Moral Excellence
What goes unheralded too often in our society is the importance of moral excellence. We're taught morality. Minimal morality is legislated. But how often is moral excellence taught? And how is moral excellence defined?
I'm as tired of Tiger Woods' scandal as the next guy. (The best comment I heard was that he wouldn't be in this mess if his parents had named him "Stinky.") But, he's a great example. In my humble opinion he had everything but moral excellence. That was all he lacked. And because he lacked moral excellence he's going to lose many of his richest blessings.
As for defining moral excellence, I've found no better standard than the Bible. Some systems claim to be less biased. Some claim to be more reasonable and modern. But there is no better system of morality than that found in the scriptures. If you would be so bold as to adopt and boldly stand for the morality of the Bible you will be blessed beyond measure in this life, and, most importantly, in the next. It is the way to truly possess ones possessions (Obadiah 1:17).
A synonym for moral excellence is holiness. And God calls us to be holy for one simple reason. We are to be holy because he is holy. We are to be good because God is good.
Of all the lessons to teach a young man the importance of moral excellence is critical. So critical that if we don't teach moral excellence we might as well not teach anything else.

I like that you quoted Obadiah. :)
