Chairman of Joint Chiefs Stands Against Homosexuality & Adultery

This from FoxNews; the story is here:

'WASHINGTON — The chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff said Monday he considers homosexuality to be immoral and the military should not condone it by allowing gay personnel to serve openly, the Chicago Tribune reported.

Marine Gen. Peter Pace likened homosexuality to adultery, which he said was also immoral, the newspaper reported on its Web site.

"I do not believe the United States is well served by a policy that says it is OK to be immoral in any way," Pace told the newspaper in a wide-ranging interview.

Pace, a native of Brooklyn, N.Y., and a 1967 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, said he based his views on his upbringing....'

Gay advocate groups are calling for General Pace to apologize for his 'hateful' comments. We are not called to apologize for the commandments of God, or the calling to which we follow. 'For I am not ashamed of the gospel,' Paul wrote, 'for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, "But the righteous man shall live by faith."' (Rom. 1:16-17, NAS)
We need to stand up and declare that we won't back down. There is a war waging, and our side has been silent far too long. Left-wing led media in print and television have diseased our way of thinking and sewn our lips shut with 'religious tolerance.' As I heard a preacher once say, "Tolerance is not me accepting you for who you are. Tolerance is me not killing you for what you do." We are to love gays and lesbians, just as we love our friends and family. We are all sinners, and all of us need the grace and salvation of God through Christ. Let us speak out, correct the wrong and educate the ignorant. Let the words of Christ be the salve on the hardened hearts, softening them to the clay the potter can mold. I love the passage in Jeremiah 18:

'The word which came to Jeremiah from the Lord saying, "Arise and go down to the potter's house, and there I shall announce My words to you." Then I went down to the potter's house, and there he was, making something on the wheel. But the vessel that he was making of clay was spoiled in the hand of the potter; so he remade it into another vessel, as it pleased the potter to make. Then the word of the Lord came to me saying, "Can I not, O house of Israel, deal with you as this potter does?" declares the Lord. "Behold, like the clay in the potter's hand, so are you in My hand, O house of Israel."' (Jer. 18:1-6, NAS)
We all have been remade in the hands of the potter. Let us not forget He shapes us into what pleases Him.
Here is the website for the Joint Chiefs of Staff, specifically the Chairman's page. Drop him an email telling him how you support what he stands for, and give him reasons to back his claims. I already have, and even if he doesn't receive it, perhaps someone in his staff will read it and be strengthened or at least made curious and want to explore more. In the famed lines of Galaxy Quest: "Never give up! Never surrender!" With the faith of a mustard seed we can pick up mountains and throw them into the depths of the ocean.

Simply believe, and you will achieve.
God bless you all. †

Et unam, sanctam, cathólicam et apostólicam Ecclésiam.
Confíteor unum baptísma in remissiónem peccatorum.
Et expecto resurrectionem mortuorum,
et vitam ventúri sæculi. Amen.

    I wouldn't use Romans as a proof text for te context you've created. The gospel is hardly equivalent to condemning homosexuality. It is the good news that Jesus is now king of the world, and that it is the power of salvation to everyone, including people who are living an immoral life. It is the good news that they can now be free from that slavery.

    Ironically, the Joint Chiefs of Staff represents one of the principalities and powers that that Jesus' Kingship overthrows.

    Very true. And I also agree that the passage I used in Romans doesn't condemn homosexuality but promotes the gift of grace, but I argue that in order to promote change in a life one must take stands; albeit most people use their own moral judgment for their stand on issues, but we as Christians have one who has stated His will, and in it comes the freedom from lives of sin--which I would argue promotes the codemnation of sin, not the sinner. Does that make sense?

A Challenge

Or perhaps, an opportunity.
View it as you will, but yet it stands:

See if you can pray for a solid six minutes today. Set the timer on the microwave, or your alarm clock, but don't pay attention to the time passing. See if you can stay focused, and spill your heart to the Lord. Tell Him what's on your mind, what things are bothering you, what things you're happy and thankful about, what things you look forwards to, what things you want to see accomplished...whatever. Come and share what happens; I think you'll be surprised ex post facto.

Praised be God, almighty Father;
Praised be Christ, his Son, our Lord;
Praised be God the Holy Spirit;
Triune Godhead, be adored!
Amen.

