Mom has now completed 8 chemo treatment and had a follow up CT scan yesterday. Today, she talked to the oncologist's nurse and she was able to give her the preliminary report. She said, "the scan shows a thickening in the esophagus, due to the cancer, but NO carcinogenic cells. There are some fatty cells in the liver, which is normal for many people, but NO carcinogenic cells there either." How wonderful! Praise be to God!
She will see the oncologist again on Tuesday to get a full report and to discuss what they will do now that the cancer appears to be gone. The nurse thinks she will continue to receive some treatments, but hopefully they will be able to decrease the dosage or how often she has them. She continues to struggle with the side effects, especially the extreme fatigue. Mom has always been a night owl, but has been going to bed between 7-8 pm and sleeping for 12-14 hours. She is hoping that if they decrease the frequency of the treatments, she will have more "good days" and feel up to getting out of the house more.
Thank you all so much for your support. I really do appreciate it. We know that this is an answer to so many prayers, so keep them going. God is so good!!!
Much love to all,
Marlee celebrated her 14th birthday on June 11. She was born in St. Louis, MO and weighed 7 pounds and 4 ounces. She joined a 2 year old brother at home.
I joke that I should have known she would be a girl from early on in the pregnancy, because she was "trouble from the beginning". Two months into the pregnancy, I had complications and was unable to do any lifting. Joel was 18 months old and Jorg had a broken ankle and was on crutches. He quickly ditched the crutches and paid for it later with back pain. My Hero! At 6 months, I began having premature labor and was put on bed rest for 6 weeks. After 2 false alarm trips to the hospital, an hour and a half away, she made her arrival in record time. I was only at the hospital for a little over an hour before delivery. No stops for coffee this time!
She was adventurous at a young age and learned to climb before she could walk. Joel never even attempted to climb out of the baby bed, but she was climbing out at 10 months old. She showed Joel how to climb out of his bed.
As a toddler she had adorable ringlet curls!

She loves to read (mostly fantasy), horse back ride, ride the 4-wheeler, rollorblade, sing, listen to music, write stories and poems and take pictures of sunsets. She loves doing things for others and is good at giving neck massages. We are blessed to have such a wonderful and sweet daughter.

Mom had her 6th chemo treatment yesterday. She continues to struggle with the side effects - fatigue, shocking in her hands and feet, muscle cramps and blurry vision. Today she said this round has not been as bad as the last treatment.
We found out more details about her CT scan results 2 weeks ago. (Sorry for not posting it sooner.) After 4 chemo treatments, they are normally very pleased with a 30% reduction in tumor cells. She had a 41% reduction in tumor cells.
Prayers are being answered! God is so good!
She will have 2 more chemo treatments and then they will do another CT scan to check her progress.

Thanks for your continued prayers.
Joel turned 16 on May 28th. It is hard to believe that we will soon have our first teenage driver in the house.
He was born in St. Louis, Missouri and weighed in at 6 pounds 11 oz. He was born a month early and Jorg didn't believe me when I told him that I was in labor. He even stopped for a cup of coffee on the way to the hospital. The doctor tried to stop my labor by giving me IV fluids, but it didn't work. He was determined to make his arrival, but it took him almost 20 hours.
He is a wonderful son and we have been blessed to watch him grow up. He loves to read (primarly fantasy), spar with his buddies, listen to music, write songs and is a very good cook.
The day after Joel's birthday we went to Michigan to stay with the Smith's while Jonathan Perz and family were there for a gospel meeting. There were 22 of us there and we got to embarrass Joel by singing Happy Birthday to him on Saturday night. Joel said that it was his best birthday ever!

As many of you know, my mom is fighting esophageal cancer. She has had 4 chemo treatment so far. She had a CT scan today to check and see if the chemo is working. The preliminary report shows that the tumors are decreasing in size. She will get more details next week when she visits the oncologist for her next chemo treatment. God is so good and has answered many prayers.
Thank you for your continued prayers.
