- THE WORLD -

Switchfoot Gone-
The World,

On the news, all we ever hear about is: murder, rape, a missing person. It's all doom and gloom....nothing happy.

But that's just it..the world is not a happy place.

Yes, there are things I cherish in this world: My family, my friends, beautiful experiences, making memories. But everything else just fades away...it's only temporary.

But maybe it's a good thing, it keeps us from getting attached. Because we're NOT to get attached to this world...again it's only temporary.

But you've got to admit without trials and tough/bad times, I don't think we'd appreciate the good times as much. We would take the good times for granted and the wouldn't be as special, we wouldn't grow as much.

I just wish that people would realize that this world will not last forever.

By the time they do...it may be too late.

Very good thoughts, Missy. I think I've learned most and had the most growth through trials. And, certainly, the tough stuff makes the good stuff just that much sweeter. ;-)

    Love you!

Do you have my Switchfoot CD? You should listen to "Gone" on it...I think it speaks right along the lines about what you're saying :)

Very good thoughts. I like the one about having bad and good times. That is so true! Without the bad times the joyful moments in life wouldn't be as special. Good thoughts.

I don't really have anything to post on right now, but I love Titanic, so I tho't i'd just post some quotes. Everybody likes quotes, I hope.

[climbing an on-deck staircase to the stern as the ship is about to sink]
Male Passenger: Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death...Jack: You want to walk a little faster through that valley there?
Tommy Ryan: Music to drown by. Now I know I'm in first class.
Jack: Well, yes, ma'am, I do... I mean, I got everything I need right here with me. I got air in my lungs, a few blank sheets of paper. I mean, I love waking up in the morning not knowing what's gonna happen or, who I'm gonna meet, where I'm gonna wind up. Just the other night I was sleeping under a bridge and now here I am on the grandest ship in the world having champagne with you fine people. I figure life's a gift and I don't intend on wasting it. You don't know what hand you're gonna get dealt next. You learn to take life as it comes at you... to make each day count.
Jack: Don't do it.
Rose:Stay back! Don't come any closer!
Jack: Come on, just give me your hand. I'll pull you back over.
Rose: No, stay where you are! I mean it! I'll let go!
Jack: [He approaches slowly, gesturing to his cigarette to show that he is approaching merely to throw it over the side into the ocean] No, you won't.
Rose: What do you mean, "No, I won't"? Don't presume to tell me what I will and will not do, you don't know me!
Jack: Well, you woulda done it already.
Rose: You're distracting me! Go away!
Jack: I can't. I'm involved now. You let go, and I'm, I'm 'onna have to jump in there after you.
Rose: Don't be absurd. You'd be killed!
Jack: I'm a good swimmer.
Rose: The fall alone would kill you.
Jack: It would hurt. I'm not saying it wouldn't. Tell you the truth, I'm a lot more concerned about that water being so cold.
[pause. She looks down at the water. Jack is slowly removing his boots]
Rose: How cold?
Jack: Freezing. Maybe a couple degrees over. You ever, uh, you ever been to Wisconsin?
Rose: What?
Jack: Well, they have some of the coldest winters around. I grew up there, near Chippewa Falls. I remember when I was a kid, me and my father, we went ice fishing out on Lake Wissota. Ice fishing is, you know, where you...
Rose: I know what ice fishing is!
Jack: Sorry. You just seem like, you know, kind of an indoor girl. Anyway, I, uh, I fell through some thin ice; and I'm telling you, water that cold, like right down there...
[He gestures with his chin down toward the Atlantic Ocean]
Jack: ... it hits you like a thousand knives stabbing you all over your body. You can't breathe. You can't think. At least, not about anything but the pain. Which is why I'm not looking forward to jumping in there after you.
[They exchange glances]
Jack: Like I said, I don't have a choice. I guess I'm kinda hoping you'll come back over the railing, an' get me off the hook here.
Rose: You're crazy.
Jack: That's what everybody says but, with all due respect, Miss, I'm not the one hanging off the back of a ship here. Come on. C'mon, give me your hand. You don't want to do this.
[She reaches her hand back, he reaches his forward, and he helps her back onto the deck]
Jack: Whew! I'm Jack Dawson.
Rose: Rose De Witt Bukater.
Jack: I'm gonna have to get you to write that one down.

I always cried at this scene:Old Rose: 1,500 people went into the sea... when Titanic sank from under us... there were twenty boats floating nearby... and only one came back. Six were saved from the water... myself included. *Six*. Out of 1,500. Afterward, the 700 people in the boats had nothing to do but wait... wait to die... wait to live... wait for an absolution... that would never come.Lewis Bodine: We never found anything on Jack... there's no record of him at all.Old Rose: No, there wouldn't be, would there? And I've never spoken of him until now... Not to anyone... Not even your grandfather... A woman's heart is a deep ocean of secrets. But now you know there was a man named Jack Dawson and that he saved me... in every way that a person can be saved. I don't even have a picture of him. He exists now... only in my memory.

Does anyone know of a place where I can review book content??

I really need to find one.

There's a book I want to get but I need to review what's in it first, like language and what not.

It's called Prisoner's in Paradise by Akmal Shebl.

That's all for now
  • meditationis
I read an excerpt online. Looks like there is some language, a strange plotline, and a very, very heavy dose of mysticism. I only read a small part of the story (that's all they give you!) but I wasn't highly impressed by the writing.

-The Amazing Higher Power-

This is My last Psalm for our Psalms class.
Hope ya like it.

A Psalm of Praise
By Missy Davis

O Lord, how mighty and glorious You are!!
There are not enough words to describe your awesome works.
Your infinite mercy and forgiveness is astonishing!

How amazing it is to know that there is a higher power I can seek and know that no matter how alone I may feel in this massive world,I know that I am not, for you are always with me. How extremely comforting that is in so many ways.

To know that there is someone I can tell my fears and troubles to and to take our burdens away up to a brighter day, is amazingly wonderful indeed.

When things are at there worst, or so it seems they are. I will not fear. I know you are here beside me all the way, through my trials and temptations. I know you will not send me in over my head.

When it seems there’s no way out. I will not be afraid. I know you will provide a way. You always do.

I'm really hoping I'll get better soon! I stayed home from school Thursday and also today (Friday). Oh, I'm pretty sure that going to the movies tomorrow is NOT going to work. But next week is our spring break, so maybe one of those days will work. But we're going down to Washington to visit my grandparents Monday-Wednesday, so it would have to be Thursday, Friday, or Saturday, and Friday is my birthday, so I'm not sure what that has in store. But I will see if any of those days would work for us, and we'll talk about it on Sunday!
