Here's my post on making french bread. I made it quite a while ago and was planning to post about it and never did. Now, I can't even eat french bread because the Glycemic Index is horribly high, but since I said it was coming, here it is:
First you combine the yeast mixture and let it "proof":
Then you mix in the flour and knead the dough:
Next you shape it into desired french-bready shapes:
Then you let it rise:
Finally you bake and it eat...that is if you aren't on a low-GI diet...
After a whole bunch of talk about six inches of snow, we actually got an 1-1/2 or 2 inches. But, HEY, it made me happy to get that much!!!
Last night we went sledding with Sarah
and Steven! We had fun!! Thanks, Sarah, for the use of your sled, we'll have to get one of our own for next time. :-)
This morning, Jacob and me went out and played in the snow a little. First, we got on the little sleds that Jacob's mom gave him. I'm afraid we are a little too big....but it was still fun!!
Then we got out our skis. We're trying to get our "skiing legs" under us because we are going on a ski trip to Colorado next week. We're excited!!!
Have a good weekend!!!
Does anyone know of something fun to do in Chicago? I'm going on a business trip with Jacob this week so we're looking for something fun to do. Or better yet, some place fun to eat...
Picture on the way to church:
We had SO MUCH FUN!! I highly recommend it! It was so neat to go on a quick overnight get-away. We took the audio tour when we got there and it was really good. It was well worth the extra money to get more information at your own pace. This house is truly amazing. It has 250 rooms on 4 acres of floor space. It even has an indoor swimming pool and a bowling alley.
Unfortunately photography is not allowed inside the house, but here are a few pictures from the trip.
We took a "Rooftop Tour" on Saturday and were able to see some of the unrestored rooms on the way up the steep narrow stairs. There are elevators in the house, but I don't think they let everyone ride them, although we were lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time once and got to ride in one
And yes, we did check out the McDonald's across from the Biltmore Estate. SO COOL! There was a player piano, a fireplace, and a fancy ceiling there. And YES, they still had the dollar menu...
Believe it or not, Gayle
, we did actually get a room with a bed so we did not have to sleep in a chair in the lobby after all. (-: Here's a picture of Jacob in the room for proof:
We took a walk on the grounds on Saturday after going through the house again. Jacob did not marry a hiker. I moaned the whole way back, but it was a BEAUTIFUL day. We walked down to a waterfall and on little trails to the Gardens and the Bass Pond.
Of course, no trip anywhere is complete without stopping at Olive Garden so we did that on the way home in Cookeville. We had a great trip! And we even got an extra hour of sleep!
And since you haven't seen enough pictures of us... Here's one from Sunday...
Jacob is taking me to the Biltmore House in North Carolina this weekend. I'm so excited. What I am currently more excited about is Priceline.com. It is the way to go.... We got a 3 1/2 star hotel regularly priced at 199.00 for 79.00! I never thought it would take that price, but it did. WooHoo!!!
French bread making post to follow...
