I'm engaged!!
On March 22nd, 2011 a little before 10pm, I became one step closer to my dream of being a wife – Geoffrey Knudtson’s wife. I must say, now that it has actually happened and I actually have a beautiful ring on my finger, it is a strange feeling. There are many high emotions – of happiness, joy, cautiousness, love, tears. But overall, I’m happy. We’re happy.
Here’s the story:
I was wanting some quality time with Geoffrey. I asked him if we could go take a walk and he said sure. He just had to go up to his room to change his clothes after volleyball. He was wearing khaki shorts with pockets and his red arête shirt. Seemed pretty normal to me. The thought of pockets to carry a ring popped in my head, but, of course, I wasn’t expecting it so soon.
So we started walking, everything was normal. Walking and talking like we have done many times before in the past. We talk about numerous topics, a lot having to do with the future, which is not a rare topic for us. We started walking towards a park (Bonnie Brae Park), a park that we often go to. We get there and play around on the playground for a little bit, just talking about this and that. And then he asked me, “Where do you see yourself in 5 years?” At this point I still suspected nothing. I proceeded to tell him, as well as him telling me where he saw himself in 5 years. He then asked me where I saw myself in 2 years, we both gave our answers. In the same manner, he continued asking these type of questions, where do I see myself in a year and a half, in a year, 7 months, in 3 months, in 2 days, etc. But then he started asking where I saw myself at curfew, and in 30 minutes, and in 2 minutes and finally in 30 seconds.
As we kept getting closer to him asking where I saw myself in 30 seconds, I could tell something was up. He said we should move over to a metal car playground toy, and I sat down there. At one point he reached in his pocket and was holding something in his hand and I had a feeling that someone was behind me. If you know Geoffrey he doesn’t stand still for long, but at this point Geoffrey was just standing there looking at me and talking directly to me and kept asking where I saw myself in 30 seconds, I told him I didn’t really know. In thought of getting out of this moment of awkwardness, I started heading towards the slide. He asked where I was going and I told him that I was going to slide. I got to the top and sat there for a minute or so, while he continued to ask where I saw myself in 30 seconds, but I asked him to answer where he saw himself in 10 years first, we both answered and I slid down. We walked over to the monkey bars, and stood there talked some more and hugged, he continued to ask where I saw myself at curfew, in 2 minutes, and in 30 seconds. At one point, when he asked where I saw myself in 30 seconds, I said kissing you, he counted down from 30 and then we kissed. I even at one point said I see you on your knee, but nothing happened. But eventually, after me thinking in my head just do it already!, he started telling me that where he saw himself in 30 seconds, 2 minutes, one year, two years, five years, fifty years and beyond was madly in love with me and by my side forever. So he asked the question again, and I finally got the right answer. Where do you see yourself in 30 seconds? Madly in love with you. Where do you see yourself in 2 minutes? Madly in love with you. Where you do see yourself in 2 years? Madly in love with you. Where do you see yourself in 20 years? Madly in love with you. Where do you see yourself in 50 years? Madly in love with you. He then got down on his knee and asked me to marry him. I, of course, said yes! as he put the perfect princess cut diamond on my left ring finger.
Thankfully, Justin, Geoffrey’s best photographer friend, was in the “bushes” taking pictures, he came and greeted us and left. We called my mom first, who was speechless, and then his mom, and then a bunch of other people. The news quickly spread and I was greeted in Hinely with ecstatic screams and hugs and story time.
Depending on how everything works out, we are talking about getting married early spring of 2012. But no details have been fully discussed yet. But we will keep you posted.
Love you all, and we thank you for all your love and support.
