TAGGED??!!

Hmmm...

Those of you who know me already know about my weirdnesses, and those of you who don't know, well, you really don't want to know! But since I've been tagged, I'll play along. The rules: Reveal six weird or odd things or habits about yourself on your blog, and then tag six friends on your blog, and comment on their blogs to let them know.

Here goes, as I reluctantly reveal that which should be left hidden.

1. I talk to my dogs a lot...even though they are deaf.

2. I like to jump out of airplanes at 10,000 feet.

3. I hate long toenails. They feel really yucky against the bedsheets. OOOoooooh, I *hate* them!

4. Today, I was asked if I'd be interested in playing women's professional football. Hmmm, a new career?

5. I like being in medical situations (other peoples' that is). I don't mind taking friends to the doctor or hospital. I don't mind funeral homes, either, when Option A fails.

6. I once dressed a dead person. (This is unrelated to #5. Sort of.)

Well, you asked for it. Um, that's probably not the weirdest stuff I've ever done, but it was difficult to decide what to admit to from the many choices I had.

Who shall I tag?
1. Him/her - I don't know him/her, but he/she sounded a little pathetic, and I felt sorry for him/her
2. 2nd daughter - I just want to see if I can learn anything I don't already know.
3. 1st daughter - She will probably have trouble with this, because she doesn't think she's weird.
4. Weghan - If you need help, just let me know.
5. Him - Hi, Andrew! How weird r u?
6. Boilerchick - Just wondering if she blogs, and if she ever does weird things.
  • hot_tamale
Number 3 isn't that weird! Although I have a slightly different reason for thinking so. Maybe this is revealing a #7 for me, but I have so crooked toes and if my nails get too long, some of them poke the toe next to them. =)

Hello. I checked out your blog because I saw you listed as a tagged person on meditationis's blog. My name is Jenny and I live in Cottontown, Tn. close to Nashville. I was raised the first half of my life in Louisiana/Ark./Texas area; the second half in Tennessee. I have three little boys (you can see their picture under my "room" link); I am a speech/language pathologist in 4 schools. Curious: When and why did you dress a dead body? I actually saw a decapitated cadaver (spelling?) in grad school. I "use" to think I wanted to jump out of airplanes, too, but that changed with age. Where do you live? I know your name is Anita, right?

In answer to your question, I don't know. Being a traditional c of Cer I like our music with good 4 part harmony. I see indications that we are loosing that and I am somewhat disappointed in the training of song leaders. I see them more as "song starters" with little concept of pitch and timing. I was trained by patient brethren including sisters in Christ more knowledgable than I in music. I apprecaited EVERY correction and still do.
    by arsenal at 04/28/07 5:42PM
  • arsenal
That being said, I was once told, "Not everybody looks at singing the same way you do". True. But one thing all songleaders should have, which is also the mark of a Christian, the desire to improve.

Action, Adventure, Drama, and...dare I say it...

Uh, no, I dare not say it. This is a family post.

What am I talking about?

My daily Bible reading, of course. I really am trying harder in 2007!

I am amazed at everything the Bible contains. The rather tawdry stories surprise me the most. And some of the things that God and Moses address just let me know that the tendencies of people haven't changed over the years. I mean, if God felt the need to dispense laws about such things as...well, just read it...let's not even GO there...

I'm just glad that He tempers those kinds of things with stories of beauty and love and the gospel. He allows us a peek at the darker side of this not-so-great life in order that we can appreciate the goodness and light and perfection of life in Him.

And, always, those bad things are a result of poor choices by people. We have the option of doing the right thing, and the option of the opposite, both with consequences all their own. Sometimes the right thing hurts temporarily, but the wrong choice always hurts, usually in the short term, but always in the long-term.

I'm grateful that God has revealed so much to us. We really have no excuse for making poor decisions, with such a complete Life Owner's Manual available.

--------------------------

I want to share an e-mail I received from a sister at Avon whose sister-in-law and family are living in Brazil, South America.

