Ruh-duh-duh-dut

Well, things remain the same. It is the inevitable progression I suppose. Only when things progress to a certain point one wonders whether or not change is necessary or beneficial. But it usually is. And typically nothing else will suffice (in the long run anyways).

It doesn't seem like it would be such a bad thing to turn to a pillar of smoke and smite those who would trap you in a place (of mind or body) you did not want to be.

If we really loved the Lord will all of our heart, soul, and mind we would probably come together for the better instead of the worse.

Empathize, sympathize / criticize, politicize, demonize.

I am weary of nothing. Or everything. It depends on how you look at it I suppose.

    Blah blah blah - you sound like a postmodern angst-ridden teenager making desparate cry for attention disguised as an introspective statement of profundity. Get over yourself.

    Todd- that "turn to a pillar of smoke" comment was especially for you as a reference to a particular show we both enjoy. I'm surprised you didn't catch it!

    Brady- After I read it I thought the exact same thing! haha

    Whoops! I'm surprised too. Naturally my brain wouldn't dwell on inconsequential entertainment when it's the topic of discussion - only when important matters are at hand do I lose myself in fantasy.

Confusing to me...

Here's a serious question that I would like your input on;

Why would a person desire to be identified (or remain identified) with a congregation that they have no interest in assembling or working with?

Why would such an individual even care if a congregation were considering withdrawing from them when they refuse to take part in the congregation at all?

I'd love some insight into that one, so have at it.
  • plato
    Just as an aside- If I were not assembling with a congregation, I would simply remove my membership from them. (I am speaking as one who was not interested in serving the Lord anyways.)

    It is the Lord that adds and the Lord that taketh away. But a person may want to if they believe that the the church of Christ is the "one true church"; then perhaps they have have the false impression that if they hold some "membership" at that local church then they will go to heaven.

    I don't know the family situation, but it may be to keep up appearances there as well.

    It is a curious situation, and seems like 90% an individual would just leave on their own.

  • aleta
    Because they treat it like membership to the Y? They hate to exercise, but someday they might and so they better hold on to the membership??? I'm clueless as to why people don't want to partake of the blessings in worshiping the Lord.
    by aleta at 03/08/10 10:13AM
  • zabdi
    How do you simply remove your membership? Is there any example of that in the Bible? It seems to me that in the Bible you either do what you are supposed to or the church disciplines you. I have heard people say, "well that person already withdrew themself", but my question is that even possible? Is the church still not responsible to discipline that person?

    There's lots of spheres of accountability to be considered. Our responsibility to God, each other, and for ourself. God is the true measure of faithfulness in all situations but we do have responsibility to each other and ourselves. In exploring those two spheres one must answer a few questions:

    Am I responsible to instruct and care for all the Christians I know or just the Christians I assemble with?

    What do we learn about how Paul and others instructed and discplined each other?

    I understand the questions you've asked though. It would seem odd to me that someone would seek to be identified in a group if they were unwilling to be committed to it (church, YMCA, or otherwise).

    I have a feeling that these questions were rhetorical and think you probably already have an understand about how illogical people are especially in spiritual matters.

    My guess is that preacherdavetx is right. They think that they're saved because they're a member in a local group that calls itself a church of Christ.

    After all, I've certainly heard plenty of preachers teach as much.

    But is it torture? The pup had his eye on the prize the whole time! The slobbering and squeals of anticipation would be uproariously mean on our parts, for sure. But the mutt happily claimed his reward!

Words of disappointment.

To those of you who voted in the Republican primaries for Debra Medina;

Thank you for your stand against the mainstream media, compromise, and tyranny. If there is any hope for this country- no, if there is any hope for our families and our freedom, it lies with you.

To those of you who voted in the Republican primaries for Perry or Hutchinson;

Your lack of open mindedness and/or courage have caused you to do exactly what has brought this nation to its knees politically and morally. Your compromise has allowed freedom to remain out of reach for at least a little while longer.

To those of you who didn't vote at all;

I would rather all behave like you than for any to cast a vote that they did not believe in and/or contributed to my oppression. Your vote is an endorsement. If you one day decide to vote, I hope you will vote on principle and never compromise your "seal of approval."

To those of you who don't live in Texas;

Where do you live? What is your tax rate like? Are the people there freedom minded? Are the people armed? Are there homes available?
  • outrank17
    I don't reside in the state of Texas. Usually I'm living in a state of denial.

    Rome wasn't built in a day. 19% would have been inconceivable four or six years ago and is a high enough percentage to fight an effective revolution. Freedom is in reach, but may come after the dissolution of the USA (I hope not!).
    Many conservitives are sidetracked by the drums of fear (Fox news) and it will take time to reach them.

    I believe that Alaska has a pretty libertarian way of looking at things, too. The wife and I spent a week in Anchorage one time, and I tried to get her to just move on up there with me for a few years. She wouldn't do it because it was too far from the grandkids.

    I didn't vote at all because I got stuck at work. I may actually vote for Bill White in the fall. He isn't especially liberal, but is a businessman who knows how to run things in a logical and responsible way, and Houston did well in his term as mayor.

    I do not understand why we don't have term limits for the Texas Governor. It wasn't that long ago that the Governor served a two-year term. If we would go back to that, they wouldn't be able to spend so much time campaigning.

    I will definately consider White, but have already heard about the Obama echo of "change" associated with him.

Primaries are tomorrow...

I realize that most of you probably do not vote in the Republican primaries, but please check out Debra Medina before you decide not to this year!

Tomorrow (Tuesday) is the day.

Take advantage of having a freedom candidate on the ticket!

    Hey bro, came through Nac on Friday and Sunday... almost gave you a call to stop and say hi. But I was headed to Mt. Pleasant and had to be there at a certain time for dinner. And, I preached at 2:30 Sunday to finish the meeting, so I was coming through Nac. at about 6:30 that night and figured you were occupied at the moment. Hope all is well. Congrats on the upcoming new addition... kids are amazing!

Wow...

Baby furniture is expensive. Giving birth is expensive.

But I guess a baby is priceless.

That still doesn't help me to deal with the expenses!

    Don't even try to think about the next 18 years. God has an amazing way of taking care of things if we do our best
    and don't worry. I was reminded of this by my 8 year old granddaughter when I said I was worried about something
    this past weekend. She said I should read my Bible because God says not to worry.
