This is the last week of Mackenna's Fundraiser! We have had a wonderful response and aide to Mackenna so far!! Thank you to all you who have bought books on her behalf! $1406.29 worth of books have been bought earning them $351.57 cash towards bills AND lots of FREE books for Mackenna!!!

Update on Mackenna! The doctor confirmed that she has the swine flu! :-( Please be praying for her!

Mackenna's Story
Mackenna Mae Casebolt was born on October 4, 2008. We always knew she would be a special little girl. Within a few hours of her birth, she went into distress and after testing it was determined that she had some major heart problems and was immediately transported to Riley Children’s Hospital. After many tests, we found that she has complex congenital heart disease. Her defects include complete atrioventricular (AV) canal defect with a hypoplastic left ventricle, double outlet right ventricle (DORV) with pulmonary atresia, transposed great vessels, total anomalous pulmonary venous return (TAPVR) to a left superior vena cava, and discontinuous pulmonary arteries. In a nut shell her “piping” is all wrong and her heart does not have enough chambers to properly pump blood.
In order for her to grow and thrive, she requires a series of major heart surgeries. These surgeries include the Norwood (performed at 9 days old), the Hemi-Fontan (performed at 8 months old) and the Fontan-Completion (scheduled for approximately 18 months old). In a normal heart, the blood flows from the heart, to the lungs, then back to the heart again. However, her heart is unable to pump both directions. Therefore, the purpose of these procedures is to reroute her blood vessels to systematically bypass her heart. This allows her blood to flow from her body to her lungs, then on to her heart.
As you can imagine, this is quite the strain on her family emotionally and financially. She continues to overcome hurdles on a daily basis as she takes all her formula by a feeding tube in her stomach six times a day and takes several medicines with each feeding. She was also born without a spleen making her susceptible to infections. Because of this, she is on antibiotics every day for protection; keeping things clean around her is a top priority! Even with these extra challenges, she still manages to do normal baby things like learning to crawl, walk, and starting to eat some table food!
After two major heart surgeries, many minor procedures, countless echocardiograms, and thousands of answered prayers, she is a happy 12 month old little girl. She loves Oreos and the color pink. Her favorite thing to do is make funny faces to make people laugh. Like her parents Kris and Tiffany, she loves music. Her favorite songs is “I’ll be there for you,” the theme song to Friends.
As we look forward to her third major heart surgery next summer, we can see the Power and Love of God working in her life. She continues to be such a blessing to so many people. Thank you for being a part of “Team Mackenna!”
