They are thinking now that it could be H1N1. The flu test came back positive, the H1N1 test was inconclusive. It doesn't really matter- they treat the same way. Today he is doing better still. They've turned his vent down to 70% and his O2 is staying in the 90s. His chest x-ray is looking much better. They aren't talking about moving him to Vanderbilt anymore. My brother and his g/f are starting to relax a little and feel like they can go home and rest a little. Thank you all for your prayers!
I'm feeling helpless right now, so I'm posting this on all of my online outlets.
Please pray for my brother, Dusty's roommate John, aka Tater. Saturday, he went to the ER with a high fever and vomiting. They admitted him with double severe pneumonia. It turned into acute respiratory distress syndrome so they sedated him and put him on a ventilator because his O2 was dipping down to 84% or so. Yesterday things were looking better. They turned the vent down to 80%. His parents arrived from North Dakota (to Tennessee) and his mom is a surgeon, so knows the doctor speak. Today he's back on the vent at 100% and they have started dialysis. They want to move him to Vanderbilt but his vent is not compatible with the vent on the helicopter and he's not stable. He NEEDS to be at Vandy. They have mentioned H1N1 but have not got the test back yet. He is not doing well today and things are looking grim. Please remember him when you pray.
Oh Jessica! This sounds scary. Praying for all involved.
So sorry to hear about this! I will be praying and I'm glad the news seems to be encouraging.
It's so strange...something similar happened to someone in a different department where I work. I don't know him very well, but they keep sending out updates and it's the same issues, the O2 dropping, etc. Now they think he has some strange disease, his lungs have been collapsing and they've had to hook him up the iron lung at Children's. He is also a young guy, just a few years older than I am.

This is the hospital where Gage was taken when he was only a few hours old, and where he has now spent a total of 5 weeks and had 6 surgeries. They are FABULOUS. They serve many teens as well, and a hospital gets boring after a while. They could really use this game room!!! Vote up to 10 times a day!
I guess with the new 3.0 I need something else on my page besides the announcement that my laptop died. It hasn't been dead for a long time. I guess I'll do a bullet post, but most of you know what's been up anyway because I know you IRL or on FB anyway.
*I'm now out of my first trimester of pregnancy. I went to see the specialist last Monday and things look great. We saw a nice intact spine and everything. Still too early to know if it's a boy or girl. It better be a girl or this child's name will be Baby Boy Fincher.
*Gage is recovering nicely from surgery. He had 2 procedures June 22 on his spinal cord. I think I saw some improvement with his first spin in the walker today. His incisions are looking nice. We have a wound check Tuesday and don't expect any issues from that.
*We spent all week at "the lake" with my family this week. We didn't do a whole lot of boating because Tony's boat croaked and my step-dad's will only hold 3 people (there were 7 of us). We did swim some at the dock and I managed to get burned shoulders. I have to say that I'm really "done" with family for now. A week is just too long...
*Tony doesn't get any more vacation for the rest of the year. He had to take leave for Gage's surgery and hospital stay and wants to have about 4 weeks when the new baby gets here.
That's really about it. We have been so consumed with Gage's medical stuff lately that I haven't had the energy to think about much else, including being pregnant. I'm looking forward to enjoying it now.
