I'm finished.

I will no longer be on Pleonast. I'm resigned to the fact I'm going Hell now. I no longer care what you people think. I have been offended so many times it's not even funny. I'm going to leave you with this. There are millions of people in the word who have never heard of God and a million more that denounce his name or deny that Jesus Christ is our Savior. All the energy you spend gossiping and looking down on other religions could be spent better in teaching others about our Lord. I continue to pray that your mind and your heart will be opened to other people and hope your name is written in Heaven in place of mine. Have a nice life and God bless.

To Emily, Terra, and the rest of my second family:
Thank you for all the support you continually give me. My whole life I've always had someplace to go and be just Lauren. Not Lauren the cheerleader, the nerd, the horse girl, the aggie, the catholic, or any of the many other categories I'm constantly put in. Just Lauren Colleen Allison Sanford. I love all of you so much. You will always be as close to me as my real family. I have one brother and 3 sisters. How lucky can I be? You have always accepted me for who I am and given me honest advice like you would a real sister. Whether I like it or not. You have also always supported my religious endevours and I can't even put in words how much that means to me. Going to mass with me and asking questions without contesting the answers, not stuffing Bible verses down my throat, but always knowing that our morals and faith in the Lord the same. (To Terra and Emily)You will always be special to me and I know that He has a plan for each of us. I hope that I'll be Aunt LaLa one day and you'll be Aunt Em and Aunt T. ;) I love ya'll and see ya soon.

ah, sad to see you've left. I'm Roman Catholic and I know exactly what you mean by the pressures put on Catholics from users on this site. Although, I have been blessed to find some nice Christians on this site.

Part 1 of a Three Part Series. (lol)

This is just an in general explanation. I'll answer the more specific questions when I have more specific answers. So here goes:

Why do we have a Pope? Part 1

"Why do Catholics need a Pope? And, for that matter, why do they need bishops and priests and..." Whoa Whoa Whoa let's not get carried away there. The easiest way that I understand it is to use an analogy. Imagine if you made photocopies of your country's constitution and gave one to each citizen, saying "Read it. Interpret it. And live it the way you think you should." What would you get? Chaos. Mayhem. Everyone would interpret and live the constitution a little differently and there would be no unity. (This is my opinion of why there are so many the different denominations of Christians in the world.) That is why every country needs a government to put it's constitution into effect and maintain unity.
Jesus didn't make photocopies of the Bible and pass it out to all his followers and say, "Read it. Interpret it. And live it the way you think you should." Instead, he laid the foundation for a Church whose leaders would safeguard and help the Church to understand his teachings and maintain unity.
He selected the twelve apostles whom he trained for this leadership task. But even they needed a leader, so Jesus told Simon Peter, the son of Jonah, "You are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it. I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven." (Mt 16:18-19) We consider St. Peter the first Pope, or leader of the Church, even though he wasn't called "Pope". And since Peter was the bishop of Rome, almost all of his successors have been situated there; and all have been the bishop of Rome even when situated elsewhere, which is the main reason our faith is called the Roman Catholic faith.

Ok, about the intepreting the Bible part. In Ephesians 2:12 Paul explains that the Scriptures and the words which are written are understandable. Also in Eph., 5:23 says that Christ is the head of the Church. No where in the Bible is the authority to head the church given to anyone else. We are ALL given the keys to the kingdom of heaven, not just Peter or a pope. 2 Peter 1:20 says, "Knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation." Peter is telling us that the Bible is not for us to intepret in whichever way we so desire. The Bible is simple to understand, there is no iintepreting to it. It's a simple read and do. Matthew chapter 7 tells us about the vast amounts of people who will not do what the Bible is telling us to. "For wide is the gate and broad is the way that leadeth unto destruction and many will enter it." "For narrow is the gate and strait (not straight) is the way that leadeth unto Heaven and few will enter it." The "religious"

... world is in chaos, but it was predicted. The only authority for any type of leadership in The chuch is that of elders and deacons. Bishops and pastors are also words for elders. 1 Tim 3 and Titus 1:5 gives the qualifications for those positions. Their job is to over see the church, to tend to the flock, to be servents of the Lord, to make sure that what is being done is in accordance to the Bible. There is still no authority found anywhere in the Bible that gives anyone any right to over see a church and especially more than 1. Elders, priests, bishops, whatever, are always referred to in the plural.

