Changes

It has been a LONG time since I posted. We are getting settled in Japan. The thought of driving here makes me nauseous. Driving on the left hand side of the road seems so very unnatural. We left 100s in Arizona for 60s here. We've pulled the sweatshirts and jeans out. Come August I know it will be hot especially with no ac. We left such a wonderful family in AZ. We will miss them terribly. We have a house. It is 500 sq ft smaller than our old one plus no 2 car garage. More downsizing will be necessary when our stuff gets here which should be August or September.

How are you all?

Glad for your update! Can't wait to see what adventures you have there. Japan is one of those places I'm really interested in right now considering the events at the Fukushima Dai'ichi nuclear plants. I'm not sure how close you are to the tsunami affected region, but have you seen much in that regard?

I can't imagine driving on the left side - I would definately need to concentrate very hard not to wander back to the automatic comfort zone! I hope you will find a good family there in Japan too. I know after all the moves we've had in the past that at the start, you wind up thinking so much about the loved ones you left behind but before you know it, you've got new loved ones in your new locale, and don't miss those who are not around you quite as much. I'm sure you've already figured that out. The house situation will be a challenge with your four boys, but I have no doubt that your can-do attitude will have you making the best of it! May God bless your family as you go about serving Him, wherever you are!

I remember its being daunting when I drove in England on the way back from Germany. It wasn't so bad on the open road, but in the villages and staying on the left side on the round-abouts - yikes! Do they have round-abouts in Japan? I hope it doesn't take you long to get used to it. Good to know you arrived safely. Hope the downsizing goes well.

Thanks for your thoughts. I wish we could talk too! Each day seems to unfold more and more info and more and more choices. We are just trying to figure out what direction to go in and how to make all of this work best for Chi. Last night, him saying star was such a big deal. He is pretty much limited to vowels right now and I couldn't belive he could say "s" cause i know that's a hard one. I think it was just what I needed to see that we are going to get through this and arrive on the other end one day.

We think we're going to go with Jacob. We like it and we're trying it out a bit and I think it will stick.

How is it the new year is right around the corner? I will have to get used to writing 2012 on things now.

Thomas will be turning 4 on Jan 2nd. Where has the time gone?? He is looking forward to going to Peter Piper Pizza which is like Chucky Cheese. Not a huge request and we are happy to accommodate him. :) He will also be getting some new Buzz Lightyear bedding. He is a huge Buzz fan. He has 2 buzz shirts which I wash as often as possible and he wears as soon as they are washed.

Wade is turning 30 on Jan 18th. If any of you would like to send him a card please let me know. Always nice to get mail at birthdays.

We all had a wonderful Christmas. There is nothing that beats the magic of Christmas through children's eyes. We have taken the tree down and made sure the ornaments were packed well for the trip to Japan. I also tried to get rid of excess decorations.

In this upcoming year we have a couple of trips planned before going overseas. We will be going back to SD in March to see our families and drop off our dogs with my parents. They are going to take them for us as they are getting too old for an overseas trip. Sometime in April we plan on going to see my grandma in Athens, AL. We always look forward to going there.

We look forward to the changes this year holds in store for us. Change always opens up opportunity for growth.

What is in store for you in this upcoming year?

I just wrote down Wade's birthday info and will plan to send him a card. I remember when I turned 30, I - for some unknown reason - felt old. But then a friend of mine (10 years older) told me she'd talked with her mother once about aging. Her mother told her while one may look differently and be older, you felt the same - cared about things pretty much the same, and now that in a couple of years I'll be twice as old as Wade, I'm fine with it. But I don't think guys have ever looked at that aging process as women have. And I'm sure not all women have.

I don't know if you remember Betty Hall from Westside. She is a very tall, attractive woman. She began to "date" Wiley awhile after Wilma died. One time she had to come to Customer Service (where I worked) to renew her ID card. Her one problem was that now I was going to know her age!!! Of course I have no idea how old she is. I did not store that tidbit of info in my brain.

    Love you you all!

Would you mind sharing your sourcream rollout cookies? I have tried several sugar cookie recipes over the years, but never found one that made the work worthwhile.
