Alfie Boe singing "Bring Him Home" in the 25th Anniversary Concert of Les Mis. This is Jean Valjean's prayer that the boy his daughter loves will be kept safe in the coming fight.

And I am rather fond of this song, too (although the singer has far, far less experience than Alfie Boe):

"Empty Chairs at Empty Tables." Marius, mourning the death of his friends. Video version here because embedding isn't allowed for that one. I watched my grandmother's recorded version, and I spent the whole time wondering who the kid playing Marius was... I was a more than a little bit surprised when I found out. :-P

Love Les Mis... happy sigh. Dearest and I went to see it together sometime around '99. We would love to do it again. We have not listened to the soundtrack in a few years because of the little ears that love new songs. (We didn't quit before eldest started singing "Look Down...") Thanks for reminding me, we should select certain of those songs to go back into our general play lists!

Heya, Becca! Thank-you for your comment! It'd be great to keep up with each other more. =D That is a pretty thought-provoking principle in that quote you shared. That actually not thinking of yourself is in a sense rather liberating. I mean... obviously you have to think about yourself to an extent. But to actually live as a servant instead of living to be served brings much more satisfaction!
