Happiness

One of the things in life that makes me happier than many others is to get a new Bible. I've had my NKJV Thompson Chain Reference as my main Bible for four years, but I really enjoy having other translations to read and study. I love God's Word.

A Worthy Woman

Tomorrow is Mother's Day here in the U.S. of A. Coincidentally, I have a mother. Her name is Cathy Moore. She's a rockstar.

Proverbs 31:10-31 gives a well-known, but very apt description of a virtuous wife. Particularly, I think of verses 25-30 when I think of my mother.

25 "Strength and honor [are] her clothing;
She shall rejoice in time to come.

26 "She opens her mouth with wisdom,
And on her tongue [is] the law of kindness.

27 "She watches over the ways of her household,
And does not eat the bread of idleness.

28 "Her children rise up and call her blessed;
Her husband [also], and he praises her:

29 "'Many daughters have done well,
But you excel them all.'

30 "Charm [is] deceitful and beauty [is] passing,
But a woman [who] fears the Lord, she shall be praised."

Many times, people follow "You're the best..." with "...in the world." Well, I can't know for certain my mother's the best in the entire world, but she's the best mother for me and my sisters. (And she'd probably be the best mother for millions of other kids. But I'll keep her, thanks.)

I don't honor my mother often enough, but in recognition of the day, I say this:

Mom, you are clothed in strength and honor. You are exceedingly wise and kind. You watch over the ways of your house and you certainly don't eat the bread of idleness. I rise up and call you blessed. Certainly, many daughters have done well, but you excel them all. And finally, you are a triple threat. You are charming, beautiful, but most importantly, you fear the Lord. I love you, mom.

Happiest Mother's Day, Fluffy! I'm excited to see you Saturday, Lord willing, and hope you enjoy having most of your family in the nest! :-)

A Good Reminder

Three of the works of the flesh, as given in Galatians 5, are strife, seditions, and heresies. These are, according to the Holy Spirit, self-evident. Furthermore, those who practice such things, regardless of their religious claim, will not inherit the kingdom of God.

From the same chapter, we learn that the fruit of the Spirit is composed of love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Against these, there is no law. These will also be self-evident on one's life (Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them. - Matthew 7:20).

May our constant prayer be to abandon the works of the flesh and to be ever-increasing in the fruit of the Spirit. I know it's mine.

    love you joel. Thanks as always for the sobering, and very thoughtful insight

    Ever notice that those who point out these three works of the flesh are accused of apologizing for the truth?

    Thanks for this post.

Who Cares?!

"A piece of ice at 0 °C falls from rest into a lake whose temperature is 0 °C and 1.50% of the ice melts. Compute the minimum height from which the ice has fallen."

Seriously?! I'm sorry, but I have better things to do with my time than to waste it on problems like this one.

In other news, THE TALENT SHOW IS TOMORROW! WHOOP!

    That's the way I feel about most of the problems in my math class...especially probability of drawing a marble out of a bowl, replacing it in a basket, and then figuring out if it will be green...I DON'T CARE
