Pictures of the house coming soon...I hardly ever put up pics on pleo, and it always takes me awhile to figure it out.

We are mostly moved in....I have some dishes and other assorted kitchen stuff still at the apartment, as well as Ben's desk and his computer games. Once we move that stuff over to the new house, I will clean the apartment and we will officially have no more apartment :)

I have unpacked all of our boxes from when we moved, and I have a feeling that my mom is going to start wanting me to come to Fort Worth to take all my junk that she has stored in her house!

Not much else is going on with us...what's going on with you? :D

How many gallons does it take...

Does anyone know of a good way to calculate how many gallons of paint you would need to paint several rooms, while taking into consideration that not all the rooms have 4 solid walls?
There are some paint 'calculators' online that take into consideration windows and doors, but not rooms that may also only have 3 walls or half walls or even walls that are mostly taken up by things you aren't going to paint....
I don't want to get stuck with tons of extra paint, but at the same time I don't want to run out half-way through because I'm afraid that the 2nd batch of paint wouldn't match exactly what was already on the walls.

I can post pictures so you know what I'm talking about, if it would help!
  • mjintexas
Hey, I know someone that the "2nd batch of paint" thing didn't work out so well for... haha.

It took us over two gallons to do that room you helped paint. Add in some extra for orange peel texture... you have to put it on thicker to make sure you fill in all the little grooves.

And that's all the help i can be. sry.

I always figure at least one gallon per room. 2 coats is usually necessary. If it is a large room figure 2 gallons. It's ok to have some left over paint! That way you can cover up crayon marks when those future kids come along!

The guy at the paint store should be able to help you. Just figure your square footage! Good luck!!

5 gallon bucket is a discount rate!

I'm with Lynn and remember, it is better to go ahead and buy 2 gallons. Even when you may only need half of the 2nd one that is cheaper then buying by the qt. If you are covering dark walls with lighter paint, apply primer, you will be happier in the long run. If you are painting a lot of rooms the same color then go for the 5 gal. bucket but buy quality paint. Good luck :) Can't wait to see pictures.

Ta Da!

We are officially homeowners! We think we are going to move into the house at the end of April or the first week of May.

I went and picked out my paint colors today for the downstairs....almost time to paint :)
I also bought a book on all the different varieties of roses there are so that I can start planning how I am going to landscape the yard.

I feel very accomplished today :)
  • lynnpaige
Congratulations!! So happy for both of you!!

Welcome to the headaches of home ownership. When it breaks you have to fix it. However, it has to be a great thing because most of us think its all worth it. My best to you and Ben.

It's been awhile!

Wow! I haven't updated in forever. The last couple of months have been really busy, so I’ll just summarize and tell you about the good parts (well, mostly) :)

Thanksgiving is like pie-a-palooza every year, and this year did not disappoint! I had a lot of fun over Christmas (even though I had to work most of the holidays) visiting with some of my family and holding my sweet niece! January has practically flown by…let’s see, in January: I quit my job because it was horrible, and let’s just leave it at that, and Ben and I started looking for a house. :)

February started off just flying by as well, but has since slowed down since I got sick last week. I had a lot of fun the weekend of Valentine’s Day visiting with Aaron and Nat and sweet baby Elinor, Katie, and Mike and his friend Brian. That Friday night we had an awesome sushi sibling night, which was a lot of fun. Then on Saturday, we grilled and had lunch with Ben’s parents, grandparents, cousin, and the siblings. Oh, and we had an ice cream cake to celebrate all the February birthdays! It was so tasty! Then Saturday night we went out to dinner with Mike, Brian, and their friends. I also got to go out to dinner with Katie that weekend, and really enjoyed visiting with her while she was in town for TMEA!

For Valentine’s Day, we just stayed home and I cooked dinner. Ben got me a gift certificate to a spa that’s near out apartment, some candy (of course), and some really beautiful flowers. I got him (just take a guess)….an XBOX game.

On my birthday, I went to the spa and had a VERY relaxing morning. Then I went home and just relaxed the rest of the day. Ben took me out to dinner at Outback, which was sooooo amazing, and then out to a movie. I had felt really tired all week and hadn’t really had all that much energy, but I thought it was from being so busy. Nope. I went to the doctor on Saturday only to find out I had Shingles (again). So, I have been eating plenty of chicken soup ( thankyou! ), teddy grahams, and sprite for the last week, and I am finally starting to feel a little better. I had better get well soon though because I am going crazy just sitting in my apartment. Six days of just sitting on the couch will do that to a person!

If you made it all the way through this, then you win a prize. Hopefully life will slow down and I’ll get well enough to visit all my family and friends in Fort Worth soon!
Hope you are having a great week!
  • mjintexas
LOL... I like your paragraph about quitting your job. :)

YAY for spa days! I hope you feel much much better soon. We have lots to catch up on!
