Bible Songs

I'm working on putting together a complete book of bible songs for the kids at services. I'm pulling from every source I can find so let's hear it. What are your top 5 favorite songs to sing with the kids?

Mine are: 1. The Little Red Box
2. Higher Ground (Dale's version)
3. The Lord Liveth
4. God Made Me
5. Wrapped Up, Tied Up (This Little Light of Mine)

That's so funny ... Paul and I have been working on one for a long time ... not much has come of it though. I have some books (I think you may have given me one)

Classics of course - Jesus Loves Me and Jesus loves the little children.

The boys are enjoying "There's a boat on the sea of Galilee" at the moment...they like to see the adults mess up the hand motions:)

Lord's Army song is a classic too.
    My God is so BIG

Well, that's 5 but I have many more!!!!!!!!!!

Doesn't Serena have a big book of kids songs?

I have 2 or 3 books; I'll look through them. Any particular types of songs (motions, just words, etc.)?

We have most of the old favorites and a lot that Dale taught us when he was here. But any songs with motions are good for the kids.

Blast From the Past

A few weeks ago, we sat down as a family to watch TV and The Karate Kid was on. I remember seeing that as a kid, so I thought my kids would enjoy it. As we watched, the older I felt. Later, I found out that Troy and Kerri watched the same thing. My kids loved it and so did their kids. We even rented part 2 tonight. The boys came over to watch too. I loved that movie as a kid, and now I think "How corney!"
What movie did you love as a kid and are not afraid to admit it!

I loved Planes, Trains and Automobiles. The first half is way too funny, but to this day I think the second half is the only movie that will make me sad.

Yeah, I liked that one too. But my favorite one has always been Grease. Then when my kids started watching it, I realized it wasn't the best viewing material.

My parents took my to see Best Little Whore House in Texas when I was a little kid. You can't get more inappropriate than that!! My favorite movie as a kid was Anne of Green Gables and still today makes me cry when Mathew died.

Convince [her|kerri]!

I've tried really hard to get Kerri to post. I know she's busy, but this is so much fun! Lots of friends and funny stories. I know she comes on here to read mine, so use this opportunity to convince her. She has a great rabbit story!
Let's even get Troy on here, if he can find some toilet paper.

Balanced?

The kids started back to school today (yea!!!) They need to have scheduled active lifestyles. School certainly gives them that. Our school has recently decided to restructure their day differently from years past. They are calling it the "Balanced School Day" It makes sense in the grand scheme of things, but a little hard for them to get used to. Having said all that, it got me thinking about "balance". How to balance time, money, activities. Sometimes I feel like I have to do it all. My goal is to stop trying to do it "ALL". I want to be a good mom, volunteer at school, work a little to help with the bills, be the virtuous woman my husband can be proud of, etc.... Paul left the example to let the Lord guide our steps and He will guide us to do ALL things with His strength. I pray that I can balance my life and my family with the weight in the Lords hands.

How do you find your daily balance?

I find sleep is far too overrated. If you cut it out you just bought yourself another few hours.

A real entry....

Robyn came up with a great idea of having a ladies newsletter for the christian women at our congregation. My first instinct was "GREAT!" What a great way to communicate visitation schedule, teaching tools, thought provoking articles (for women) or prayer lists. We have a weekly newsletter. So some didn't see a need for it. Do any of you have such a thing for the ladies? How often is it distributed? If you do, let me know how it's working for you.
  • curlie
We don't have a newsletter, but we get together twice a month for non-ladies' Bible class type activities (in other words, more social things). They vary from month to month. Whenever we start getting the new curriculum together, we're going to have plenty to meet about, so we might as well make it fun while we're at it. ;) I do like the newsletter idea, though..... :)

I love the idea! You can have a recipe section and children's page. It could be so personal from the families in the congregation. It would be a great way to learn more about eachother's lives. We don't have one here (yet) but I think it would be very beneficial. Prayer requests or prayer poems and such...oh it could be so encouraging!

It sounds like a great idea. Even if it was once a month or so. We are such a small group that everyone could contribute something and make it fun and at the same time bring us closer together as Christian women.
    by dhendsbe at 09/01/06 8:56AM
  • netnet
Exactly! Sometimes I feel like there's generation gap here. But we are still all Christian women. What better thing to have in common!

I think there used to be a generation gap. When I first thought of going to the renewal weekend, I thought it was just for the younger folks. Serena assured me it was for everyone and that we older ladies would be welcome. Soooo, I dragged my older sister and my sister-in-law with me and we followed Serenea and her van load down. I must say, that it was great. We really do need to mix with the younger members.

I talked to Carla today and she is on board with the bulletin and said she would help any way she can. Chad is going to talk to the elders this week and just bring them up-to-date with the idea. Hopefully, soon we can get a sample copy made up and work from there.
