I am so tired of my former post, and keep wishing someone would update it!
I'll try. I'm in chilly Chicago visiting a plump and darling Gwendolyn Anne Bingham (my first grandchild), and her dear parents. God's gifts are beyond measure. She is thoroughly perfect in every way, and I am enjoying my every moment. So happy for the chance to come. Joseph has been blessed with a job in Houston, TX, which will begin next year when he finishes his law school. He'll be clerking for a judge, whatever that means, and he's very pleased and grateful.
Our Micah gave his sweetheart a diamond last night. We are thrilled with the prospect of another daughter, and of their happy future together serving our creator. She's a wonderful girl. Many years ago I lost a baby during pregnancy, and just a few months later - Micah was conceived. I've always thanked God for knowing what was best for us, even when we couldn't see it for ourselves. What would we do without MIcah? He and Kathryn are both scheduled to finish school December, 2011, but we plan a wedding before that.
Benjamin, Emma, and Jesse continue their studies and enjoy life and learning. Benjamin has formed an attachment to a girl named Cara, whom I hope to meet at Christmas time. (Actually, I have met her - but before I knew how important she was!) Emma's in her first year at FC, and thriving there, as we all knew she would. Although we moved a ton of clothes into her dorm closet in August, she has on someone else's clothes every time I see her, and I have to introduce myself to the girls I see wearing hers! Jesse started high school (!?!?), and we're home schooling. He is very tall and deep-voiced. I can't seem to get any of them to stay little for me. . . .
My mother has moved into an apartment in an assisted living facility near my house. This has turned out to be a great blessing in very many ways. She is much better physically and mentally since she moved there, and it's a huge help to my sister and me.
My dad is still in southern IL and seems to manage on his own okay for the time being. I do have frequent concern for him.
Mark's parents have bought a FL house near us, and they plan to be in FL by the end of November; that is, though, before the TN house sells, so we will have to go back there for more work and a sale before they are firmly settled in FL.
We were fortunate to enjoy a lovely Pennsylvania vacation this summer, along with side trips to IN, IL, and TN. I am now hoping for PA again next summer, since that is where the upcoming wedding will probably take place. : )
Life is rich. May I be wise enough to appreciate it (and its Giver) fully.
My love and best wishes to you and yours.

(This was written by Lee Pitts, popularized by Paul Harvey's readings of it in his famous "PH News and Comment" radio show. Some great stuff here. I certainly failed mine on some counts. . . .)
We tried so hard to make things better for our kids that we made them worse. For my grandchildren, I'd like better.
I'd really like for them to know about hand me down clothes and homemade ice cream and leftover meat loaf sandwiches.. I really would.
I hope you learn humility by being humiliated, and that you learn honesty by being cheated.
I hope you learn to make your own bed and mow the lawn and wash the car.
And I really hope nobody gives you a brand new car when you are sixteen.
It will be good if at least one time you can see puppies born and your old dog put to sleep.
I hope you get a black eye fighting for something you believe in.
I hope you have to share a bedroom with your younger brother/sister. And it's all right if you have to draw a line down the middle of the room, but when he wants to crawl under the covers with you because he's scared, I hope you let him.
When you want to see a movie and your little brother/sister wants to tag along, I hope you'll let him/her..
I hope you have to walk uphill to school with your friends and that you live in a town where you can do it safely.
On rainy days when you have to catch a ride, I hope you don't ask your driver to drop you two blocks away so you won't be seen riding with someone as un-cool as your Mom.
If you want a slingshot, I hope your Dad teaches you how to make one instead of buying one.
I hope you learn to dig in the dirt and read books.
When you learn to use computers, I hope you also learn to add and subtract in your head.
I hope you get teased by your friends when you have your first crush on a boy\girl, and when you talk back to your mother that you learn what ivory soap tastes like.
May you skin your knee climbing a mountain, burn your hand on a stove and stick your tongue on a frozen flagpole.
I don't care if you try a beer once, but I hope you don't like it..
And if a friend offers you dope or a joint, I hope you realize he is not your friend.
I sure hope you make time to sit on a porch with your
Grandma/Grandpa and go fishing with your Uncle.
May you feel sorrow at a funeral and joy during the holidays.
I hope your mother punishes you when you throw a baseball through your neighbor's window and that she hugs you and kisses you at Christmas time when you give her a plaster mold of your hand.
These things I wish for you - tough times and disappointment, hard work and happiness. To me, it's the only way to appreciate life.
Written with a pen.. Sealed with a kiss. I'm here for you. And if I die before you do, I'll go to heaven and wait for you.

Our dear friend
Joycelyn is in the hospital with newly diagnosed Diabetes type 1. They are trying to get the sugar regulated and teach her all about the disease and her new needles before sending her home : (
Please pray for her and her sweet
Mom as they adjust.
As Joycely says, "God will take care of me."
We love you, Broaduses!

Just for your information,
I am going to be a grandma.
My talk is over.
Tomorrow I turn 50, and I don't even mind.
It's a wonderful day.
Thank you Lord, and dear people everywhere.
Love and best wishes to you all.
Aging Melanie
Will **11** candles be enough! Hope your day was enjoyable and you got to do all the things you love! (Maybe a virtual hug to your granddaughter?)
