Goodbye Rattlesnake!!!

My husband, Luke and I stood at our kitchen window this afternoon watching as someone drove off in Julianne's little red Ford Focus. She bought it right before her senior year in high school. Luke affectionately nicknamed it the Rattlesnake because when it's first started up, it roars and makes a LOT of rattles.

It will be the first car for the girl who bought it, so it should serve its intended purpose. It was very 'no frills' with hand-crank roll down windows and a cassette player.

As we watched it drive away, we all relived our own specific memories. For my husband it was all the worrying he did over Julianne driving it and being safe or worrying about it breaking down. For Luke it was all of the rides Julianne gave him to school and possibly remembering the morning he was throwing up while Julianne was driving uphill with one hand and patting him on the back with the other saying, "It's okay, Luke, just go ahead and throw up," in her motherly voice. For me it was just the feeling of moving on to another phase of our children growing up and living in places where they need more dependable cars.

Goodbye Rattlesnake!!

When I put together a scrapbook for Greg's 40th birthday, I included a two-page spread just on all the cars we have had. It's amazing how many memories we have tied to our vehicles. He loved it. Some were funny...some NOT so funny (Grrrrrr)....(Some really ate up our pocketbooks!) :)

Nathan's car, (previously owned by some close friends) was named the Swamp Monster. They named it that cuz they spilled a little antifreeze inside once. OOPS! But we love that thing!

Actually, I'm not any more hyper than usual! ha I'm doing fine and we're just kinda plugging along here and seriously not feelling pressure, which is really nice. We are down to the last load of laundry, Bob is doing the mowing (and it is SO hot outside!), gotta make a trip to the post office, get the family room picked up and then PACK THE CAR. That will take THREE HOURS! ha

Hope you are all fine at your house. I must come see you, I will definitely need some "Janet" time in a couple weeks! ha

Hey! We got to see Julianne's apartment. She was SO pleased and excited about it. We are SO happy for her. Really neat! Sounds like it's alot cheaper too. She and the other camp friends are so sweet - especially to Sara. After we got home, they were all together and they called Sara and they sang one of the songs that they had sung at camp "Humpty Dumpty" and she just came out bawling. She was so pleased that they had called, but she misses them and wishes she could be at FC this year. One more year... Thanks for the comment on the girls' pic. That was made during Becca's senior pictures last spring.

Hahaha! Good question. I probably should have explained that a little better! Well, Nathan Rouse was the half person. Untill camp, I had only been friends with him on facebook but had never met him in real life...so in my book that qualifies as a half person. ;) I hope that you all are doing well! I sure do love you and yours! Have a blessed day!!

At some point

I love the moment at the airport after we have picked up Ben and Julianne that I usually realize...."Wow! I really don't need to carry this cell phone with me everywhere I go for a while, because my family is together!!"

They are home for spring break, and I am rejoicing. :^)

One of the things I have missed the most since Julianne left is not hearing her downstairs playing the piano while I am upstairs cooking. We had a very old piano when she was growing up, and it could never be tuned to pitch. We just got a new one last week, and she was having such a good time going through all of her old music and playing that she could hardly stop last night. Music to my ears...literally! :^)

Ben is enjoying the refrigerator and laying in his old bed again. Luke is transitioning back to not being an only child for a week. Although he's loved being an only child; he also loves having them come home.

Better go cook something.........

Yes.... my 14-month old cat will be an aunt.... things move fast in the animal world, don't they! "Ginger" was a name Phyllis and I thought of while talking on MSN chat, which we do almost every day. After several names, Phyllis came up with "Ginger" and I knew that was it. Fits her personality, too. She's definitely full of ginger and spice and all things nice. Enjoy those kittens... wish I could visit as official "grand-aunt."

Luke Thomas Metzger

aka Luke Tomahawk, Luigi, Lu
15 years old tomorrow

Having two children leave home for college, I am so thankful to still have Luke around for a few more years.
He fills our lives with sunshine and our house with music....and lots of it! He has been such a blessing.

I buy the Frito Lay Rold Gold Holiday rings. They may only be available in your area around Thanksgiving/Christmas. Go to this website and click on Our Snacks, then Where to Buy. Choose Rold Gold, then choose Holiday rings, then enter your zipcode. It should give you a list of places within a 50 mile radius that carry them. Good luck!!

Eight interesting (?) things about me:

1. I love palpating veins and starting IV's.
2. Both of my ankles were broken in a car wreck when I was 2 years old.
3. I was bitten by a cougar when I lived in Tampa.
4. I love rainbows.
5. I worked in an emergency room for 5 years (most likely where I developed #1).
6. I didn't marry until I was 28 years old.
7. My kids call me 'the coupon queen'!
8. As much as I love him, I just can't bear to watch CSPAN with him.

Wow on #2 and #3! I have to agree on #8 as well. Neal can watch CSPAN and CNN and stuff all the time. Madison can even tell you "Cain" and "Obama" when she spots them.