Apostles and Verses

Today is a bit of a free-for-all...a Thanksgiving dinner of information: lil' of this, lil' of that. Don't let this diminish any of the meat I provide below; it's all substantial, though not as lengthy as some other material. ;)

The Apostles were an incredible group of men, a selection across the wide diversity of Jewish men in the Mediterranean region. Some were educated; most were not. Some were well-to-do; most lived with humble means. Some were married; some were not. Some were young; some were old. All had some knowledge of the Old Law, and some considered themselves devout. All of these characteristics disappeared when they met one Jesus of Nazareth. Of all the apostles, I believe I relate best to Peter. He's quick to speak, though not often to think, and the Lord lovingly chides him with humility and wisdom. As Peter saw the miraculous power in Jesus' words to lower the net, he realized who he was in the presence of and exclaimed "Go away from me Lord, for I am a sinful man!" (Luke 5:8). Many books have been written (and are continually being written) concerning the apostles; I haven't read any particularly, but if anyone has recommendations, I would greatly appreciate those; I've been told Twelve Ordinary Men is a great book for study. What we do know of the apostles is this: Jesus knew each man's heart and knew they would be able to endure the trials and heartache invovled with the calling He would give to each, including Judas (I Cor. 10:13). We'll have the Judas discussion later. ;) As such, the apostles were witness to the greatness bestowed upon the world through God's amazing hand in the life of one Jesus of Nazareth, finally understood the meaning of Christ's preaching on the approaching 'kingdom' after the ascention (Acts 1:16-17,21-22; 2:2-4), and went out preaching the gospel despite the warnings of the ruling Jewish officials and persecution threatened upon them and their families. Seeing this, we know:

- the apostles were witnesses to Jesus Christ: I Jhn. 1:1-4; I Cor. 15:1-9; Gal. 1:11-24
- the apostles bore the power of the Holy Spirit: II Cor. 12:12; Luke 10:19-20; Acts 2:43
- the apostles bore the authority of God: Matt. 16:19; Eph. 2:20; I Cor. 14:37; Gal. 1:1

It's also interesting to note that the apostles were divided into three groups of four, with the head of each group being Peter, Philip and James the Less. It's also interesting to see that Jesus kept James and John (the brothers) together; you think He'd split them up, since they seemed to feed off of each other rather well (Luke 9:54 - I love that passage).

Now for something completely different: I have a collection of verses--odds and ends--that I'll bring up now and again...little things I'd like to share from the scriptures. Here are a few:

- in Zechariah 3:1-10, we are presented with a 'courtroom' scene, with God presiding over the court as judge
- Deut. 29:29 - the secret things belong to God ;)
- in Isaiah 14:4-21, the Lord is lamenting over casting Lucifer from heaven
- Psalm 29 - behold the power of the voice of God!

Praised be God, almighty Father;
Praised be Christ, his Son, our Lord;
Praised be God the Holy Spirit;
Triune Godhead, be adored!
Amen.

Change

"I haven't been ill," Caesar Caligula said to Claudius. "I'm simply undergoing a change. It's the most momentous transformation that any human being has ever achieved. A prophecy is about to be fulfilled. I am being - reborn."

A metamorphosis of the inner man--from that of the flesh to the spirit. A renewing of the mind, shaped by the handiwork of attitude, directed by the compass of Jehovah. Nicodemus found this idea of a rebirth difficult to understand when he approached Jesus in the middle of the night. Jesus told him he must be reborn if he would see the kingdom of God; to this Nicodemus replied, 'How can a man be born when he is old? He cannot enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born, can he?'

'Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of God,'
Jesus replied. He continued: 'That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not be amazed that I said to you, 'You must be born again.' The wind blows where it wishes and you hear the sound of it, but do not know where it comes from and where it is going; so is everyone who is born of the Spirit.' (Jhn. 3:3-8)
We are new creatures, a living testimony of that which God can manifest in the corpse of sin-ridden flesh. As the caterpillar morphs within the confines of its cocoon to emerge a beautiful butterfly transformed by God's power in nature, so we also morph within the blood of Christ to a new man. The power of His blood both cleanses and transforms, renewing the covenant made between God and man when the foundations of creation were laid at Eden. The sheer awesomeness of this power--this gift of love from our Passover lamb--caused Peter to cry:

'Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to obtain an inheritance which is imperishable and undefiled and will not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, who are protected by the power of God through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.' (I Pet. 1:3-5)
Glory, honor, adoration
Let us sing with one accord!
Praised be God, almighty Father;
Praised be Christ, his Son, our Lord;
Praised be God the Holy Spirit;
Triune Godhead, be adored!
Amen.
