Life is Good
Is there a record for the longest average time in between posts? If so, I think I should be in the running. Anyways...
Life is good at the close of my second year of graduate school. Only two more years of classes, 1 year of internship, and 2 years of post-doc. Shouldn't take too long....
Church is going well, moving forward on several fronts..which brings me to my question...
Did God intend for a church to function on a long basis without Elders? It seems to me that both the bible and 1st and 2nd century writings indicate that a Church should be in one of two categories:
1. Having Elders
2. Activiely Developing Elders(Having men who are qualified who will soon be Elders)
Many churches that I have been to and heard about are continuing to function without the leadership God intended.
Thoughts???

I remember wondering if there would ever be a light at the end of the long tunnel we call education- thinking about you and andra! hope you all are doing well. -
Hey there! Great to hear from you. We miss ya'll! My thoughts - I don't think God intended for congregations to function without leadership (as in elders). If not already in place, then working toward that goal. :) -
Me and this other guy named Jeremy boxed at westside (a park near my house), and hes got a pleo too. I just got the names mixed up. -
Hey! No, I haven't been in gville for 11 months now. I'm living in Birmingham. I work at the children's hospital here. Hope you're doing well! =) -
So, weighing in...I believe a congregation functions best with qualified Elders; that being said...one of the biggest mistakes I believe a congregation can do is to appoint men, perhaps not fully developed, in hopes that they can 'grow' into the job. As we know...it's easier to appoint, then they disappoint, then...to remove them from office can cause chaos. Having Elders just for the sake of Elders? I don't think so. Blessed is the congregation with a strong Eldership. -
When new congregations form, it has been my experience that the members almost always make sure they have a preacher before they form the congregation, but they don't make sure they have qualified and eager men to lead. Isn't this backwards?? Why do we place so much emphasis on a preacher, but not on elders? -
grad school...bleh! i'm finally almost done!
