Weekend wrap up...

So our little bad news bears volleyball team took off to College Station. Actually we are not a bad team as much as we are a little team. We probably do have the shortest team on record at the Tour of Texas. Our Middles are 5'10 with their shoes on, i have one hitter at 5'9, 2 at 5'8 and one at 5'6. But overcoming all of that(which in volleyball height is a big deal) we did qualify for the Tour to be counted as one of the top 24 teams around so we have to be doing something right.

Friday night i drive up to CS, the club has a nice room for me at the Quality Suites off Rock Prarie. Brand spanking new place, I should have done a Hotel review for Dan & Summer...the room really was perfect. My roommate showed up around 11:30 and then we crashed...shortly after midnight i remembered why i was so tired the next day after rooming with the same guy in Dallas. Oh yes...he snores...and snores...and then snores some more, but i digress.

Got up a little before 6 got showered up and ready to head out. packed up the car, stopped by good ole mickey D's for some breakfast. I got some spicy chicken bisquet thing that was really good...yummy. Now the hotel was about 6-7 mins from the Read Bldg which as you Aggies know is on the backside of Kyle Field. welllll let me tell you it was foggy that morning. driving along i had to stop at every block to read the sign before making any turns...coming up Wellborn i could not see the stadium there was so much fog...i was that bad...again for those of you that arent Aggies you can see the stadium from every where...when you're lost in CS you look for the stadium. turned up Joe Routt turned up Houston and parked on the back side. The parking lot had lots of cars already at 6:40 in the morning, i could see lots of very sleepy girls dragging along through the parking lot towards the building. i grab all my stuff...ball bag..cart...backpack...camera head towards the enterance and parked in the front row i notice a familar car. yep...its my captains black Yukon. the windows are down and the radio is blasting Miley Cyrus and 4 of my girls are singing at the top of their lungs rocking out to the radio...obviously it wasnt to early in the morning for us.

Moving along, after dragging all that stuff up 3 flights of stairs. you would think i would have an assistant coach or manager to carry all this but nope the head coach is a pack mule. find our court amongst the maze of courts spread out all over the place...and if you ever have been up there it is a maze of courts. we were early so i got them going with a little pepper, the only problem was i was missing one of my Right Side's...it was 7:35 now and i was getting a little concerned. our schedule was to Ref at 8..play at 9..off...play at 11..ref at 12...play at 1...then depending on how we placed we would either play at 2 or play at 3. so a total of 4 matches and then we would be done for the first Tour stop.

finally my RS shows up a little after 7:40...of course she was lost in the fog.

to expedite the boring details of play i will give you the box scores real quick along with highlights.
WB White vs Texas Tornados Black 2-0 (25-21,25-22)
WB White vs Alamo Gold 2-1 (22-25,25-21,18-16)
WB White vs Texas Elite Gold 2-0 (25-20,25-20)
WB White vs AJV Red 2-0 (25-16,25-9)

so yep...we won our pool taking first place 3-0, we had the second highest point ratio at 126%, we had the highest set win % out of the entire 24 team field (basically we were the only team to go 8-1, there was one other team that had 8 wins but they lost 2 sets) we also were 1 of 3 teams to be perfect in match play at 4-0 for the day. Aaannd...we made another nice little come back against Alamo, notice that 3rd set going into extra points...the score was 9-14 and we were behind...in a brillant coaching move, timeout is called, i had a little talk with the troops and then we proceed to go on a 9-2 point run holding off match point and eventually coming out on top.

so all of that means that we will move up to Silver Division next in San Antonio in 2 weeks. Oh yea...the 24 teams were broken into 3 parts....top 8 seeds Gold division and they play each other in pool play at each stop...Silver 9-16 seeds...and Bronze 17-24 seeds. entering the first stop we were seeded 20th, but after winning our pool and crossover match we move up to Silver now. So now my short little team has to block and hit against front lines averaging all over 6'1 and if you don't believe that 15 yr old girls grow to 6'1 and taller i invite you all to UTSA in 2 weeks

ok..thats enough of that. no more talk of volleyball for 2 weeks
