Hello Pleo!! My life says pretty busy. I spend most of my time now feeding people and cleaning behinds. When I was a kid and people asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up, that never came to mind, lol. But here I am and I am so blessed with my not so little family. ;) Thought you all would enjoy this pic. :)
Hello everyone! As most of you know, the twins are here. They were born Dec. 5. First came Rosalie Jean, who was 5 lbs 8 oz and 18 inches long. Next was Owen Carter, who was 6 lbs even and 19 inches long. They were born 1 min apart. I did end up having a c-section since Owen decided he wasn't going to turn. The doc said it would be the safest on everyone. I'll will have to admit that having a c-section is one of the weirdest things I've every felt and I'm glad I was so sleepy that I didn't have time to think about what was going on. A little on the freaky side.
Shortly after birth it became apparent that Owen wasn't breathing right. Rosalie wasn't having any problems and even nursed right after I was moved to recovery. When Owen's breathing didn't get any better after we were moved to the room he was taken to the nursery to be evaluated then was taken to the NICU. It all happened really fast. He was put on oxygen. He couldn't eat or anything because it was taking his little body all it's energy just to breath. We knew that sometimes babies who are born thru a c-section don't have the fluid drained off their lungs but when a baby doesn't turn and is born breech it can also mess with their oxygen levels. Sort of 6 one way, half a dozen the other. :(
After being in the NICU for a couple of days his breathing got better but he started having issuses with eating. Turned out that the valve that goes between stomach and esophagus wasn't developed enough. Instead of closing off after he ate it stayed open so everything on his stomach would just come back up. He lost weight after birth, which is normal but he gained some then started to lose again, which isn't good. His body just wasn't getting enough food to grow. While this was going on, they also discovered that he had a heart murmur. Plus when the food that he ate started coming back up he would start having problems with his breathing and heart rate again. It was a stressful few days in which a lot of crying was done on my part. I couldn't go see him the first several days without breaking down. Being in pain from the c-section didn't help matters. Most days I only got to see him one or two times. Mean while, Rose was developing just as she should. She was a blessing in disguise, I'm not sure how I'd handled what was going on with Owen if it hadn't been for the need to take care of her also.
The NICU docs and nurses played around with Owen's food and after a few tries found something that would stay on his little tummy enough for him to grow again. I had planned on nursing both but the breast milk just wouldn't stay on his belly. Even after mixing it with rice starch, it would come back up. But they found a half and half worked for him. He also had a cardiologist come and do a test on him. The type of murmur he has is one that the majority of babies how have grow out of in the first 3 months of life. Owen will go back to the doc at 6 months to check and see if it's gone. His oxygen levels went up and he started to look good. They moved him out of the NICU and into a Continuing Care Unit. That was the day I was discharged. It was hard leaving him there and the rest of us going home. That night, his temp dropped. His little body had been working so hard that it couldn't take care of everything at once. He had to be placed in an incubator to regulate his temp. He was in that for a couple of days, then had to keep his temp up on his own for 48 hours before he was released.
All in all, me and Rosalie were in the hospital 5 days and Owen was in there 9. We are all home now, with me and Brandon being sleep deprived. The twin's doctor said not to take the twins around groups of people for 4-6 weeks. It made Christmas a little hard this year but their health is worth it. Owen has to go for an ultrasound on his hips next week. It's standard for babies born breech. I can't believe they are already 3 weeks old. We are having computer problems so I don't have very good pics to share yet. Just what I gave on my iPhone. I hope we can get a new computer when taxes come in. Here's hoping anyway.
Happy New Year everyone!!
Was back at the OB's today and the babies had their measurements taken. Little Mister is at 5 lbs 8 oz and Little Miss is at 5 lbs 6 oz. She's catching back up. ;) I hadn't dilated anymore since my last visit but the doc said that at the point I'm at, I could go anytime. Now all I have to do is sit and wait to find out when that is.

Happy Thanksgiving to all you wonderful Pleo people out there! Hope you all have a great holiday weekend. I plan on doing so! I'm looking forward to spend time with family. Not sure how I'll do with the diabetes tomorrow, I'll just try to be careful.
Pertaining to my last entree, we decided to schedule a c-section. They have me on the books for Dec. 21. My doc don't think I'll make it that long but they have a policy about when they schedule. After talking to another of the doctors were I go, I'm pretty sure we made the right choice. If Little Mister does decide to turn before the c-section, I can still make the choice to try and deliver naturally but while he is breach, this is the best way to go.
