There is a possibility that I'll be renting out my house to some people that want to start moving in sometime in mid-december. I might be going up there for an extended weekend of cleaning my house out and putting stuff in storage. I don't think anybody will see me for very long on this trip, if at all.

Oops

Today I was at a meeting with one of my customers, talking to their management team about their IT strategy for the next couple of years. At the beginning of the meeting their CIO went through a quick presentation about his planning philosophy. To get across the idea that it's OK to make some mistakes and modify your plans as you go, he showed a slide that said:

"Albert Einstein failed over 100 times before he got the light bulb right."

I don't know if he was just being funny in an ironic kind of way, or if he was being ignorant in an ironic kind of way. In any case, I had to suppress a chuckle. Beginning the meeting by laughing at my customer probably would have been really bad form...
  • aschlosser
That is hilarious - did he mention that he was trying to be ironic? If not, I think you know the answer. It would have been very hard to keep a straight face.

    um. WOW.
    by buttermilk at 11/07/07 11:44PM
  • quo_iure
Nobody else at the table cracked a smile. He actually read that portion of the slide and didn't even smirk. It couldn't have been intentional. If it was intentional, he needs to work on his delivery.
    by quo_iure at 11/08/07 8:18AM
  • trx
Maybe he was talking about black body radiation and the photoelectric effect (both very much related to the incandescent light bulb), which Einstein worked on for a long time before his work on relativity, and for which he received a Nobel prize in Physics. No need to be snarky :)
    by trx at 11/08/07 11:30AM

Good

Good friends, good food, good times. Now if only the team I randomly chose to cheer for could get back to their winning ways...

  • quo_iure
I don't think "pulling" is the right word. "Gently tugging" might be a better description. I have no real reason to support either team.

Both of you make excellent points. So, just to be contrarian, I'm now a hardcore Rockies fan. Unless being "hardcore" requires an actual knowledge of the team. For instance, learning the name of at least one player. If I have to put forth that much effort, I'll probably stop being hardcore.

Hey! I just saw your story below about getting up and getting ready at 2:20 thinking it was 4:20. I used to do that frequently! When we would lose power my alarm setting would set itself for 12:00am. I would forget to reset the time and just flip it to alarm. I would get up and shower and start getting ready thinking I must be reading my clock wrong. After the shower I would usually check another clock realize my mistake and go back to bed. But the funny thing was I did this tons of times! Michaiah witnessed it several times when were roommates. You'd think I'd learn!

More Ron Paul, if you can bear it...

I've begun a series of posts about Ron Paul over on my other blog. I'll post updated links to the series here:

1) An introduction to Ron Paul's policy platform.
2) Ron Paul on Debt and Taxes.
3) Ron Paul on American Independence and Sovereignty.
4) Ron Paul on War and Foreign Policy.
5) Ron Paul on Life and Liberty.
6) Ron Paul on the Second Amendment.

Feel free to debate me there. Or here. Just be civil, no matter which side of the debate you come down on.