She writes:

I received a letter from Monica today talking about a Christian in Sao Paulo who is asking for prayers so that he can learn to read. Here are Monica's words:

There is a higher illiteracy rate here than we are accustomed in the States. Recently, one Christian man, Selio, whom we worship with regularly has asked another Christian to help him learn to read SO THAT he can do more to encourage his brothers and sisters. He wants to be able to read in bible class and do other things. He is inspired to do this by another man, Jose, who now reads and prepares lessons. This man could not read at all a few years ago when he became a Christian. I was moved by this because Selio is asking prayers so that the Lord may help him to serve Him in more ways. That was his prayer request. I thought about how much work this will require for Selio. But he has a heart that desires to be more useful to the Lord. How encouraging!

THought this would be a great person to put on all our list to pray daily. We don't realize how lucky we are sometimes.

-------------------

OK, me again: Do you sometimes take the opportunity to READ your Bible every day for granted? I know I do. What a great gift we have! First, we have Bibles--I can't even tell you how many Bibles are in my house! People in Russia and China, and many other places in the world, are prohibited from owning Bibles, and do so under the threat of incarceration or death. And second, we have the freedom and opportunity to learn to read. I know that most of us take that for granted, but we really should thank our God every day for allowing us to live where and when we do.

This is a gift beyond understanding, that each one of us can hold the key to the universe in our hands, and unlock all the mysteries God is willing to share with us simply by opening a book. What an awesome God He is! It both humbles and elevates me to think of His love that He would allow me this privilege.

Read any Good Books lately?

How's everyone doing on their Daily Bible Reading? I've been a slacker this week, but am gearing up for some marathon reading.

I mentioned previously that my reading schedule includes some OT, NT and occasionally a Psalm each day. I am finding it better to read several days' worth of one or the other at a time. I appreciate the continuity of doing that. Makes the reading more enjoyable, and maybe more comprehensable as well, since the context becomes clearer over many verses/chapters.

I commented to someone that they need to come up with a daily reading schedule that starts somewhere besides Genesis. Maybe do the OT backwards or something. It's hard telling how many times I've read Genesis, and by the time the schedule calls for the minor prophets...well, I have a problem with sticking to things, I guess.

One thing I've been noticing is the grace with which people die in the Bible. "I am soon to be gathered with my people...", "I am about to go the way of all men..." etc. Maybe the trepidation and outright fear that we sometimes see in today's world was really there, but God chose to show us a more graceful side of it.

Another thing I love about Old Testament characters (well, most Bible characters) is their courage. Wow, how courageous those people were! It's interesting to note that in Revelation 21:8, the cowardly are included with a host of other sinners. It's certainly something to consider--I wonder if we are sometimes guilty of this sin when we don't stand for the truth and don't speak up in defense of it. Have you ever considered being afraid to be a sin? But I suppose it indicates a lack of faith in God.

I love how God reassures Joshua to be strong and courageous, because God is with him. I don't know how many times the book of Joshua records the phrase "be strong and courageous", but every time I read it, it gives me more confidence.

---------------------

Today (January 31) is her birthday! If you don't know this special, talented, terrific woman, you are really missing out! I love her very much.

---------------------

Anyone remember one of my first posts? You won't be able to find it now, because I decided at one point to wipe out my entire blog--how fun! But it heralded National Clean Your Keyboard Day. Well, I don't know if today's is the anniversary of that or not, but it's time! Pick up your keyboard, turn it over, and gently shake all of those Dorito shards and cinnamon toast crumbs out. If you are a munchy-blogger like I am, you may need to blow into the crevices to get all that junk out. WARNING: Do NOT blow if you are currently munching--that will create small blobs of Cheeto concrete between your keys! And I don't know what will happen if you're drinking root beer at the same time. It won't be pretty.

---------------------

My living room was icy pale blue two days ago. Now? It's a deep, rich, warm RED! Ahhh, that's better! Paint is a great invention. Wallpaper came from a sick mind.

---------------------

And the last words: GO COLTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • cyber_space_cadet
I loved this whole entry. But, I *must* admit, the whole National Clean Your Keyboard Day thing had me rolling. Especially the "do not blow if you are currently munching." HAHAHA. Anyway, as long as I have no cheeto concrete on my keyboard, I'll stick to using compressed air (for anything that won't come out when I turn the keyboard over).

I dislike wallpaper with a passion. There were something like seven layers in my kitchen when we moved in here. Most of the rooms only had three layers. *What* are people THINKING when they do that stuff? (I know...."Who cares? Let *her* deal with it!") Anyway, the red sounds terrific. Can't wait to see. :)