Acts 1 and 2 discuss the founding of The church that Jesus built on the rock that He is the Son of God. The church was established in Jarusalem, not Rome. (sorry I'm jumping back from point to point) But 2 Tim 2:15 say, "Study to show thy self approved unto God (it means read your Bible so you know whats up), a worker than needeth not to be ashamed (ashamed b/c you don't know what God has said to you), rightly dividing the word of Truth (acting in accordance to the Bible, not "man's own private interpretation").

I also continue to ask the question about Matthew 23:9, "But call no man on earth father, for one is your Father, he is in Heaven."

If the Bible is so clear than why do we have so many different denominations? If it was so clear than why aren't we all just Christians?
    by lasgotgreentruck at 04/25/05 1:06AM
  • larry
I can't explain that, but Matthew chapter 7 prophecies it. "Wide is the gate and broad is the way that leadeth unto destruction and many will enter it." I don't know the answer. So untill then, we must accept that which God has told us and strive to not be in the majority. I believe it is 1 Peter 1:20 that says not everybody wants to be saved. Who knows why. But like I said on my blog, we should all help each other get to heaven. It's us aginst the devil. Eph 3:4 says the Bible is understandable. The Bible is God's rule book, we have no authority to change or re-write what his rule book says. If God wanted us to do something different, he'd tell us. But he gave us the Bible and we need to do what it says. :)

  • lasgotgreentruck
Catholics don't change or rewrite what the Bible says. I've been to church with Emily and my Bible works the same way hers does. We also do not have other creed books. We have works inspired by the Holy Spirit whose purpose is to provoke thought or inspire but they are in no way put on the same level of the bible. Random fact by the time a catholic is 21 they will have read the whole Bible 7 times cover to cover.
    by lasgotgreentruck at 04/25/05 3:18PM
  • larry
    Then what about Matthew 23:9?
    by larry at 04/25/05 4:24PM
  • larry
And about the holy inspired stuff... 1 Tim 6:3, Rev 22:18, and Gal 1:8. The Bible is THE ONLY authority. Anything else is not.
    by larry at 04/25/05 4:31PM
  • lasgotgreentruck
I specifically said they are not held as authorities. Nothing is held on the same level of the bible. And for that matter we call Priests Father, too. I'm really tired of being argued with and have my religion over analysed. It is what it is no more no less. I'm wrong whatever. This is why people don't want to answer people like you because you never leave it alone. My beliefs are my own and so be it if I'm going to Hell. There are millions more people that have never even heard of God much less believe in him so I think I'm alot better off then they are. You should make all this negative energy positive energy and witness to the people that really need it.

New Blog Coming Soon

I'm soon going to be opening a new blog specifically for the purpose of answering people's questions about Catholicism. This will a blog for open minded people. I will not tolerate people judging others or condemning me for my beliefs. If you truly want to understand feel free to ask me anything you want. If I don't know the answer I'll do my best to find out. The first post will be the answers to one Larry Camps so called "questions" and for those that replied to his article.

Now about me. I'm good. I might be going to England this summer for a summer program at Cambridge. I'm really excited. Also my family will soon be building the house we've always dreamed of on our property. I'm looking forward to that too. We're voting for cheerleading captain and co-captain tomorrow night. I'm running for co-captain and I'm really nervous. I have a pretty good chance of getting it too. I don't feel so great right now. Girl problems, just what I need more hormone unbalancement. I don't think that's a word. Anyways! That's it.
  • it_doesnt_matter
England, i had that same offer, with a list of different courses you can take while you're there. I didn't take advantage of it though... oh well.

the thing is you don't want to be wrong. it's wrong of you to treat me like this and i won't tolerate it. you think you know all about my religion and you know nothing. if you think i'm going to hell just because i'm Catholic then i'll see you there for judging me.

I never said any of that. I was simply putting information out there. I was talking to me to in my last comment. I'm sorry if it came accorss differently. I said I want to have an open conversation. I was just putting different verses out there because of other stuff that was said. Nothing ment to be offensive.

I don't understand boys.

I swear I do not get guys at all. Let's just be a jerk and expect that to be okay. Why are they so selfish!? Ugh! I just want a nice boy with moderate looks who will treat me with respect and has confidence in himself. Is that so hard?! Honestly. Does it actually go through their mind how their heartbreaking ways effect others?

Longer blog later on my life this was just a rant. Good day.
