do you ask me my name? It is beyond understanding"
Some translation have the ending as "wonderful" instead of "beyond understanding" but the Hebrew can go either way. So it is so wonderful that it is incomprehensible. I love this verse because we have God hinting at the truth of the trinity.
Do we use the word "faith" in two different ways? Two examples:
I have faith in Jesus.
I have faith in the NY Giants to win.

Those are definitely two different uses. My faith in the Giants wouldn't be unwavering, 100% confidence. I sure wouldn't bet my life on them winning.
