My friend Gina who was battling cancer passed away on Sunday. She leaves behind her husband and a 5 year old daughter and an 8 year old son. Please keep them in your prayers.

Addie did end up spending 4 nights in the hospital last week trying to get to the bottom of her lack of eating/growing issue. Once again I am so frustrated! Addie has been out of the hospital for a week and I feel like we should be right back there some days! When she came home she had gained quite a few ounces while we were in the hospital. She had an MRI…neuro consult…feeding evaluation and a bunch of blood work and they said there was nothing wrong with her. She came home eating usually 3.5 and sometimes 4 ounces at a feeding. Now…a week later she is back to barely gaining. I was told by the nutritionist that she needed 400 calories per day to gain at the normal rate…she has had over 400 calories each day and yet she is barely gaining. She is supposed to gain an ounce a day yet over the last two days she only gained .16 of an ounce…not even a quarter of an ounce!!! I am constantly shoving a bottle in this babies mouth and lately she’s eating less and less. I am so frustrated. Not so much worried anymore because it doesn’t appear there is anything wrong with her…but frustrated because I am sick of going back and forth to get her weighed and sick of having to worry about when she ate last and how much will she eat now. I want to just have her cry…feed her and know it’s enough for her to be growing. The dr has said she looks good but she can’t stay this size forever!!! So now I have to call the GI back and see if he will see her again sooner. I really wish they would have done the upper GI before we had left the hospital but I felt like a lunatic insisting they do it…so I didn’t. aagghhh!!!!!!!

Addie was not admitted...my Dr was able instead to get us in to see a GI dr and I got her a physical therapy evalluation too. She had the PT evaluation first thing yesterday morning and that went well. The therapist said that her muscle tone was on the low side of normal…which was good to hear. She said she saw nothing of concern. Addie will start going to see her once a week and she showed me some things to do with her at home to help her as well.

From there we went to see the gastro. He has upped her Zantac to 1ML twice a day. He has ordered an Upper GI and also an evaluation with the feeding therapist. I have her Upper GI scheduled for Thursday and have a message with the feeding therapist to also schedule that evaluation next week before we go back to see him on Friday. He said for now my goal is to get either 11 or 12 ounces in her as a minimum…can’t remember which one it was so I am shooting for 12.

That covers it for now. Hope to get her neuro evaluation also scheduled today.

So today was the 2 month check up for my twins. Nate did just fine...he's not 10lb5oz and growing well. His sister on the other hand not so good. She is only up to 7lb9oz and that is with a lot of work on our part. When she gets breast milk in a bottle I have to add formula to it so she gets extra calories...when she gets a formula bottle I also add extra calories to that. She also has very poor muscle tone. The only thing keeping me from completely flipping out is that she is hitting milestones...she smiles...she tracks things...she is vocal...all those things are fine. she is just flopping and not gaining the weight she needs to.

So today I took her for blood work and tomorrow there is a good chance the pediatrician is going to have her admitted to the children's hospital to get to the bottom of things. This way...instead of waiting for weeks to get in to see the neurologist she will see one tomorrow...and the same thing with the gastro dr. I think this is the best course but it is obviously disconcerting to have to do this. Please keep her in your prayers that they get to the bottom of this soon and that it is nothing serious.
