Thank you Rachel! You are sweet to mention Danny and me.

I'm looking forward to seeing Jesse and April this morning. You and Clint come on down! You can tell Clint there isn't an icee machine so he won't have to go on secret missions for Danny. :)

Just wanted to recommend a book to anyone interested. I used a book called Wisdom and the Millers this year as part of Elijah's homeschool studies. It's about an Amish family studying the Proverbs. They take a verse and explain in a way for children to understand the lesson. Elijah just loved it and I found so many ways to apply the lessons to help Elijah with day to day things. Some of the chapters are better than others. A couple I really had to reword and change, for example: there is one about the sin of riding a three wheeler.
If anyone knows of any similiar books they could recommend please let me know. I'm looking for books that use scripture to teach character building lessons.
  • smiley_beth
I chuckled a little at the sin of riding a three wheeler. Sounds like a great book though. We decided to go with My Father's World for next year. I am excited about it.

This is not a book but they are like flashcards of character traits (8x10 size). We are using them in our 3-4 year old bible class and matching them to the lesson we are studying and the kids really like them. I can tell at home that Grace is applying them (well sometimes).

There's a book called Biblical Womanhood in the Home, edited by Nancy Leigh DeMoss, which I thought was a very good book for having been written by denominational people.

Love Life for Every Married Couple by Ed Wheat was a great book....I read it right before B and I got married...we both read it actually (it's a great book to read as a couple since it speaks to both man and wife).

I am absolutely sold on the book called Love and Respect by Dr. Emerson Eggerichs. It has helped me be such a better wife.

training up a child by gwendolyn webb (talks primarily about raising children, but she has a chapter dedicated to being a wife, and weaves those thoughts throughout the book). very old-fashioned, but that's why i love it!

The other day our preacher did an excellent sermon on being fishers of men. He kept up the analogy of fishing with spreading the gospel. I looked down at Elijah and smiled thinking he must really be enjoying this sermon with all the fishing references. Instead he looked up at me very concerned and whispered, "Why is he talking about fishing when he is suppose to be talking about God!" I tried to explain the whole analogy thing on the way home to which he just replied, "I don't get it." Ahhh, I love that kid!
  • split_rock
But at least he KNEW the sermon was supposed to be about God!! Good for him!
