This will be a busy, but very enjoyable week! Today started our meeting with Ferrell Jenkins and will continue through Wednesday.
Tuesday the boys don't have school and I will need to find time to vote, probably before work since we will need to be at church at 7:00.
Thursday I am only working a 1/2 day then will go have lunch with the boys at school before heading to the lake to meet up with the ladies from Vivion Road for the Ladies Retreat. The boys will stay all night with my folks on Thursday night and then they will spend the weekend with their dad.
I will get back from the lake Saturday afternoon so will have Saturday evening to recover and then will pick the boys up in Concordia at 9:00 on Sunday morning and be back in Columbia for church at 10:00.
Hope everyone has a great week!
Today is an absolutely gorgeous day! The boys school had their "Stallion Stampede" today and most stuff was outside so we could not have asked for better weather. Last year it rained so some activities had to be cancelled and what stuff could be salvaged was brought inside so today was much better.
Last night we each picked out a pumpkin so I think we will clean them out and begin carving tonight. There are usually a few frustrations throughout the carving process but all in all it should be fun!
What fun things are in store for you this fine fall weekend?
1. I am the middle child (of three girls).
2. Because of #1, I have a horrible case of Middle Child Syndrome (MCS).
3. I cry very easily.....animated movies, commercials, game shows, Extreme Homemakeover (the phrase "MOVE THAT BUS!" makes me reach for the tissue box).
4. I love to bake. (The people at work like this about me.)
5. I had to take my driving test twice to get my license.
6. I was Valedictorian of my high school class (of 16).
7. Somehow I made it through high school and two years of college and never took a foreign language. (although I did have one semester of shorthand which was very foreign to me.)
8. My first "real job" (other than babysitting) was as an Orthodontic Technician....yes, I got to inflict pain on people.
Since a lot of Columbia people have already been tagged, I will tag some KC people so watch out Jennifer, Becky, Cameron, Clayton, Bethany, and Hayley.
5th grade math is really hard! And no, I am not just talking about my kids. I am talking about me trying to help my kids with homework. Somehow math is REALLY different than when I was in 5th grade. I sit down with the workbook and see multiplication problems and think, "no problem, piece of cake". I am thinking, we will just multiply this number, carry this number, multiply again and add what was leftover.....but no! It isn't that easy. Now you have to have "clusters". You have to break down the number in tiny pieces and multiply all of the tiny pieces and skip count instead of just knowing that 10 x 8 = 80......
If I am having trouble helping my 5th graders with their math homework does that make me really dumb or just really old?
Well I had good intentions of getting lots done around the house today.....laundry, cleaning, sorting through stuff in the garage, etc. but instead ended up doing hardly any of that in exchange for a day of playing. What fun we had!
We started the day by going to a place called Jefferson Farms with my parents and my niece. I think it has something to do with the university and is not fully finished yet so they were having an open house type thing so people could come check out the progess. So far it has some animals for viewing/petting (goats, sheep, horses, cows), tractors the kids could climb on and sit in, a pond with a trail you could walk around and feed the fish, berry patches, wild flowers....I was afraid the boys might be bored but they had a really good time.
By the time we left there, it was time for lunch so we all headed back to my mom's for a bite to eat and then around 2:00 mom and I took the boys and my niece to Stephens Park where they played at the playground for a while and then spent about 1 1/2 hours playing at the fountain park and in the lake.
After the park, the boys and I came home so they could shower and put on clean clothes and then we went to get a movie and decided McDonald's was the choice for supper.
Tomorrow we are looking forward to awesome church services and lunch at my Mom's and on Monday we have a birthday party in the afternoon and a BBQ at my sisters house in the evening so it looks like whatever doesn't get done tomorrow afternoon and Monday morning will be waiting a while longer. That's OK, I would much rather play than work anyway!!
