Ideas for how to study the Old Testment...
So...I am looking for ideas of the "best" way to go about studying the Old Testament. I feel like I have started to read it a hundred times and then get lost in the genealogies...and end up back in the New Testament (where I don't feel so lost). I am a very "chronological" person...so reading it from Genesis to Malachi has not been a great way for me to try and study. What are some ways that have worked for you? What version do you use? Any aids or helps??
thanks

Well, there is a chronological Bible out there. I'm not sure the name of it, but I'm sure it'd be easy to find. -
This one is the first I saw when I googled it. I haven't seen it personally. It's a New King James translation. -
Have you seen the Waldron's book that divides the bible up into 17 time periods? The time periods are a chronological "skeleton" so to speak, then you fill in the skeleton with the bible stories that fit into each time period. I love this approach, as it helps with learning the bible as one big story, and thus helps to retain each new part learned, for it is connected to the things before and after. For whatever reason, I can't think of the name of the book, but if you don't have it and you'd like it, I'll be glad to find my copy and let you know. -
^^^That's my favorite. Here it is.... It is only $2.50 and is a 'way' of studying...just a short book. I've used it myself and with virtually every age I can think of. I cannot say enough about it. I LOVE it. It is called 3 Cycle Approach. -
Sorry, I don't really have recommendations. Yet. :P -
I use the daily bible. It has you go through the bible in a year. I got a really cheap one for about $5--I think. Since I have other Bibles I didn't see the point of getting one of the more expensive ones, and it has served it purpose the two years I've had it! -
Thanks everyone! I thought you were talking about the "other" Waldron book Cara (The History and Geography of the Bible Story). Crazy me...I should have asked...oh well. I have a few different suggestions that I might try! Thanks -
Thank you, Rob, for your service to our country! Thank you, Laura, for standing by your soldier! -

I had to go exploring to figure out what ^they^ were talking about. Found it fairly quick. Congratulations! =)
