The Princess Bride: Doubt then Faith and Love all around. Part 1
When the Princess Bride made it's box office debut it was a bust. If you've seen the trailer the studio used for advertising, you are a long way toward understanding why it flopped in the theater. But then something happened. The advent of VHS saw an ever increasing popularity in the movie because the movie wasn't bad it was just unknown. In fact, The princess Bride is a wonderfully told story. The failure was not on the part of the Movie's execution but a failure of the studio to understand how to market it. The Movie's appeal is in the superlative archetypal characters and the story of a hero's love refined by overwhelming obstacles.

I clearly CLEARLY remember my parents renting the VHS and the family sitting down to watch it together. I had never heard of it...but for weeks later I was still saying, "My name is Jessi Collier. You killed my father. Prepare to DIE!" and then lunging at Josh with fake sword in hand. -
I too came to love this movie through vhs. :) -
Good post!
