Wow...Just WOW!!!

So~ Sandy Hayes asked me if we could pick up someone at midnight Wednesday night at Logan airport who was coming to the Methuen/Andover area to visit family for Thanksgiving, and also give him a ride to services on Sunday since we would know where he was staying after dropping him off... she was rather frustrated, she said that she thought Wally had gotten his phone number and written down all the info and he thought she had so she only had part of the information. She said his name was 'Ralph'. She had the airline and flight number and time he was scheduled to arrive. She felt so bad that they were not going to be able to pick him up as planned and also wanted me to bring him basically a huge wonderful Thanksgiving dinner for his family... because she felt bad that they were going to take the opportunity to go be with their family and had to have us pick him up with out a phone number to co ordinate meeting etc... she knows I will try to do whatever she asks... and the crazier and later at night the more likely I am to think that I am the girl for the job!
So I picked up the food... stored the frozen stuff in the cooler she packed it in and the potatoes and vidailia onion in the bag in the kitchen and the zuchinni and summer squash, brussels sprouts, whipped cream and wild blueberry pie in the fridge to deliver it to 'Ralph" and his family. Including the information to connect with him at the airport and a note appologizing for the confusion and telling him who we were and wishing him a good visit and happy Thanksgiving......... and I didn't question it at all.... well .... until when we were leaving for the airport I was looking up the flight and Frank took the cooler with the frozen food to the car and I forgot about the note with the flight info taped to it and couldn't remember anything except the airline and the time, and his name. So.... the airline couldn't look up the flight without the flight number or both departure and arrival cities. Both online... and when I gave up and took the phone number and called on the way so as not to be late if the flight was on time.
Seriously, as I was re-explaining to the nice airline lady trying to look up a flight by matching a few dozen departure cities with Boston to find a 12:10 scheduled arrival and finally as we came out of the tunnel and into Logan she found it and said it was now scheduled to arrive at 12:23am instead of 12:10....I began to realize how fishy all this was and laughed that it would be really cool if we were really meeting our oldest son Steve who was in the Air Force and currently in Tampa, but I really didn't want to be disappointed if it wasn't, so kept saying no... but really this is all so odd.... and Steve wasn't answering his phone....
Frank went into the terminal and, sure enough, it looked like the flight would arrive at 12:23, so we went to the cell phone lot and waited. then decided to come back around a little before to let Frank go in to the bathroom (honest it's NEVER him, it's always me!) but as he disappeared into the terminal doors and I was debating how long I'd be able to wait before having to move the car, I saw a man coming out the far door.... really looked like Steve but far away, must be wishfull thinking.... then he shifted his bag and got just enough light on him.... I dropped the phone (sorry April !) and stalled the car and jumped out like a crazy person!
I'm sure I made quite a scene but the only person who seemed to notice just smiled and enjoyed the moment with us.
So Stevie is asleep in the computer room, the bedding is changed and the sheets and all are in the washer or waiting to go in tomorrow, and Frank has gone to bed, the pie crust dough is made and in the fridge (since the 2 pies Sandy sent aren't enough! haha), the the food is all back in appropriate places, and I am finally falling over tired now that the adreniline has faded!
I already knew I am so richly blessed but this is just OVER THE TOP!
Happy Thanksgiving All!
(Especially to all the co-conspiritors!)

Thanks! I didn't mention the crazy bat that got in the house though. We finally found it after about 1 week! It had gone down to the basement.

Jan, the white sweet potato is not as sweet as a red (yam?)...but it is very rich in flavor. We like it with just salt and butter. My dad liked the white sweet potatoes best (maybe a West Virginia thing) with squirrel gravy over them. My diabetes is a little past the candied sweet potato casserole stage, so I enjoy either white or red, baked and plain.

If I could turn one of the breeding rabbits into food, then I should be able to eat Badger. It was never intended as a pet, and even the breeding pairs who are super loved on, with the exception of one who used to be a pet and was given with the stipulation of never being eaten, we never intended any of them for pets, but for livestock.

^I couldn't find it, and somebody from Dunsmuir posted this on "You know your from Dunsmuir..." (yes I know that is gramatically incorrect)

Did you see that picture circling on Facebook about comforting a grammar Nazi by saying "There. Their. They're."?
    by chessman at 04/24/12 12:54PM

taxes are taxing...

Sigh...
But in spite of the "chillier" weather it really is "Springy" and the more sunshine and mild weather help me feel less burdened. I got laundry hung out several times in the last week and it always smells so good... silly little thing but makes me smile :-)
  • dawnmk23
I haven't put any laundry out but we have enjoyed a nice Spring. 70s even. But they are expecting a freeze the next two nights...

I've had to run my dryer a few time in the last couple weeks because it's been RAINING! Yay for us!
    by quiltedmama at 04/10/12 2:53PM
  • mountaingirl
We've had a little rain but we are starting to feel very dry here too, Mikey! very little snow and now not much rain... lots of fire warnings... doesn't bode will for summer.
    by mountaingirl at 04/12/12 12:35AM

Spring is on 'hold'!

So back to the chill... and thanks to a malfunctioning thermostat we have gone through much more oil than the mild weather would have let us use. GRRRR, so with the colder temps we needed to get oil again. Sigh... so much for this month's budget. Sometimes I think I just can't win.
But on the other side... The Crocus' and Daffodils have been sooooooo pretty, and make me smile. I have even been able to share some plants with friends and that is always nice~
...back to work...
  • quiltedmama
Our crocuses and daffodils are long gone- we already have irises. Carzy. And I would happily send a chunk of our 85 degrees your way! My a/c has been running for the last week. :/

We've been enjoying weather up to the 70s. Been happy to have the heat off hear. It's usually on till mid-April! Hope things go better for you. I made a pot of beans today. Good on the budget, but I love them, too! :0)

We've also had our A/C on...for a few months ;). I actually prefer the chill myself...but *most* of the family has been quite excited about the warmer temperature!

Our oldest daughter was born in March in ND...there was still snow on the ground. Today we went out and played in the pool...such a strange thought!

My living room smells like Dunsmuir to me....

Alot like Lilacs in the spring... It's so nice!!!
Okay it doesn't smell like lilacs, it smells like an evergreen forest!
But I'm sure lovin' it!

I was reading a comment you made on a mutual friend's site. I had been wondering if LaLeche League was still happening. 45 years ago it was a life-saver for a new mother who didn't even have the support of hospital nurses when our little Timmy arrived. What a fight I had with them... I felt I was the only mother around who wanted to breast feed her little one. And then one day I learned of a lovely group of ladies and I never looked back. Today, I love knowing our babies are still getting the best from this organization. Reading your comment below...congratulations! I know having family so far from you isn't easy. I did to to my parents and now today it is reversed and the grandparents are the ones far from the children.
