Sorry Charlie

I regret to inform you the planned gathering listed below has been put on hold. But never fear, this long awaited party will happen in the near future.

I think I may go visit CA in the spring, let me know if you feel you need a trip out there as well, we could catch the same flight :-)

1st official Katie Still Has A Job Party ... the follow on to the Katie Got a Job Party

Don't miss it! More details to come.

I Love Fall

Since last I updated I turned 26, bought a new car (goodbye ’02 Civic, hello ’06 Jetta), got new job responsibilities, took my first week ever of paid vacation, took some weekend road trips, burnt down a house (it’s ok… it wasn’t a real house that someone lived in), was mother to my niece for a week while her sister had surgery and was in the hospital, and rewired the cable in my apartment. Sure.. there’s been more but those are the high level highlights.

This past Saturday I went home per request of my fam. On Sunday everyone gathered at my mom’s house and we made homemade applebutter. We did not just peel a few apples throw them in a pot and sit in the living room and talk. My mom bought 20 bushels of apples (and later admitted she needs to let her engineer daughter do mathematical calculations in the future as we now have apple overload) and we peeled enough apples to make 36 gallons of slices, started a fire at 9:30 am outside, and at 1:00 pm when it was hot enough, poured all the ingredients into a huge copper kettle, put it over the fire and cooked and stirred and cooked and stirred for 5.5 hours. It was great to have the whole family there (4 generations) and enjoy a beautiful fall day doing something we haven’t done for many years. I also got to jump in the leaves with my 6 year old niece… and watch my baby nieces show me their crawling and waving skills.

This Saturday you should come in town … the first annual holiday feast… The Feast ’06 … will be taking place. It’s gonna be a good time.

Clubbin' It

My section manager at work called me into his office last week. It’s kind of like going to the principal’s office… you never know if it’s good or bad. This was a good visit. He thanked me for all my work, told me I was doing a great job and presented me with 4 club seats to the Reds game… complete with a free parking pass and passes to the Riverfront Club. These are the seats where they come and take your order and bring you the food, you walk through the air conditioned, hard wood floored lounge to get to your seats. I have never felt so fancy before going to a Reds game. That is the way to go. A super special thanks to Mr. Puchala and Mr. Henry for coming along. It was so awesome to see them. Perhaps the greatest moment was Poochie coming into town and not informing Joshua D. Causing the classic “WHAT?” stunned reaction… amazing! I’m extremely grateful to have such friends.

Also this weekend Marlayna drove through. We had a mini reunion at the Backporch.. complete with playing cornhole! Yay for Cincinnati games.

This was my first 4th not being home for fireworks or a picnic with the family. But today, Mr. Childress called to say he was driving through Cincinnati and was going to stop by. I was presented with a 4th of July gift… a donut complete with patriotic sprinkles. We sang a patriotic song to celebrate the holiday. Due to the lack of a flag in my apartment.. the donut and a red, white, and blue “Don’t Mess with Texas” potholder were our audience. It was definitely the highlight of my day. Will and his friend were planning to light fireworks from the car on their drive back to Cleveland, OH. I supplied them with matches… here’s hoping all fairs well for them!!

It’s been a great 4 days of drive through visitors and hanging out with friends… minus work yesterday. Can’t wait to see what the rest of the summer holds!

injuries and engines

I’m sitting here with an aircast and a frozen bag of blueberries on my foot. For real, who needs to use ice cubes when one can just grab a frozen bag of food… I highly suggest the blueberries for injuries…

In my mind here’s what happened: I was casually strolling down the street…. When I found myself in the situation that would change my life. I had the opportunity to save a baby falling from a building… just at the moment I enclosed the child in my arms… a car came by and hit me, well ran over my foot really. But no worries, the baby is safe and sound… my foot, not so much. The guy babysitting, runs over… more than extremely grateful for my recent action… and decides to thank me by taking me out… once my foot heals naturally so that I can actually walk.

However, to onlookers of the situation… it may have appeared a little more like this: So I'm leaving work.. and descending the stairs. As I get about 1/4 of the way down the last flight, I suddenly feel my body lose control of itself. I actually think my shoe caught my pants.. but details details. So... it starts out feeling like I can regain control. Miss a step here... try to recover... body starts moving a little more quickly, causing me to miss 2 steps this time... then faster, causing me to miss a couple steps and move to the other side of the stairwell.. where I am frantically trying to get it under control b/c there are people in the lobby. Well... with 5 steps to go, it was looking like a possibility.. then all my hopes and dreams were shattered... as my body, with maximum momentum even... decided there was no need to hit any of the remaining steps. Instead it would be way more enjoyable for my hip/knee/elbow to collide with the floor and my head to collide with the wall adjacent to the stairwell. And my foot to do something random, causing the shoe to fly across the floor. As if this lovely display is not enough ...a guy who was in the lobby, decided that was the most opportune time to round the corner to ascend the stairs.

It was definitely not the way to end the day of work.

In other news… a word of warning. When saying hello to your friend at work while you are on a conference call about parts for aircraft engines… funny things may come out …

Katie... everything good on your engine?
Eden... my engine
Eden… lol
Katie...i mean end
Katie...sorry i'm on a call
Eden... hhahaa
Katie...and they are talking about engines.. ha ha
Eden... hilarious!
